I don't really like RE7, played the demo, bought the game but ended up watching someone play in on YT instead, it has nothing to do with RE and wasn't even a RE game to begin with, it was a VR game they slapped RE into midway to sell it.

RE8 looked a lot better and already a kind of return to form, but yeah, you can't compete with Leon, as soon as rumors about him began I was excited and trailers confirmed the excitement which turned to hype.

I'll be waiting for 9 to drop in price but it has been tempting to get it this last few days lol.
