Forums - Sales Discussion - PlayStation Game Revenues Leak

A leaked presentation from the insomniac hack has through some calculations revealed the revenue of some games on PlayStation platforms up until October 15th 2022. The person I saw use this presentation to calculate revenue only looked at Genshin Impact but I have expanded it to calculate all revenues. Due to it being rounded to the nearest % titles with a very low value (multi-versus 2%) have a wide marging for error, so I have included the minimum and maximum possible revenue after my estimate. The explanation of how the numbers are calculated will be at the bottom of this post.

Explanation of method

The first image tells us the revenues of MLB The Show 21/22 and the bottom image includes both of those games as a percentage. Using these figures we can determine what 100% would be and thus what the revenues of all these other games must be on PlayStation. These figures are rounded however so there cannot be complete accuracy. But using the minimum possible unrounded revenue and percentage and the maximum possible unrounded revenue and percentage we can get a range that 100% Normalized LTD Revenue must be in.

MLB The Show 21
$181.6 Million = 26% Normalized LTD Revenue (Rounded)
If 26.49% of Normalized LTD Revenue (maximum unrounded percentage) equals $181.649 Million (maximum unrounded revenue) then 100% of Normalized LTD Revenue is $685.72 Million
If 25.50% of Noramlized LTD Revenue (minimum unrounded percentage) equals $181.550 Million (minimum unrounded revenue) then 100% of Normalized LTD Revenue is $711.96 Million
100% Normalized LTD Revenue must be between $685.72 Million and $711.96 Million based on MLB The Show 21 figures given.

MLB The Show 22
$143.3 Million = 20% Normalized LTD Revenue (Rounded)
If 20.49% of Normalized LTD Revenue (maximum unrounded percentage) equals $143.349 Million (maximum unrounded revenue) then 100% of Normalized LTD Revenue is $699.60 Million
If 19.50% of Noramlized LTD Revenue (minimum unrounded percentage) equals $143.250 Million (minimum unrounded revenue) then 100% of Normalized LTD Revenue is $734.62 Million
100% Normalized LTD Revenue must be between $699.60 Million and $734.62 Million based on MLB The Show 22 figures given.

Combining the ranges we got we can deduce that 100% Normalized LTD Revenue must be between $699.60 Million and $711.96 Million. So now we can easily get the minimum and maximum possible revenue of all titles in the list. By using the following formula.

Minimum Possible Revenue = (699.60 / 100)* Minimum Unrounded Percentage
Maximum Possible Revenue = (711.96 / 100)* Maximum Unrounded Percentage

GTA V calculations for example:
($699.60 Million / 100) * 530.5 = $3.711 Billion
($711.96 Million / 100) * 531.49 = $3.784 Billion

FFXIV seems too low to be correct, even when the expansions aren't accounted for.

It is surprisingly low but it appears the subscription is not sold through the PlayStation store? The basic version of FFXIV is only £11.99 on Playstation also. As an mmorpg It's probably just vastly more popular on PC than Console.

The majority of players are on PC and through Square Enix's site.

If you look at the Steam numbers for Final Fantasy XIV -the numbers would be low too.

I think something about there being incentives if you pay through Square Enix's site or something like that.

I don’t know why I’m surprised to see Uncharted 4 above God of War and The Last of Us Part II.

I’m still seeing people saying that first party PS games don’t make profit.

Wonder how GTA 6 will compare on the chartz.

Yeah I have it on PC (finished Shadowbringers) and subscribed using the SE website, I imagine it's the same on Playstation for the low numbers to make sense. As Zippy mentioned, the base game is dirt cheap (and free with the exansions iirc) and obviously the expansions aren't included here.

I'm interested in trying out FFXIV (on PC at least) - especially since the first two expansions are free.

Just got too many games I plan to play and dont want to invest time on a MMO lol

I didn't know that Rainbow Six Siege was so big.
