2025 was quietly a strong year for PlayStation.

Ghost of Yotei, Death Stranding 2, MLB, Destiny Rising, Freedom Wars Remastered, Patapon 1+2 Replay, Everybody's Golf, Sword of the Sea, Lost Soul Aside, and Midnight Murder Club.

In terms of IP connected to them sure. But not a lot of impact in that list, unfortunately.

Still, 2026 seems to be another strong year:

MLB, Saros, Convollaria (finally???), Marathon and Wolverine.

GoW2D should be soon I imagine. And Nioh3 and Phantom Blade Zero should be strong only on PS5 releases.

Tokon too.

Not developed by Sony, but a Sony game still.

By the way, 2026 is the year the PS4 is effectively phased out officially.

We are about to stop getting PS4 games on PS Plus (if there is a PS4 version of a PS5 game there than it'll still be granted).

PS4 is also reportedly going to start taking away features available from new games submission during this year too, giving devs less reasons to make PS4 versions of their games.

And if the PS4 is still in production somewhere, which is likely as they never confirmed it being discontinued worldwide, it's likely to stop too as it's clear the movement is to leave the PS4 behind to become a legacy console.

It will also be the year Genshin Impact, one of the gaming biggest things ever, born on the PS4, will finally stop working on it.

As someone that only during the PS4 gen, with the Slim release back in late 2016, was able to finally have a current gen console (I did get a PS3 in late 2013 before the PS4 was out, but it was the year it was replaced, pretty much 3 months after I got the PS3 it was already last gen), so it marks the end of what was my first proper "next gen" console.

It is the system which I have the most games for, currently with 95 physical games and I don't have a clue how many digital games (nearly all indies), probably around 50.

I love the PS4, love many of its games, love the Dualshock 4, and I will continue to use it when I can, even if just a bit here and there.

I'm making sure to play Ghost of Tsushima Legends (already played the DLC) on it after I cheated it by played Death Stranding on the PS5 instead (I had to try BC sometime lol).

I also love the PS5 but I'll get sentimental about it when it is its turn lol.

Yeah I wouldn't really call 2025 strong but Ghost of Yotei did what it needed to do and I think will excel all lifetime expectations. I see it hitting 10m this summer at the latest.

Death Stranding was well received at least and seemingly works well in PlayStation marketing materials, even if it's probably way over budget for its actual sales potential. I just think it's ultimately quite niche.

2026 is looking more balanced in by comparison, Tokon, Saros and Marathon are a rich mix of genres and healthily spread throughout the year. Then Wolverine will be the biggest PlayStation release since God of War (2018) & Spiderman (2018)...

I think the only thing missing is some more family friendly games. Sony could do with another 2 teams that have team Asobi's broad appeal and inventiveness.

There were a lot of big releases after these titles. God of War Ragnarok sold 15m in its first year, Helldivers 2 sold 15m in 10 months and Spiderman 2 sold 11m in 6 months.

Wish we'd get updated figures for these games. Spiderman 2 was the 8th best selling playstation game in November (USA) so 1.5 years after that 11m figure it's still selling.

Wolverine will be very big, but I'm not certain it'll do better than these.

I also wish Sony would give us constant updates on their games sales, some of them sell really well so it's even a good ad for them for free.

I'm excluding Helldivers because it launched on PC but I think it will be bigger than Spiderman or equal at least... Didn't know Ragnarok did 15m in it's first year though. In my head Spiderman and OG GOW are still Sonys sale pinnacles but we don't have updates to know.

Ironically part of my feeling is that Wolverine will actually benefit from being a game which feels sandwiched between both Spiderman and God of War. Story and reception wise I don't think the spiderman series has the same pull as God of War, but equally GOW is not as approachable or recognisable as Spiderman. I think (and hope) Wolverine will benefit from both. Need to see more of the gameplay of course but I'm anticipating it could be their crowning achievement. Even just on a technical level I think it will really blow people's minds.

Another short year thanks to GTA.

Tokon, Marathon and The Show + the chances of 4:loop releasing this year. This will be the kind of year Sony was expecting back in 2019-2020 when they declared the service push, let's see what happens. In the worst scenario Wolverine and (maybe) GTA will save their asses.

When it comes to services I'm excited about Tokon, LFG's MOBA and the Horizon Multiplayer. Interested but cautious about 4:loop and not interested at all but wishing the best to Marathon and Fairgames.

The games I'm expecting to buy this year from PS are obviously Tokon, SAROS and Wolverine. From others: Mewgenics, Nioh 3, MHS3, Phantom Blade Zero and crossing the fingers for Decapolice and Inazuma Eleven RE.

New Hyperpop PS5 console covers and controllers.

What do you get when you mix yellow (Golden Poppy) and turquoise (Persian Green)?

You get all 4 PS brand colors in 3 new RGB covers.
