Forums - Sony - PlayStation Nation |OT| Playing Astro Bot on the Horizon Until Dawn

That monitor has to be the most out of nowhere wild ass announcement! Lol the seemingly only real benefit is the built in charging hook for the Dualsense. Lack of 4K resolution is an even weirder one considering the marketing of both consoles pushing 4K.

Bummed about no new characters in Marvel Tokon, but signing up for the next beta right now.

This sudden State of Play feels like a reactionary one after GTA6 has been officially delayed again. I could see many games unveiled here be slated sometime for the first half of next year.

It looks like the Digital PS5 region locked for Japan will be officially announced here too.

They did announce the exclusive PS5 digital for Japan, 55K yen which is quite a lot cheaper than the current 73K they charge there.

Yeah 55k yen is like half of what it costs here in Sweden.

Somewhat over half what a digital model costs around here in Brazil as well. (But consoles here are obviously a lot more expensive than pretty much anywhere lol).

They got the new japanese CEO to announce it himself, seems like they finally realized their pricing strategy was a disaster there, just took over a year of abismal sales for them to notice...

At least seems like they are being decently aggressive to try to stir it back the right way now rather than just taking it slowly.

IMO you can't recover it so deep into the gen, but it might build decent goodwill to allow the PS6 to not be DOA as soon as it's announced.

Edit: BTW, that would be a great strat to pull here in Brazil as well, make a brazilian portuguese only model and price it accordingly with what people can actually reasonably pay, games eventually go in promotion so people will buy them, but getting the console to begin with is quite the barrier to surpass.

The Xbox Series S was a lot cheaper than anything else here for years (until MS gave up and doubled the price, it just took longer to hit you all lol), and I knew a lot of people would love to be able to get a PS5 like that as well.

The Japanese State of Play was very disappointing and reinforces that they deserve their sales position in Japan.

Reliant on third parties creates quite a hit or miss afair, other than the horror games there was really nothing there to justify why you would get a PS5. Most of those games are coming to S2 and look they would play just as well on the system. Better yet they look like you shouldn't even need to upgrade from a PS4 to play them.

The content gaps left between the huge releases like Final Fantasy/Monster Hunter needs some more inventive AA games (Like Astro). That's when it's sonys responsibility to have more than 2 flagship releases per year.

I think its more that they saw Nintendo found a more effective solution to the problem they were trying to solve/navigate with the price hikes.

I think Sony just didn't care about Japan as they were clearly prioritizing the USA and using both Japan and even Europe at a lesses extent to try to prevent raising the price there as much as possible.

What they did on Japan deservedly took their product down, it was doing fine like the PS4 and the PS3 before it, but them they just showed Japan the middle finger and for over a year now they just watched it burn down without a care.

Since the new japanese CEO took over on April this year, it seems like they finally started trying to take Japan in consideration again, with games like Tokon to mix japanese culture and style into a massively big and deeply american brand (Marvel), now a state of play in japanese, with a japanese only product to deliver a better price there and not use it as fodder to be able to direct more funds to other places, the CEO being there to personally announce it.

To me it's a clear attempt at changing how they treat their customers there, they are finally trying to communicate and show some respect again.

I don't think it'll make a big difference during this gen, but it may build foundations for next gen, specially with the PS handheld that is able to play games at the PS5 version looking like it'll be a reality, and the japanese market is far more easily convinced to adopt a handheld than a home console, even the Vita found somewhat of a public there, so they might actually starting providing them with good reasons to eventually come back around to Playstation.
