Because why spend millions upon millions of dollars on games when games like Super Mario, Mario Kart, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Zelda, Smash Bros. etc. basically outsell all Sony games. Would not make sense business wise. Im sure they would still make some at first, but they would probably bank more on the cheaper games that sell more for the same price as their AAA games.

By your logic Nintendo should never make Metroid, Fire Emblem, Donkey Kong, Pickmin, Paper Mario, Splatoon or any of their "mid tier" ips. They should focus only in 30M sellers games. Many Playstation IPs are Very successful and able to reach close, or surpass, the 20M line, like GoW, Last of Us or Horizon, they are all much bigger than mid tier Nintendo IPs.

Yeah and where are the Playstation mid tier games at now? Nintendo doesnt care about Sony IPs and Sony only cares about money. At least thats how it feels like in this Jim Ryan era.

Why are you moving the goalposts?

Manlytears is 100% right. Nintendo having a number of better sellers than Sony's best doesn't render Sony's output (which appeals to a rather different demographic) pointless. Nintendo, like Microsoft and Sony, moneyhats games that sell a fraction of what Sony games do. Even smaller games that barely crack a million will make a difference upon accumulation, never mind Sony's biggest.

For as long as dedicated hardware is a thing, there is room for what Nintendo do.
They offer something that Playstation and Xbox hardware doesn't, and clearly there's merit in that as proven by their successes.
There's more to gaming hardware than just the standard console model Sony and MS offer, Nintendo keep things interesting with by taking risks and innovating.

They basically had to take risk and be innovative cause their home consoles were failures. Switch idea is basically the same as a Sega nomad just much better excusation and timing. If Nintendo played their cards right they would they would be the playstation of today along with a super successful handheld, basically have a monopoly.

Nintendo has more successes than failures; of their 11 systems, 8 of them led their generation in sales over their competitors. Sony by comparison, 3/6 of their systems, minus PS5 which remains to be seen.

And monopolies are bad for the consumer.

What are talking about? Only playstation flop was vita. Anything that sells over 60 million is not a flop. Come on now playstation 5 is gonna sell 80 million at rate guaranteed. Just saying Nintendo brand as a home console was not doing good after the super nes.

PS3 and PSP lost their generations too, to the Wii and DS. PS3 also lost Sony billions of dollars, even at 87 million its hard to see it as a win for them.

PS5 will indeed top 80 million easily, but as to whether it wins its generation, that breaks down into how one wants to define its Nintendo competitor, Switch or Switch 2, and how all three fare in terms of final sales.

I don't really care of wins the generation, and this has nothing to do with what I'm talking about. playstation 3 was a disaster for Sony but it still showed playstation home consoles were still in demand. It wasn't like GC, or wii u where Nintendo had to do something drastically different then thr competition because they could not compete with a traditional home console.

There is clearly a place on the market for Nintendo hardware. Their successes far outnumber their misses. Their future is no more "off their own hardware" than Playstation or Xbox.

I was explaining to you why Nintendo chose to take risks because their home consoles were flopping. Even with the switch there wasn't really any real risk they chose to focus on their handhelds which never flopped and they made the ultimate handheld device.
