Forums - Gaming Discussion - Overwatch 2 PvE Hero Mode Canceled

https://www.ign.com/articles/overwatch-2-pve-hero-mode-canceled-a-difficult-choice

"Blizzard has officially scrapped Overwatch 2's long-awaited PvE Hero mode, but the game's creative leads are assuring fans that PvE is still a focus for the game moving forward.

On a Twitch stream detailing Overwatch 2's content roadmap, executive producer Jared Neuss explained the decision to cut the PvE content.

"Development on the PvE experience has not really hasn't made the progress that we have hoped," Neuss said. "The team has created a bunch of amazing content so there's awesome missions that are really exciting. There's brand new enemies that are super fun to fight and some truly great and ridiculous hero talents. But unfortunately, the effort required to pull all of that together into a Blizzard-quality experience that we can ship to you is huge, and there really is no end in sight or defined kind of end date where we can put that out into the world.

"And so we are left with another difficult choice. Do we continue to pour all that effort into PvE, hoping we can land it at some point in the future or do we stick with this set of values that we have aligned on and focus on the live game and focus on serving all of you? With everything we have learned about what it takes to operate this game at the level that you deserve, it's clear that we can't deliver on that original vision for PvE that was shown in 2019. What that means is that we won't be delivering that dedicated hero mode with talent trees, that long-term talent power progression. Those things are just not in our plans anymore. And we know that this is going to be disappointing to many of you which is why we wanted to bring it up before we talk about the road map. And to be perfectly honest it's been really difficult for many of us and a lot of folks on the team that pour their heart and soul into that stuff."

Practically RIP Overwatch for me, then. I love the universe but got tired of the toxic PvP environment ages ago. A proper PvE experience was the one thing I was holding out hope for. Hopefully they give this IP the Arcane treatment at some point. Beyond that I don't know what's left for me.

Lol first launching without the main feature that was supposed to set it apart from the first then scrapping it. Goddamn Blizzard really is worse off than I thought, their priorities for this game have just been godawful. I probably put a couple of hundreds hours in the first game, but they've managed to completely kill my interest me at this point.

I have no reason to return to the game now I guess. Stick to Apex for me F2P casual game.

Blizzard really are a shadow of their former self. I fear what monetisation is in Diablo 4 and this is just icing on an already laughable 'update' to Overwatch.

Hmm, pie.

Cancelled possibly due to the lack of interests from fans. Something Blizzard stuffed up on.

For most fans I know, this is the only reason they wanted OW2. I stopped playing because the 'update' they did wasn't really to my interest, making it free and rmoving cosmetics as rewards, taking away any kind of progression in a game I'd paid for but had hopes the PvE adventure mode could live up to their hyped standards.

I expect the interest in the game to die quicker now.

I'm still sitting here, hating the fact that Blizz don't care about HotS, despite the community still playing it daily for both PVP and Vs AI. I hate that 2-3yrs ago, their earning's calls stopped talking about SC2, and some even saying there that "RTS is dead". Hearthstone kinda does some stuff these days, but nowhere near as much as they used to years ago.

Warcraft reforged was obviously a giant mess for them, one they still haven't fully fixed and now also pretend it doesn't exist either (I also lost my god damn digital keys of WCIII/FF expac that I paid for years ago, so they ask me to buy WC3R instead, lolno).

While Dragonflight is a good expansion compared to the last 2, I feel like all Blizz have left to bank on, are WoW, Diablo 4 and it's battlepass/MT cosmetic "shop", and Overwatch 3 skins, like even in WoW's current iteration, they have a trading post where you get some in-game currency to buy some cosmetics from the post each week, and just recently they pulled the shittiest move by taking out an armor set and selling it on the Battlenet store for nearly £10 for a "limited time" (inducing Fomo, while the small print claims it'll come back to the trading post months later).

Blizz are absolutely a shadow of their former selves, and it's so depressing to see how low they've sunk. They used to do quality games, beefy expansions, but now it's all always online based, cosmetic, battle pass and "shop" based transactions, with content either incomplete, removed, buggy or torn apart to sell to you later on.

I too was expecting OW2 PVE content, which is why I primarily had OW2 installed. I have no desire to do OW2 PVP, since OW1 PVP was meta driven and toxic to play, so now that there's no longer any PVE content (meaningful and chunky content btw, not a tiny mode like Junkrats revenge, which is a small event) content, I may as well uninstall the game and never bother with it again, because I know what Blizz was like with Warcraft 3 Reforged. They do not keep their promises.

Blizzard is the worst gaming company out there, worse than EA, Ubisoft, 2K, all of them, don't even know how anybody still cares about them and supports them. Joke company.
