One of Bungie's biggest hurdles has seemingly been resolved: good user reviews. PS Store is currently sitting at a 4.83/5 out of 1.1K reviews. Steam reviews are currently sitting at 84% Very Positive rating from 1.9K reviews.

Great to see, given how mixed the reception to the server slam was. Hopefully this means positive word of mouth will spread to build up a healthy playerbase for the game. All the work Bungie did in recent months wouldn't have meant anything if players who were gonna be there day 1 didn't like the game.

Yeah, hope success for them. It's a win the team needs.

Now remake the trilogy please lol

Not sure if I asked this before, but the new Silent Hill is PS5 console exclusive at launch?

That's crazy...

It sure is. I read this little note about how japanese journalists think Konami could be a very efficient partner for Sony to keep selling in Japan because contrary to companies like Square Enix Konami's gaming business impact in Konami's economy is relatively small and even when small it has games that are always generating revenue like e-football and powerful pro baseball so they can give exclusives to the PS5 without compromising their year.

And it kind of looks like it. The segment they dedicated to Konami last month looked like the segment they would give to a PS Studios game.

Fascinating, thanks for sharing this info that potentially explains the situation.

RE9 was what I wished 7 and 8 were. Probably my favorite mainline entry after the original 4 (or REmake if that counts as mainline).

They've improved the gyro implementation too which is very welcome.

I don't really like RE7, played the demo, bought the game but ended up watching someone play in on YT instead, it has nothing to do with RE and wasn't even a RE game to begin with, it was a VR game they slapped RE into midway to sell it.

RE8 looked a lot better and already a kind of return to form, but yeah, you can't compete with Leon, as soon as rumors about him began I was excited and trailers confirmed the excitement which turned to hype.

I'll be waiting for 9 to drop in price but it has been tempting to get it this last few days lol.

Marathon numbers seem good to me.

Not the outright flop some wanted but perhaps not the smash hit Sony was expecting. Although it does look like the overall reception of the game is improving as players get more accustomed to its systems.

Yeah with that, only time will tell. Bungie has done a fantastic job with the game. Super polished, looks amazing, and the game feels great to play. If there's anything that will cause the game to not grow as much as Bungie might need, it'll be due to Bungie leaning a bit too much into the nicheness of extraction shooter mechanics.

Marathon isn't a pick up and play game, the way the majority of live service games are. It's a slow burn where you need to take the time to fully understand your character systems, gear systems, all the items in the game, levels of AI enemies, like which ones you can attack and which ones you need to hold off till you're stronger. I saw a clip of Ninja taking on a purple level AI enemy with only basic gear, and of course, he got shredded lol. He instantly rage quit the game lol.

Hopefully the dedicated playerbase will be enough to appease Sony, because Bungie really has knocked it out of the park so far. New map drops tomorrow with the raid releasing at the end of the month. I'm looking forward to hopping back on tonight!

TBH I think at this point what Sony wants from Bungie is for Bungie to make money, any money lol.

After 2 years of layoffs, decreasing interest in Destiny 2, a couple of cancelled games and the ill reception Marathon got after reveal thinking they will get the 3.5B back from Marathon alone would be as unrealistic as when they thought Days Gone was the next big thing lol.

Will these numbers be enough for Bungie to not suffer more layoffs? I hope so and I also hope that Sony valuates how the people playing Marathon are actually happy with the game. If they expect for Destiny 3 to be a success in the future they first need to fix Bungie's name and Marathon seems to be a solid step forward.

That's definitely something I hope comes out of this. Sony sees that Bungie still has what it takes and is willing to let them make a Destiny 3 or whatever Bungie decides to work on next. Because with Destiny 2 now on life support, and nothing indicating Marathon will come anywhere close to Destiny's player numbers in popularity, the biggest thing Marathon can be is the playerbase regaining confidence in Bungie. So far, the game is off to a great start in that sense.
