Results are out. The highest hardware revenue ever for Sony in one month in the USA.

#1 - PlayStation, #2 - Switch, #3 - Xbox

PlayStation and Xbox both have higher hardware revenue than last year, Switch declined in "double digits".

Does this mean Xbox sell more consoles than last year due to the discounts on both models?

Revenue alone wouldn't have been enough to know as sales are skewed heavier towards Series X in 2023 than 2022. However Mat has since confirmed the Xbox is up over 10% in units.

All 3 consoles are over 1 million for the month BTW.

Given VGC's 2022 numbers, we have PS5 >1.464m, Switch >1.036m and <1.249m, Xbox >1.036m. I suppose the latter two must have been rather close in sales.

So PS5 not too far from PS4's 2016 numbers (1.540m), but Xbox Series still lagging a lot behind Xbox One which sold 1.519m in the USA in December 2016.

The actuals can be further constrained by the growth in revenue (~4%) so I'd guess there are more than 3.7m consoles sold in total given the promotions and all.

Mat didn't say anything about PS5 beating the best PS4 figure, so I am thinking PS5 ended up around 1.5M. I am still working on the estimates, but should have them out later today. Xbox Series X|S right now I have a hair over 1.1M, and of course Switch between the two. I am glad we at least have a minimum of what each console sold.

Xbox Series X|S had its best-selling December in the US to date. And PS5 also had its best December yet. PS5 and XS unit sales up by digit percentages, while Switch is down by double digit percentages.

Great for Xbox, and considering double digits (and seems like also up dollar wise it was very healthy increase). Now we are to see how it will do 2024, and unfortunately for the other markets even the big discounts in December made little to year total.

The most the PS4 ever outsold the XBO by in the USA was 23% in 2017.

This year the PS5 sold 74% more units than the Xbox Series in the USA. That's the biggest gap between the two companies since the PS2 days. It's also bigger than any advantage the X360 ever had over the PS3 in USA annual sales.
