‘Hundred days of genocide in Gaza is lifetime of pain’: Palestinian foreign ministry

The Palestinian foreign ministry has said in a statement that “the international community is, once again, failing implement international resolutions related to the Palestinian cause”.

It also said that 100 days have passed “and the Israeli occupation has turned Gaza into an uninhabitable place, committed horrific crimes, and forcibly displaced approximately 2 million people”.

“Hundred days have passed and some countries are still unconvinced that the occupation’s massacres have eroded Israel’s ‘defence’ argument. These countries need to reassess their support for the war,” the ministry said.

Tally of Palestinians detained in occupied West Bank climbs to 5,835 since Oct. 7

In their annual report, the prisoner affairs institutions indicated that the total number of Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons as of the end of December 2023 had reached roughly 8,800, including more than 80 female prisoners.

Since the outbreak of the Israeli onslaught on Gaza on Oct. 7, the Israeli army has intensified its military operations in the West Bank, increasing the pace of invasions and raids on cities, towns, and refugee camps, resulting in 347 fatalities as of Saturday.

Meanwhile, the war's destruction on Gaza until Saturday left 23,843 deaths, 60,317 injuries, massive destruction of infrastructure and an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe, according to the authorities in the enclave and the United Nations.

‘Kids begging for sip of water or loaf of bread’ in Gaza: UNRWA chief

The hunger and desperations is happening “despite all the warnings we gave about this tragedy”, the chief of the UN’s refugee agency tells Al Jazeera, describing the state of Palestinian children inside UNRWA-run shelters and schools.

“Whenever you go to a school, the kids are looking at your eyes begging for a sip of water of a loaf of bread,” said Philippe Lazzarini.

“This 100 days feels to be an eternity. But despite all the adversity, I find our staff very motivated, heroic and committed to provide assistance,” he added, asking for more aid trucks to be allowed into the besieged Gaza Strip.

CNN literally runs their stories past the IDF. Every time I think they can't sink any further, they lower the bar. They'd be great at limbo.

‘Civilian population in Gaza have suffered enough’: Red Cross chief

International Federation of the Red Cross Secretary-General Jagan Chapagain has made the latest appeal for humanitarian reprieve for the people of Gaza.

In Gaza, the health care system is on the brink of collapse. In any conflict or crisis, access to health care is a question of life or death,” he posted on X. “Civilian population in Gaza have suffered enough, and healthcare is one of the last remaining beacons of hope. It’s a humanitarian and moral imperative to ensure the people of Gaza can access health care,” he wrote.

The United Nations has said Israeli denials of access for humanitarian missions have increased since the beginning of the year. Only about 21 percent of planned humanitarian deliveries to northern Gaza have reached their destinations in the first weeks of the year.

‘Everything must be done’ to end Gaza fighting: WHO chief

In an impassioned appeal marking 100 days of war in Gaza, WHO chief Tedros decried “over 300 attacks on health and continuous lack of safe access to critical aid” in the enclave. He noted that only 15 hospitals remain operational but are only able to provide limited services.

Meanwhile, humanitarian workers are “repeatedly stymied from providing the aid so critically needed”. “People in Gaza are living in hell. Nowhere is safe. 100 days, and counting, of incessant insecurity and fear is beyond words,” he wrote on X. “Everything must be done to end the violence to prevent more needless death and injury.”

Hamas releases video of captives in Gaza

The video showed three captives appealing to their government to stop the offensive. “Tomorrow, we will inform you of their fate,” the video said, without giving further details. The latest video comes shortly after a Hamas official said the group had lost contact with some captives amid Israel’s bombardment.

‘Fate of many captives unknown’: More from Abu Obeida

The spokesman for Hamas’s Qassam Brigades says the fate of many of the Israeli captives has become “unknown in recent weeks”. “A lot of them have most likely been killed because of the Israeli bombardment,” Abu Obeida said. “The rest are in danger and the enemy bears responsibility for their fate,” he added.

Israeli war cabinet member says time to stop ‘lying to ourselves’: Report

Israel’s Channel 12 as well as other Israeli media outlets have reported that Gadi Eisenkot told the rest of the war cabinet it was time for Israel to change tack in its efforts to secure the release of the remaining captives held in Gaza.

“We have to stop lying to ourselves, to show courage, and to lead to a large deal that will bring home the hostages,” Eisenkot, whose son and nephew died fighting in Gaza, said. “Your time is running out and each day that passes endangers their lives.”

Netanyahu and Defence Minister Gallant disagreed, however, saying that only “military pressure” would bring back the captives.

Biden says still working to negotiate captive release

In a statement marking 100 days of war in Gaza, Biden said it is a “devastating and tragic milestone” for those still held captive in Gaza. He said the US will continue to try to negotiate their release, even as talks have stalled since a seven-day pause in fighting last week. Earlier today, Hamas said it had lost contact with several captives amid the ongoing bombardment.

“I will never forget the grief and the suffering I have heard in my meetings with the families of the American hostages. No one should have to endure even one day of what they have gone through, much less 100,” Biden said in a statement, which did not mention the nearly 24,000 Palestinians killed in Gaza. “On this terrible day, I again reaffirm my pledge to all the hostages and their families – we are with you. We will never stop working to bring Americans home,” he said.

US ‘will not rest’ until remaining hostages freed: Blinken

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has joined calls for the release of the remaining captives held in Gaza on the 100th day since they were taken by Hamas. “100 days of captivity in Gaza is far too long,” Blinken said in a post on X. “The United States will not rest until all remaining hostages, including six Americans, are reunited with their loved ones,” he added.

At this point it's pretty much clear that the hostages are just used as an excuse to keep the destruction going. It's also Israel's main 'defense' for the genocide case at the ICJ. Military pressure hasn't worked, it only got more hostages killed, a ceasefire has worked. I don't believe Netanyahu is really interested in freeing the hostages, apart from that he desperately needs a 'win'. Blaming Hamas of hiding behind civilians while Netanyahu and Biden are hiding behind the hostages to keep the genocidal war going.

Further escalation in the Westbank

Night of deadly raids, arrests across West Bank

It’s a night of heavy violence across the occupied West Bank, as five Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces on Sunday. The deaths include two teenagers in el-Bireh near Ramallah – where Israeli forces opened fire on an ambulance – two men in Sair, north of Hebron, and a 16-year-old in the Ein Al-Sultan refugee camp north of Jericho.

There are also ongoing major raids in the city of Qalqilya, where Israeli forces accompanied by a bulldozer have demolished a home in the Khallet Yassin area and shot a man. Raids and arrests have been reported in the following locations in the occupied West Bank so far tonight:

  • In the city of Al-Dhahiriya, south of Hebron
  • The Ein al-Sultan refugee camp, north of Jericho
  • The city of Yatta, south of Hebron
  • The town of Beit Rima, northwest of Ramallah
  • In the town of Beit Ummar, north of Hebron
  • The town of Hajjah, east of Qalqilya
  • Israeli forces arrested a man and his son in the village of Beitin, northeast of Ramallah
  • Israeli settlers burned a Palestinian vehicle in the village of Burin, south of Nablus

Meanwhile Gaza is still in another communications blackout

Two Palestinians killed trying to restore Gaza internet service: Communications monitor

The NetBlocks observatory says the more than 48-hour outage has left “most residents cut off” as the war in the enclave passes the 100-day mark. The monitor added that operator Paltel has said that two of its repair crews have been killed while trying to restore service.

Israeli strikes continue across Gaza

Not only are people reflecting on 100 days, but they’re also experiencing renewed air strikes across the territory, even in the northern part, where there are attacks on Beit Lahiya and attacks on the southern part of Gaza City, with the Israeli military demolishing more than 10 residential homes.

As we speak, there are more air strikes and artillery concentrated in the central area [of the Gaza Strip], where the remaining health facility has been attacked repeatedly, as well as an evacuation centre. Distressing reports are also coming from the southern part of the city of Khan Younis, which has been repeatedly targeted with intense shelling and air strikes.

There are reports about an entire residential block that was attacked and destroyed by relentless air strikes. We’re trying to get a confirmation on the number of people who have been killed. We were told by a civil defence crew and an ambulance that they were finding it very difficult to get to the area as it was under heavy artillery shelling.

Anti-war protests at UK base in Cyprus

About 300 anti-war demonstrators protested outside the Royal Air Force base in Akrotiri after the United Kingdom joined recent United States-led strikes on Houthi positions in Yemen. The base was used as a staging point for Typhoon fighter jets involved in the operation, according to the Reuters news agency.

The march, which started outside Britain’s Akrotiri military base, was organised by the Cyprus Peace Council and supported by the leftist opposition party AKEL and the activist group United For Palestine

Qatar, they have been doing all the negotiations and made the 7 day ceasefire possible.

Qatar negotiated a recent deal to get medicine to the hostages and by request of Hamas also to hospitals in Gaza

Negotiators strike deal to deliver medication to hostages held by Hamas

Negotiators have struck a deal that will allow medicine to be delivered to more than 40 hostages held in Gaza, an official familiar with the discussions said. Some logistical issues still need to be resolved, but the expectation is that Qatar will soon make a shipment to Egypt, which will then hand it over to the Ministry of Health in Gaza via Rafah crossing. The ministry will then figure out how to get it to the hostages through Hamas.

The Red Cross is not expected to play a role, as it has in other hostage deals in Gaza. There have been some delays to providing the medication to the hostages, including that Doha is waiting for medicine to arrive from another unnamed country before it can ship it into Gaza, according to the official.

Hamas only agreed to the deal if more medicine was sent for hospitals and Palestinians in Gaza, the official said. Originally, the request asked Hamas to allow the Red Cross to visit the more than 40 hostages Israel believes are in need of medical treatment or medicine. But Hamas refused to let the Red Cross visit the hostages, according to the official.

And Egypt keeping the border open, facilitating aid deliveries and taking in patients from Gaza, working against Israel's delay tactics

Egypt blames Israel’s ‘stubbornness’ for blocking aid through Rafah

The lack of aid entering Gaza through Rafah and other border crossings has been solely caused by Israel, according to Diaa Rashwan, the chairman of Egypt’s State Information Service (SIS).

“Throughout these 100 days, has been the stubbornness and intentionality of the occupying Israeli authorities, at other Gaza Strip crossings, delaying the inspection of aid before allowing its passage to the Palestinian side, by virtue of its military control over the territory of the Gaza Strip,” he was quoted as saying in an SIS post on Facebook.

Rashwan added that the Rafah crossing hadn’t been closed “for a single moment” on the Egyptian side, while Israeli authorities deliberately disrupted or delayed the entry of aid “under the pretext of inspecting it”.

They have their own agendas.

Hezbollah has an ongoing 'dispute' with Israel over the Golan Heights and the Shebaa farms which Israel invaded in the past

In 1978 Israel invaded and occupied Southern Lebanon, and in 1981, the Golan Heights, including the Shebaa Farms, were annexed by Israel, a move only recognized by the United States.[2] Israel considers it part of the Golan Heights continues to hold it, along with the Golan, under military occupation.[3]

The houthis have been fighting over control of Yemen (or liberation of Yemen as they call it) for decades and have seized this opportunity to expand their influence.

With the current support and attacks the Houthis may expand their support base across Yemen and the Arab world. Additionally, it is believed the group is hoping to sabotage the Saudi normalization with Israel, which had been in the works.

Saudi Arabia and UAE have been the opposition to the Houthis. It has been a long bloody conflict, civil war in Yemen influenced by the long standing proxy war in the Iran - Saudi Arabia conflict over influence over the Middle East.

I don't think what they're doing is effective in helping Gaza. It's more fuel for distractions from the ongoing genocide, gives more legitimacy to Israel to keep the war cabinet going, and gives the US-UK an opportunity to (mis)direct the issues to Red Sea shipping. Also gives the US an excuse to focus on containing the conflict rather than having to deal with what goes on in Gaza and the West Bank. Israel is US' pawn in the Middle East to keep control of the area. The more regional instability the more the US will stick with Israel.

Every day it gets worse. People in the West Bank are starting to rise up, risk of a third Intifada is increasing

1 dead and at least 12 injured in twin attacks in central Israel, authorities say

The Israeli Police said Monday that one person was killed and 12 injured in twin ramming attacks in the central Israeli city of Raanana. Avi Bitton, the chief of the central police district said in a televised statement that two suspects from Hebron have been detained. Bitton said the two suspects carried out simultaneous attacks in two vehicles.

That's all CNN is saying about the conflict today next to mentioning the released hostage video, asking the government to stop the war, with the statement "It is not clear whether the hostages were speaking under duress. The video is about 30 seconds long." added by the IDF censor no doubt since "The Israeli government has not commented on the video. Previously, it called the practice of releasing hostage videos “psychological warfare.
