If the portable PS5 is real, virtually all PS6 games will have a PS5 version for the whole generation.
Not particularly a problem to me, PS5 is a really powerful system and we would get completely out of the HDD era, so games always being crossgen mean nothing if the quality is there for both versions. |
Yeah, I'm also curious about this. I really don't think we've seen much evidence of developers needing hardware much more powerful then what we've seen on PS5... So far it's just been a push for better image quality/RT and higher framerates. All of which could scale comfortably between a PS6 Portable and PS6 home. |
Sony is working with AMD for their PSSR/FSR efforts, so games should just work exactly like PC games, but with a few modes 4 for each
So the most taxing games could always run on a Portable PSSR2 mode, running at lower resolutions and PSSR2 mandatory for it to run like the PS5 or PS5 Pro.
PSSR2 is the biggest point of the next generation, it makes possible for Sony to keep games on PS5/Pro levels while on a portable.
It honestly doesn't appeal to me personally, I don't want to play God of War 6 on anything but a big screen with all my attention focused on it.
To me portable gaming is a lesser experience for games that are bigger spectatles and that is what the best Playstation IPs are. But it certainly serves a purpose for smaller games or games that can be properly consumed on short gaming sessions. And if it's cheaper than the PS6, well, considering is likely a $800+ machine, I can also see that being the only option for many people as well.
