Anybody try out the 120 fps mode for Prime 4? I ask because I still find the difference between 60 fps and 120 fps to be mind blowing. I was switching between the modes and the difference still astonishes me, I fully understand not everyone sees/agrees with the benefit of 120 fps, so looking for what people think.

I most notice the difference in mouse-mode. The game is actually great fun when played on a 13.3 inch portable OLED @120fps. Since the screen is small, 1080p vs. 1440p isn't very noticeable.

When I played it with motion controls on the large television/monitor I preferred 1440p 60fps for the image quality though.

I played Prime 4 on Switch 1, but I have tried out 120fps before on PC.

It is noticeably smoother to me, but I worry that if I play too much at 120fps I would lose my ability to enjoy 30/60fps.

I have found that last statement to be extremely true.  I just can't do 30 fps anymore, hurts my eyes.  60 fps works on everything but first-person view, but for first person I can't adjust to anything less than 120 fps.  I am sure if I forced it, I could relearn easily enough.

I really like/appreciate Nintendo pushing 60 fps, for their games, as a standard on the S2 versus pushing the graphics further.

I am gaming on a 65 inch OLED, I opted to stick with 1080p/120 fps for Prime 4.  The image difference between 1080p and 1440p seem fairly minor, basically a bit more jaggies at 1080p.  Essentially, I found the jump in fps to be more meaningful than the resolution bump.

I kind of wish MK World had a 1080p/120fps mode.

Unfortunately the full benefits of 120fps is ruined on the Switch 2 due to the poor LCD panel, it just can't switch the pixels fast enough to truly keep up.

...But if you have a decent 120fps TV/Monitor it can look and feel great.

I have been gaming on 144hz for many many years now on PC... And have no dramas going back to 30fps on a console, it just depends on the -type- of game, if it's slower open world game (I.E. Skyrim, Hogwarts etc') that doesn't require twitch movement then it's fine... I am more invested in the story and art/visuals than fighting the controls.

But something like Overwatch, Call of Duty, Doom etc' I just can't play on console anymore.

Fortunately I'm exclusively a home gamer with a 65 inch oled, I couldn't care less about the switch 2 and it's panel quality.

In an interesting case, Layers of Fear on Switch 2 is running with Lumen Ray Tracing, at 60fps

Now, there are significant caveats; it's a trimmed back version of Lumen, and the game is also running at a low native resolution with some of the transparent elements cut back or removed.

Still, this is the first time we have seen Lumen up and running on the hardware (it was removed from other UE5 titles like Cronos and Fortnite) so it bears mention.

"Lumen Lite". Get it? Light.

UE5 is a dog of an engine, so seeing the Switch 2 running it even in a scaled back fashion but feature-complete is a good indication of where the software running on this hardware is going this generation, expect further performance enhancements and refinement over the next 7 years.

I am interested to see how pricing for the Switch 2 goes over the next 12 months... LPDDR5X has increased 250% in price with a potential for it to reach 500% in 2026 if some projections pan out... It might make Nintendo expedite a premium OLED console release where they can capitalize on a higher average selling price... But also make them delay a Switch 2 lite potential release.
It really depends how long they can coast on their current pricing/supply contracts before they get renewed, which is why Sony can do heavy discounting of the PS5 this holiday season.

But absolutely no way can Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft keep their current prices without some pricing trickery long term. (So buy now!)

But in Nintendo's favor... In hindsight, even though it sucks... 12GB of Ram is probably going to play in their favour in terms of DRAM pricing in 2026 and 2027.
Same goes for the Series S.

A look at the making of Assassin's Creed Shadows on Switch 2; some interesting insights into the porting process.

Apparently the game retains the micro-geometry system of the full fat versions, and Ubisoft are looking at adding back in Screen Space Reflections in a future update.

They praised the SDK's ease of development: The hardware is "a pleasure to work with" according to one dev
