Bragging about it running games better than a console that launched in 2013 is not exactly breaking free from the Wii-U era. Actually, it's right on par.

It's significantly better than a PS4 which was a home console that plugs into like 100 watts of electricity, it's looking better than a Steam Deck.

It looks very much worth it's $450 price point considering it has a bigger, higher resolution screen than the $399.99 Steam Deck and more storage than the $399.99 Deck, on top of magnetic controllers that can detach and function like a mouse and a TV dock that has active cooling.

This ain't the fucking Wii U era anymore, Nintendo is making solid hardware again. Things like Street Fighter VI look better than a XBox Series S, even the "fixed" version.

This thing is going to be able to run a decent version of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (the PS5 exclusive one) from the looks of things. To be able to play that scale of a game on a Nintendo portable is going to be outstanding.

The Xbox Series S is a bargain console that can't run games properly and was released almost half a decade ago. The Switch 2 is Nintendo's brand new console that isn't even out yet. So, imo, if a person is comparing the S2 to that system, or the PS4, or the PS4 Pro... I just don't see how it's any different from what they've been doing since the Wii. Compared to the best of what Sony and Microsoft have to offer, the hardware is woefully under powered.

The fact that non-Nintendo fans (not just here, all over the internet) resort to comparing Switch 2 to home consoles to be able to talk it down shows you the Switch 2 is in a great position.

There's no large value difference between Switch 2 and a PS5 in terms of graphics: Games on Switch 2 look good enough and basically every game can run on it. Resorting to comparisons to home consoles just shows desperation.

Lots of praise for how good Cyberpunk 2077 looks on the Switch 2, better than Steam Deck and PS4 from a build that's only 7 weeks old and apparently doesn't even have DLSS implemented yet.

Becoming more and more obvious this ain't the freaking Wii-DS-Wii U-3DS era Nintendo anymore like some people were so desperate to cling to. This is actually a fairly decent piece of kit.

Not really. Wii U was a console. This is a handheld. It's a PS4 Plus with new tricks up its sleeve to run games. PS4 could do better and have higher resolutions. Wii U was a console in 2012 using a CPU from 2000 and a GPU from 2008.  Switch 2 chipset is more modern than PS5/SX just a mobile chipset.

The difference from "what they've been doing since the Wii" is that it takes less than 7 weeks to port modern, non-redeveloped versions, of the same games that are found on other platforms.

Compare the different versions of Cyberpunk 2077 (and yes, it released five years ago, but has gotten consistent graphical updates since, is still one of the most demanding titles on PS5/XBX, and the Switch 2 version is the current one) to say The Witcher 3 Switch (versus PS4/XBO) or Call of Duty Modern Warfare Reflex Edition(vs. 360/PS3.)

The fact that a game like Star Wars Outlaws is coming to the Switch 2 would be akin to Bioshock coming to the Wii without being redeveloped.

Part of this is diminishing returns and scaleable middleware, part of it is that the Series S and a long period of cross-generation titles lowered the floor for current generation releases, but another part is Nintendo actually put decent hardware in the Switch 2.

When we have to start counting pixels and frame-rates to notice the difference then we are really splitting hairs given that the majority of gamers are non-enthusiasts who barely notice these things.

And we're talking about a console that is sipping five - ten times less power than its peer systems.

But some will try to convice that is an unbiased perspective

What is even more funny are some random posts that are comparing ONLY with PS4 just to play the narrative "Oh look, Nintendo took X years to match last gen" like the unbiased guy in this same page. As if PS5 visuals are in some unreachable territory, leagues above and putting everything below on shame.

They just try tooo hard

Interesting comparison. Sometimes the faces feel like they look sharper on Switch 2, but overall with background and texture you can see they are less refined on Switch 2.

Before they ran the side by side and slow mo comparison and just played each footage one after another they did feel very similar. So a good effort on Switch 2 that many won't even care there is a difference.

I watched this in 4k, and at no point did the Switch 2 version look better.
Its clearly running higher resolution and texture quality on the PS5.

But yes this is acceptable, from the differnces in power between the two.
Like this is still a good port.

Acceptable? That's just adorable. You need to watch side by side to notice any difference and even then it's extremely minor. That's how far we are into diminishing returns. The Switch 2 is 40-50% as powerful as a ps5 yet there's only a minor difference. In the past, there would be a world of a difference between a console and another 2-2.5x more powerful.

It is what it is and also what the mass market will see. People will see the Switch 2 running the same games as the ps5 and xsx, being cheaper, having the huge benefit of portability on top of being a home console.

Wow, what a unique point your making. Oh wait, it's been made a billion times already.

You yourself stated earlier that you prioritise ease of use & centralisation over performance, yet you seem incapable of grasping that others prioritise Nintendo 1st party software & hybrid functionality...

What's the point in retreading this same discussion ad nauseum? Do you think anyone on this forum is unaware that S2 is not on par with PS5? We get it, you prefer PlayStation, that's fine.

Using AI to search for information is not abdicating critical thinking.

I can't count how many times I saw AI telling me that ___ was true via a search and it wasn't. Right now, AI is impressive but still kind of stupid. Definitely not something you should stake your name on.

Ffs, you're the 2nd person to wag their finger at me for using ChatGPT.

Guess what, traditional Google search isn't exactly 100% either, should we all abandon that as well? There was plenty of misinfo on the web before AI came along.

Either one of you plz point out what incorrect info it surfaced that undermines or negates the point I was making or move on.

This is massively different from the Wii ... the Wii wasn't able to run actual real 360/PS3 games, just completely retooled versions of those games. But even Wii is not the proper comparable imagine a PSP or DS being able to run the modern console games of its time, that the Switch 2 can do this as as portable device is unreal.

The Switch 2 will be able to run recognizable versions of PS5 games and is already doing without much fuss.

The hybrid form factor in general IMO is the future of the console business ... big fat consoles that sit under the television are going to lose to hybrids + PCs (which includes laptops). Things are changing.
