Forums - Website Topics - Discuss the state of the forums and find solutions

I've noticed that the forums and the community is not what it once was and that is why I gathered you guys today to discuss and hopefully we can come to a positive quick solution.

I personally believe its due to the absolute domination of the PS4/5 I mean there is no reason to search up and join a sales site when you already know which side is winning from the start. The PS3/360 era was too close and very competitive sales wise that it made the site an attractive place to those who are passionate about the industry.

Even though I am a Sony fan, I hope with all my heart that the PS5 bombs and Xbox catches up to save this site and get some new blood around here.

Agreeable and reasonable analysis.

The solution is simple: We should get together and buy Xboxes to help Microsoft in these trying times.

I mean, most of the site are Nintendo fans. So if anything, we need more PS, Xbox, and PC fans here on the site.

Dunno if this is a serious topic, but honestly, don't think there is a solution.

The internet is a very different place than what it was a decade ago. There are so many many opportunities for people to express their opinions on games. A forum is going to appeal to a certain niche, but others are going to prefer to do reddit, comment on youtube, their personal social media, etc.

So, the audience is going to go down. Beyond that, weekly game sales are no longer a thing aside from Japan, which is not necessarily within anyone's control. There is going to be natural attrition as with anything else, so what is going to be bringing in new eyeballs to the site? What is here that will encourage new people to visit regularly? The news is available anywhere, the articles are not anything special. So, it's just kind of the odd hardware charts and comparisons, and I don't think that's enough.

In my opinion, I just don't really see things growing beyond what they are now. Just enjoy it while it lasts I guess.

They won't come if there is no competition it's already over before it started.

I base it off my experience, I found the site when I was a young sony fanboy and wanted to follow the ps3 sales hoping it would someday outsell the 360.

The fact that you called it the PS3/360 era and omitted the Wii in that sentence is pretty telling.

But no, your thesis seems inaccurate.  The fact is that in 2006-2010 people were more likely to visit websites and forums.  And there weren't that many of them to begin with.  These days the gaming community is spread out across a great number of robust platforms like YouTube, Twitter, Reddit, Discord, not to mention Facebook (which wasn't even a thing back during the heyday of this site, if you can believe that).  The fact that VGChartz doesn't have a very good mobile site doesn't help things and certainly doesn't encourage new usership.

Overall I think we all should feel lucky the site even still exists some 12-15 years removed from when it had the best shot at viability.  I think we have a strong group of volunteers (and minimally paid) users who are to thank for that.

Ps5 dominance?  Isn't the old outdated switch outselling the ps5?

Nothing wrong with the forum. There are ups and downs for every forum and this is no exception. Maybe turn it into a game and let's make monies.
