Republicans only find their spine when they're about to retire.

Mike Johnson's only "accomplishment" as House Speaker = Getting Ukrainians killed.

Well, that and fucking over a Conservative border deal that they asked for.

These include:

- A 16-week national ban on abortion (individual states could go farther).

- An end to "no fault" divorce.

- Ending surrogacy.

- Using federal education funding to end sex education in schools.

- Change federal programs that penalize marriage.

- Revoke FDA approval of "chemical abortion drugs" and the ability to receive abortion drugs via mail.

- Protecting "religious and moral" objections for employers who decline contraception coverage for employees.

- Eliminate policies that "subsidize single-motherhood" (no specifics given).

- Increasing surveillance of abortion and maternal mortality reporting in the states.

- Invoking the Insurrection Act on Day One to quash protests.

- Refusing to spend authorized congressional funds on unwanted projects (a practice made illegal under Nixon) and fight the case to the Supreme Court.

- Eliminating the diversity lottery for immigration and reforming immigration criteria away from nation of origin, education, family connections, and employment to instead base immigration quality on their commitment to biblical teachings. Saying a person's background doesn't define who can enter the U.S., but rather, citing Biblical teachings, whether that person "accept[ed] Israel's God, laws and understanding of history."

- Create a new federal task force on fighting anti-Christian bias to be led by "a fully reformed Department of Justice that's fair and equitable."

- Get court rulings recognizing that the separation of church and state is "a commitment to an institutional separation between church and state, but not the separation of Christianity from its influence on government and society. Such a framework can lead to beneficial outcomes for our own communities, as well as individuals of all faiths."

- Eliminate funding for and penalize state programs that promote transgender acceptance and replace them with programs that attempt to help correct gender confusion in youths.

A lot of those items cannot be done without congress.  Pretty much sounds like a lot of BS dog meat.

Trump said he would be a dictator for a day if elected again.  We ignore that threat at our own peril.  Hoping our checks and balances, and a few morally just cabinet members, save our ass again is way too risky.

You are correct that in normal times, all that would be BS.  But we no longer exist in normal times.  Trump has proven his party will bail him out of any impeachment proceedings.  Trump has proven his Supreme Court (if he doesn't dismantle it) will dance around any legal challenges.  We can't afford to take Trump's intentions seriously only after it is too late.

Ah shit, I missed hat post.

So the US want to become a country with only immigrants from South and Central America and maybe the Philippines (the only countries which could pass the biblical teachings test, because good luck finding many with that knowledge in Europe and even less that are willing to go to the US) and potentially Middle East (Newsflash for those republicans: Both testaments are also part of Islamic teachings). As in, all those people they always want to either get rid off or to block at the borders? Great work, GOP!

In the meanwhile, I'd suspect many liberal and LGBTQ+ people, probably also moderates, to then actively emigrate and renounce their US citizenship, and taking the economy with them since most of them would be the college-educated people the US needs to keep everything running.

People need to understand that the President is not king in the US.  Yes the president can do some stuff but a lot of it can be challenged in court.  A lot of stuff cannot be done unless you have both house and senate within your same party.  Maybe he will throw out a bunch of dumb EOs that will be immediately challenged.

Will Trump be a terrible president.  Hell yeah no doubt but always remember what he says he will do and what he can actually do are two very different things.

I don't like anything mentioned, but I'm not stressing. He's just trying to rally a base.

Given that many courts are overwhelmingly Republican, the checks and balances of the Judicial System are less encouraging...

Arab-American Michigan mayor votes ‘uncommitted’ for Gaza victims

Abdullah Hammoud, the mayor of Dearborn – a Detroit suburb – cited Palestinian grandfather Khaled Nabhan who was filmed kissing the eyes of his granddaughter Reem after she was killed in an Israeli attack in Gaza last year, as he shared a photo of his ballot.

Many progressives in Michigan are voting “uncommitted” in the Democratic presidential primaries in protest against Biden’s “unwavering” support for the war on Gaza.

What happens if Biden loses Michigan?

What happens if Biden loses Michigan?

For the Democratic primary for Michigan: The 117 delegates would go to the highest elected, so if it isn't Biden then either Dean Phillips or Marianne Williamson would gain the ~117 delegates

For the US President Election in Nov: Trump gains 15 electoral votes over Biden.

It'll be interesting how the Israel v Palestine "War" will continue to effect the Election. (Personally, I didn't think a huge amount would do what they are doing now for their primary vote).

It's as I, and Sundin13, have noted.  Our checks and balances are not so balanced anymore, nor do they check as intended.  Just look what he's trying to do with the RNC. Look at his efforts to overturn the 2020 election with a combination of false electors, the GOP, public force, etc...

The guy gives away his whole playbook and we keep saying our institutions will prevent him.  They damn near didn't in 2020.  147 Republicans didn't vote to certify the 2020 election. Trump isn't in a vacuum.  His extremism enables others' extremism and vice versa.  Who is the 'acting' Speaker of the House now?  It's Trump.  Mike Johnson is just a mouth piece for him.  Oh, and he was one of the aforementioned 147 Republicans that wanted to overturn the election.

The Checks and Balances only work if they apply their roles of being checks and balances.  Instead, they are actively operating to enable him.

Take him at his word when he tells you who he is and what he wants and don't assume he will always be contained.  The stakes are too damn high.

Dearborn's Arab Americans have been trending Republican since the last election cycle (because of LGBT panic) but they alone wouldn't flip the election in Michigan anyway.

Right or wrong, most Americans, or at least centrist swing voters, are more pro-Israel than not.

Fair point to bring up, the alliance with this supremacist ideology, along with the nonsensical immigration stance, are the 2 blindspots that will bite the left sooner than later (slowly, the left losing-stance on immigration is being abandoned everywhere though, at least as a campaigning platform). I always raise the question why the left is hell bent on forging a political weapon for this growing western right wing demographic to cancel critics with; islamophobia, just because someone is tactically voting left now doesn't make them left wing (I know we will diverge on this, @SvennoJ ). On the other hand, openly ultra right wing ideologues given free money while committing genocide.

Omg I am losing my mind on how stupid this is, make it make sense.

With that said, the question why are our politicians are so far gone that they are less sensible on Gaza than LGBT-unfriendly demographics and how does the irreparable reputational damage they inflicted upon themselves help the LGBT community anywhere? People should vote Biden, but once/if that conversation is over, a serious progressive movement on how democracy should work has to begin somewhere because the way things are right now is an environment for Trump and Trump-likes to thrive. It was Obama's neoliberal legacy that left the door wide open for Trump, after all.

The interviewer asked good questions, @12:00, there is good back and forth about democracy. Bernie sounds 40 younger than either Biden or/and Trump, how refreshing that he doesn't sound delusional and able to self reflect.

"Why is our democracy more important than those peoples' lives?" is a fair question to ask (I am not saying I agree with her stance).

Another scandalous story about the mainstream media

We shouldn't leave it to Trump-likes to be the mainstream media enemies, it's our stance and we should make it clear with words and actions. Support your fave independent media outlet.
