For as long as dedicated hardware is a thing, there is room for what Nintendo do.
They offer something that Playstation and Xbox hardware doesn't, and clearly there's merit in that as proven by their successes.
There's more to gaming hardware than just the standard console model Sony and MS offer, Nintendo keep things interesting with by taking risks and innovating.

They basically had to take risk and be innovative cause their home consoles were failures. Switch idea is basically the same as a Sega nomad just much better excusation and timing. If Nintendo played their cards right they would they would be the playstation of today along with a super successful handheld, basically have a monopoly.

Nintendo has more successes than failures; of their 11 systems, 8 of them led their generation in sales over their competitors. Sony by comparison, 3/6 of their systems, minus PS5 which remains to be seen.

And monopolies are bad for the consumer.
