If someone told me months ago that the one system to do over 100k this week would not be the PS5 I would've laughed but here we are. PS5 will likely do over 2.5m which would be a really nice result and the Switch could very well reach 4m which I thought there would be no chance of at the start of this year. It's possible it'll be like 2021 and do worse the 2nd half of the year but even if it does surpassing 2018 is pretty much guaranteed at this point so I was wrong about that.

For a mainline FF that looks like the lowest opening at retail they've had even with digital this would put it it at like 700k. I've been of the opinion that FF is no longer a game changer in the region for a while but those numbers are much lower than even I expected. 

Is this the first PS5 game to sell more than 100k in retail it's opening week? There were probably others but I can't remember any.

Anyone's guess, the platform itself has had this bizarre habit of spiking in sales anytime a major release on a PS platform happens. No joke it's been doing this since launch. 

It would do 3 million plus if it released on Switch day one though. Besides it's not like the sales are terrible including digital around 20% of PS5 owners got this game day one/two.

i wonder if the upcoming mario game will have a similar effect as Zelda TotK had. 4M incoming? That would be just crazy, as no one (i think) imagined it 

I think they mean lifetime PS5 sales reaching 5 million. It is about 1.2 million away from that.
