Sony: we will let you use our IP to make a game, but release it everywhere but on Playstation

LOL

What a bunch of morons

I agree. Plus they don't do PS All Stars 2.

Marvel Tokon is Sony's fighting game. That was the whole reason why they decided to pursue the game was to have a first party fighting game in their lineup. Especially since they were (at that time) co-owners of EVO. And since they already had a strong relationship with Marvel, they were easily able to get it approved.

I don't think we're in an era of Sony where we would get a All-Stars Battle Royale 2. Would love to be wrong, but for the time being, they only have 1 fighting game in development.

Speaking of which, seeing the X-Mansion stage having background characters of Rogue, Iceman, Beast, Angel, Professor X, Colossus, Psylocke, Nightcrawler, and Gambit, most likely pointing those characters NOT being in the game. Nightcrawler and Gambit being absent would especially hurt! But, I don't see Magneto, Cyclops, or Wolverine. So probably safe bets that they will be in the roster.

Personally I think All-Stars lacked any actual soul or spirit. It tried to be Smash but without the charm or creative ambition. If sony did re-attempt it, I'd much prefer they approach the Powerstone angle and played on environmental spectacle and chaos since so many of sonys games are infact 3rd parson set piece adventures. I think it'd feel a bit more authentic than a 2D brawler

I have seen people coming with this idea. Could be great.

The Steam Machine is a nice addition to someone who only has a console, especially for all the games that don’t land on the console. I do really hope that Valves Half Life project (far to much evidence to suggest it’s not really, and the ending of HLA suggests it’s very likely HL3) isn’t just a PC exclusive. But this is Valve, who hasn’t released a console game in 13yrs so, I’ll play it regardless but like most of my digital library is on PS … 😬

It looks like a PS5 port for Horizon Steel Frontiers may happen down the line.

Hopefully Sony sets up a studio that can port their mobile games onto PS5. There's no reason Horizon or Destiny should be skipping consoles.

There's very good reason: they neither develop nor publish either of these titles.

A PS5 release of Destiny Rising cuts directly into their Destiny 2 user base, just like NCSoft's Horizon will cut directly into their own Horizon MP user base.

That's a self-inflicted wound if the game Sony themselves developed/ published got cannibalised by what they licensed out (since they won't be the ones financially incentivised).

Their internal games need to survive and do well.

Granted the only real benefit here is that NCSoft's Horizon might not release until 2027, so a PS5 port may not happen till end 2027 or 2028. GG's Horizon MP game should be out before that happens.

Jez Corden on PlayStation pulling back from PC for their singleplayer games: "it's my personal opinion that it would be good for sony to do day and date speaking purely mathematically, but a few people saw me say that and told me what they'd heard otherwise"

"just want to add that these were very vague rumors and just podcast discussions and speculations, not a serious report or leak!

it's my personal opinion that it would be good for sony to do day and date speaking purely mathematically, but a few people saw me say that and told me what they'd heard otherwise.

i dont do playstation reporting and shouldn't be used as a source of info for it beyond basic opinions/speculation unless its up on winc. xbox/microsoft is my beat."

Sony still benefits if the mobile version of Destiny or Horizon blow up on console.

There is a lot of money to be made from MTX for these F2P titles. And while cannibalizing can happen, in the case of Destiny 2, I think having Destiny: Rising on console would be beneficial for the IP, as a lot of Destiny fans want to play something new in the franchise. In the case of Steel Frontiers, it doesn't have a solid release date yet, and a late console port wouldn't really impact Guerrilla's multiplayer project.

And to be honest, if Guerrilla's multiplayer project can be overshadowed by a F2P mobile game in the same universe, it never really had a chance to be successful.

What Sony makes from the mobile versions of Destiny and Horizon will most certainly be less than what they make from MTX on their own developed/ published versions. Live service titles are costly endeavours. The issue isn't whether one project overshadows another per se, it's whether cannibalising one another results in financial shortcomings for either or both.

Firewalk Studios is dead from the poor reception of Concord. London Studio didn't have anything but 1 piece of artwork for their live service before they were closed. There's concerns about Haven studio, etc.

Is NcSoft willing to develop and maintain a PS5 version of their game if they can't get a big enough audience to make it financially viable? Does Sony want this scenario to happen to their own Horizon release? I don't think so. While it may seem viable, it's also very easily results in loss of money and, more importantly, jobs.

I don't think it makes a lot of sense to pursue unnecessary competition between one's own IP in the live service space. I get the want to have all PS IP to be available on PS hardware, but that ship sailed 23 years ago with an Arc the Lad 3 sequel/ spin-off on the Wonderswan Colour.

That said, I think the Ratchet mobile MP title makes sense to bring to PS5: it's published by Sony and there's no other Ratchet MP title.
