I'm very curious to see how Horizon Lego does. The game looks great but I do think Sony have misinterpreted the attachments players have to that world & characters. IMO the lego styling and multiplayer experience would have been better suited as an expansion to other IPs like Ratchet even God of War... hell it could of been the perfect place to reboot the Ape Escape IP with a crazy adventure/party MP game inspired and pegged them as sonys equivalents to the Rabbids/Minions.

If it does well for the Horizon IP, that'll of course be great.

Besides GoW, Horizon is a vastly better selling, more popular and well-known IP than either Ratchet and Ape Escape. It also has 3 new games incoming, so it makes sense that Horizon was used. Its a kids-friendly gateway into the IP at large.

But I imagine this is something Guerilla pursued more than Sony looking to jump into a partnership with Lego.

It's not that I don't think Guerrila didn't ask for this but in Sony's company showcase they said their next move to increase the PS market was selling merchandising and LEGO is as big as it gets when you are trying to sell merch so of course Sony wants to have a partnership with one of the biggest toy sellers in the world. As you said, if this game works maybe people who never were interested in Horizon are going to play the main titles and if this game works they can sell merchandise and reach even more people because it's easier to make a lego lover/cute games lover/ kid to like Horizon in LEGO form than making many Horizon core fans who think family games aren't for adults to like the game and to buy merchandise.

For sure Horizon is bigger then Ratchet or Ape Escape, but I do wonder how much value the lego entry will bring to franchise compared to what it could do for something like Ratchet or Ape Escape which have bold/lively characters which I think are more likely to resonate with the age group sony is targeting. I'm also questioning how much appeal the Horizon brand has once you take away its epic production and AAA aesthetic. Ape is maybe too niche but I think Ratchet would of maybe been the better pick. But as I said, I'd be happy to be proven wrong and see this game great things for the IP

I've clocked 101 hours in Driveclub.

The DLC races are unforgiving compared to the base game lol

The way I see it is that bigger exposure, if that is what they get, doesn't necessarily benefit IP like Ratchet and AE because they don't have upcoming games in the pipeline.

A new game in either IP is likely 4 years from conception to release (if not more, 3 is things run smoothly). At that point, you've lost whatever appeal was created.

Of course, I'd also like more Ratchet and AE, especially the latter. So hopefully something can be done about them.

Washington Post just confirmed that LEGO approached Sony about Lego Horizon.

Nice, that's even better because that means the brand will be flexible about expectations. LEGO Horizon looks like the best LEGO game yet but it won't have the kind of sales Skywalker had.

Wishlisted!

Getting it physically, but good for you in the digital front.
If it's 80% as good as Tsushima this is going to be awesome.

It's funny to see people freak out because of the news of PS opening a new studio that will help other studios who are developing services.

First of all they already have 3 studios that help other studios. San Mateo, Malaysia and XDEV. They have 4 if you include nixxes, they were very involved in the Horizon remaster but I personally still haven't seen a description that says they actually went beyond porting and optimizing. Second, even after restructuring they still had 4 services in development by Media Molecule, Bend, Guerrilla and Haven. After Bungie acquisition and the COD guy joining Sony they had 7. Marathon from Bungie, COD guy game (assuming it's a service) and the MOBA from the new studio that is build with people Bungie needed to fire but Sony didn't let go. Those games were already there before Concord and Astro, if there is a change of any direction it will happen at the same time of those games releasing.

I actually see this as a good thing for two reasons:
- This team can help to get the games out earlier.
- Taking people from Bungie actually takes economical pressure from them, creating the chance of stopping Bungie from firing more people and those that now work directly for PS will still work for Bungie.

So if people were talking and lamenting about the industry and people being fired then this should be good news. I like to see things from a human perspective but also from the developer perspective because I'm a developer and I still think Concord was a total miss yes but this wasn't Sony fucking up a good game like some influencers want to sell *cof* Maximillian dood *cof* Concord is/was just a mediocre game made of terrible ideas, plain and simple. That is a situation where the developer actually failed and If someone has to be accountable about it, it has to be the devs just like many of us have paid in the past for our own mistakes at work.

I picked up the Wipeout Omega Collection today as it's my favorite PlayStation franchise, but I haven't played the series since 2048 on the Vita, which I understand a remaster of that game is in this collection. I noticed that the collection runs at 1080p 60fps on a base PS4 and a full 4K 60fps on PS4 Pro. Playing on my PS5 through BC, how do you choose which version of the game to run? Does the PS5 automatically know that I would much prefer the PS4 Pro version of the game to run?
