Still, why couldn't it have been an feature announced from the start during the reveal trailer or soon after in a press release? Unless it'll be a post-launch update.

I still find it baffling that they'd inside online for a platformer. Has it even been done before? Did Little Big Planet or Fall Guys do it at least?

LBP did online multiplayer back in 2008. Portal 2 was basically a 3D platformer with online co-op in 2011. Sonic 4 Episode 2 did it in 2012.

Trine 2: Director's Cut was an EXCLUSIVE WII U LAUNCH TITLE that was a platformer with online cooperative play.

No online play was a non-issue in 2006, understandable in 2009, and odd in 2012. In 2023? I can only assume that Nintendo specifically doesn't want people to play this game online for some reason.

Online play has been confirmed in today's Direct. I'm so happy :) Will resubscribe to Switch Online when the time comes. My hype has gone up!

So no online multiplayer directly but you can see and interact with other people playing online in a way that's maybe even more interesting than if it had been just plain online multiplayer. Though I guess kinda sucks for the people that just wanted to play the game online with friends.
