my favorite game of this decade it's shadow of the collosus, but being fair, in my opinion, the winner should be half life 2 for all the innovation in physics with the source engine, motion capture never seen before, in addition to continuing the achievement of hl1 by bringing a more complex narrative to the fps genre, a really revolutionary. But on this site I bet on Mario winning the poll

Mario Galaxy is getting competition from Metroid Prime, Twilight Princess and SMBB. Winning 4 polls is now a detriment ;)

It's all pretty even so far, 5 games in the running for 1st.

Shadow of the Colossus and ICO are both in my top 5 games of all time. ICO deserves the remake treatment SotC got :)

But yeah HL2 deserves it for all the advancements it made. It's so good and ahead of its time Valve still hasn't dared to make HL3. Too much pressure to create the same jump from HL to HL2 to HL3.

A relatively easy win for Half-Life 2, it seems, since my biggest favourites of the decade, and in fact ever, were left out. Uncharted 2 is the only competition, but ultimately it's Half-Life 2 I have recurring interest in playing again and not Uncharted 2, and it's the more influential game too. Halo is even more influential for sure, but despite three or so attempts to start it, it's one of the few games I just haven't been able to get into at all. I couldn't in good conscience possibly vote for it unless specifically asked for an influential game.

My order of preference for these 10 games today:

1. Metroid Prime
2. Half-Life 2
3. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
4. Super Mario Galaxy
5. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
6. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
7. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

...and that's it because I've never played the other three games people chose.

My actual top 10 favorites from the 2000s:

1. Metroid Prime
2. Portal
3. Beyond Good & Evil
4. Okami
5. Half-Life 2
6. Yume Nikki
7. Valkyria Chronicles
8. Shadow of the Colossus
9. Psychonauts
10. Chibi-Robo!

Most culturally impactful games, IMO, by decade:

1970s: Space Invaders
1980s: Super Mario Bros.
1990s: Doom
2000s: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

My favorite games by decade:

1970s: Zork
1980s: The Guardian Legend
1990s: Super Metroid
2000s: Metroid Prime

Super Mario Galaxy gets my vote.

Since I've only played KOTOR and Halo and didn't greatly appreciate the first, Halo it is.

SM Galaxy for me of that list. The innovation of the control scheme just worked wonders and truely sold having a Wii as what the industry needed at the time.

Hmm, pie.

Growing up with a Gamecube, Metroid Prime was my favorite game for a very long time. It was only surpassed by SotC when I played it much later, but unfortunately it didn’t win 2005 GotY

I make game analyses on youtube:

I grew up with a Gamecube, so Metroid Prime was my favorite game ever for quite a while.

I’m more of an RPG and sandbox simulation fan, so most of these games aren’t to my tastes. Two of them (Halo and Uncharted 2) I’ve never played, but I think both games look interesting.

Of the eight games I’ve played, Super Mario Galaxy is an easy win for me. Resident Evil 4, specifically the Wii version, is a solid runner up. I also wanted to mention Smash Bros Brawl: outside of the novelty of the original N64 game, the Subspace Emissary mode is my favourite thing ever done in the Smash series - Sonic versus Mario is my third favourite thing (and second would be Link vs Cloud, but that’s another game).

Dwarf Fortress is probably my favourite game of the decade, and I still play it to this day. If I remember correctly, runner ups would be Skies of Arcadia for Dreamcast and Dragon Quest 9 for DS. I also wanted to mention Xenosaga Episode 1, a poorly handled publishing, but overall a great game from Monolithsoft, I wish they got to fulfil the original plan and had more creative control after the first game.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
