Forums - Sony - New PS5 model officially announced

Original vs New design?

Original 27 45.00%

New 18 30.00%

Where is the PS6? 15 25.00%

Total:60

Not everything is easily emulated and some stuff just can't and some cases it can but not properly as the hardware is too specific. Using a mouse as a light gun sucks. Plus I like the search for new stuff in a store. That's part of the fun. Also playing on original hardware feels better. It just does plus having something tangible feels good. Otherwise, it's shallow. You don't fully appreciate the game when it becomes a Netflix issue. A million choices are so convenient you end up never watching anything. With my collection, I commit to playing it. I had fun playing Neo Contra and Onimusha Dawn of Dreams last night in all that CRT glory.

Plus I'm not into ROMS. The only time I have done anything similar was still on a disc to play on the original hardware of a canceled game like Geist Force or the Atmoswave games fan ported to Dreamcast. Oh yeah on Dreamcast I can play the game with a fishing rod motion controls. That's just so silly it's fun. LOve hearing that VMU beep.

Old hardware is cool.  At one point I had 15 consoles but at some point, especially with a family, it becomes an issue.  Hundreds of games, hundreds if movies, books, music..   and old game collecting is super expensive.

Since it's now been est physical is better as a fact.

Does anyone think the Spider-Man faceplates as the last special edition faceplates? How much longer do you think they will sell the other versions?

I'm pretty sure all we established was people don't know the definition of fact.

One word -> emulation

So you're preaching illegal downloads?

1) Emulation isn't illegal. - Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony use emulation to achieve backwards compatibility with titles.

2) Emulation isn't illegal downloads. - You can use emulators to emulate your games library. I.E. PCSX2, drop your PS2 game into your PC's optical drive and fire up the emulator and play directly from disk.

Both PS5 models got a (second!) price hike in Japan:

This generation kinda stinks.

You really got the perfect profile pic for that post

You don't need to build one yourself, there are plenty of prebuilt ones available. It's still not as easy as getting a console, but you absolutely don't need to build a PC yourself. PC is not the only alternative either - I'm sure the big three are also worried about mobile, and every powerful piece of consumer technology is probably something to look out for as far as the big three are concerned. There is certainly some pressure to keep things competitive. Obviously even more would be better, but it's not a terrible situation.

Most teens and kids indeed start gaming at mobile nowadays. But I don't think dedicated gamers can truly look to mobile as a viable option. Most smartphone games are developed thinking on monetization practices, it's a different subset of bussines that don't target the same audience who buys consoles or build PCs

The pre built PCs, mostly laptops, are much more expensive than console and with worse performance. Well at least where I live. A basic gaming laptop with inferior setup to a PS5 is above 5500 BRL range. PS5 is 4500 range. Series X is also 4500 range. I think PC gaming still fairly good option in Brazil though, thanks to software prices on Steam being way cheaper than on Sony store (don't know about MS store) and also free online, so the higher entry price can pay itself in long run at least (and your collections never really dissappear, you can buy another PC and keep all your games). One of the reasons why I feel PC gaming is more popular than consoles here.

The think is, children who only grew up with gaming on smartphones will have a hard time adapting to console/PC gaming since they are so used to touchscreen controls and limited interactivity. And the number of kids growing up that way is only growing.

My cousin, who only played on smartphones until then, couldn't even manage to get out of the initial cave in Dragon Quest Builders because it blew his mind that he could walk sideways and turn the camera around. Even after knowing about these he still couldn't manage to get the camera and directions straight enough to leave the cave and left the game frustrated after 15 minutes of trying.

Still 3 cm too long to fit in my TV shelf. Sigh...

Remove those white covers and you are set.

This reminds me of how zoomers are often just as inept with PC's as boomers are due to growing up with smartphones and not getting proper experience with PC's growing up.

The original PS5 wasn't exactly a looker but for some reason, the newer model looks worse.

You still need the physical copy though, so thats not the kind of emulation thats being discussed here.
