Okay, so it seems there's not really a mystery over their time between Demon Souls and the Acquisition if they were already helping on GOW from 2020.

But compare that to Bend who supported Naughty Dog while their next project was still being determined. They got a pitch greenlit and started development significantly quicker than Bluepoint did.

Bend have been making original games for 30+years and have been owned by Sony for 26years. Theres genuinely nothing to compare once you add the context lol

Bluepoint made 1 original, very tiny psn game in 2006. They essentially haven't built a game from scratch with its own systems etc they've just remastered and remade existing assets (brilliantly).

Again I don't think there's anything strange about their 2020/2021 activity given they at that point was a remaster/support studio

Sony needs people to actually manage their studios.

Let them pitch their dream games, weight in the cost, time, return and impact is something they are very likely doing already.

If it this process keeps resulting in the studio failing to get over the concept or is always deemed to fail mid production, someone needs to step in and give them direction, and they need to agree to follow it until they can prove they can deliver a good project.

What suggests this isn't happening?

A excellent studio getting closed without them releasing a single game after they were bought?

Which suggests that they were failing to get past the concept stage. It also suggests that even with the possibility of being given a direction they were incapable of getting anything going.

Even if Sony (or someone) were to step in and say that BP had no way forward but to make game ABC, there still needs to be a pitch conceptualized so that long-term planning can begin for the project.

I wonder if we can start rooting for Nixxies to redo Bloodborne.

I guess I expected too much from Bluepoint after they became a first party studio lol.

Only if Sony had a perfect studio to remake Bloodborne and closed them. Man that would just be silly.

Ride The Chariot | ‘26 Completion

Sad news to hear about Bluepoint :(

Well here's a thorough breakdown from 2 employees. Some main points

-They did suggest GOW GAAS to Playstation
-GAAS was too ambitious for them and it got cancelled after missing multiple deadlines etc
-None of their single player game pitches got approved/even remakes suggestions got rejected because Sony thought the market wasn't big enough.
-Couldn't get a game greenlit by Playstation and the mood was soured, people began to leave.

"Everyone enjoyed the God of War universe, and with Playstation wanting to do live service games, Bluepoint pitched this game and it was approved. However, they missed several deadlines and it became apparent how large of an undertaking this project was for Bluepoint. One of them said project sounded good, but we really should not have been doing a live service game. It was out of the norm for us, and our bandwidth. Ultimately, the project was shuttered by PlayStation after being given multiple opportunities, and Bluepoint was tasked with pitching new projects in 2025."

"There had been 4 projects pitched to PlayStation to their knowledge, and these projects were not greenlit. One of them said 2 of these projects were remakes they wanted to take on, but Playstation did not believe they would be successful in the market. Both were apparently single player experiences. I did ask if I could have the names of the projects. Both said no, and the reason is that at least one of the pitched projects is now being worked on by another studio and they do not want to be responsible for putting that info out."
