President Donald Trump left out a key detail this week when he outlined his plans for a massive missile and air defense shield over the continent: He can’t build it without Canada.

And it’s not clear America’s northern neighbor wants in.

Canada would need to play a pivotal role in Trump’s signature, potentially $500 billion effort to build the so-called Golden Dome, according to U.S. officials and experts, with Ottawa providing radars and airspace needed to track incoming missiles in the Arctic.

Canada has nearly 4 million square miles of territory. That airspace offers a crucial line of sight for U.S. sensors to shoot down missiles that Beijing and Moscow are developing to fly over the North Pole — a huge gap in American air defenses.

“What Canada really brings is terrain,” said Glen VanHerck, a retired Air Force general who led the U.S. Northern Command until last year. “If we can position, or Canada positions, over-the-horizon radars further north in the Arctic, that dramatically increases the United States and Canada’s ability to see over the pole into Russia, into China and other places.”

Ottawa has historically funded about 40 percent of NORAD investments, according to VanHerck, and is putting $38 billion into the command to add new radars in the north over the next two decades. Without those investments — and additional sensors that can peer over the North Pole — officials believe the U.S. will have trouble putting together a credible North American air defense.

“It will be very important where Canada decides to put its over-the-horizon radar,” said a Senate GOP aide, who was granted anonymity to talk about closed-door policy talks. “It would be much more difficult without Canada.”

Bad news for Trump’s Golden Dome: He can’t build it without Canada - POLITICO

Do we have thoughts on the concept of an expanded missile defense system for the US/Canada?

I feel like it isn't entirely unreasonable in concept, but in reality it will likely be a money sink for protection against missiles that will never come (and never would have).

The president posted on Truth Social, "I told Canada, which very much wants to be part of our fabulous Golden Dome System, that it will cost $61 Billion Dollars if they remain a separate, but unequal, Nation, but will cost ZERO DOLLARS if they become our cherished 51st State. They are considering the offer!"

Donald Trump Makes Canada a New Offer to Become 51st State - Newsweek

"They are considering the offer!" - LMFAO.

No they aren't, how anyone can possibly believe this shit, JFC.

His lies are becoming worse and even more stupid.

Agreed, but this also underestimates just how gullible Trump supporters really are. Which is, really fucking gullible.

The CPS said Andrew Tate, a 38-year-old influencer and former kickboxer, faces 10 charges connected to three alleged victims, including rape, actual bodily harm, human trafficking and controlling prostitution for gain.

Tristan Tate, 36, faces 11 charges connected to one alleged victim, including rape, actual bodily harm and human trafficking.

Andrew Tate and His Brother Face 21 Charges in The UK Including Rape, Actual Bodily Harm and Human Trafficking.

Trump's about to slam a 500% tariff on the UK to protect his rapist buddies.

Trump responded angrily toward a reporter in the White House after she told him that Wall Street investors are using a new acronym, TACO, to describe the ongoing tariff turmoil caused by Trump. The acronym stands for “Trump Always Chickens Out” and was reportedly coined by a Financial Times columnist, “Wall Street analysts have coined a new term called the TACO trade. They’re saying Trump always chickens out on your tariff threats. And that’s why markets are higher this week. What’s your response to that?” a reporter asked Trump on Wednesday.

Trump said he had never heard of the term before lashing out at the reporter.

“Is it because I reduced China from 145% that I set down to 100%? And then down to another number?” Trump responded. “And because I gave the European Union a 50% tax tariff? And they called up and they said, ‘Please, let’s meet right now, please, let’s meet right now.’ And I said, ‘OK, I’ll give you till June 9th.’

“I actually asked them, I said, ‘What’s the date?’. Because they weren’t willing to meet. And after I did what I did, they said, ‘We’ll meet any time you want.’ And we have an end date of July 9th. You call that chickening out?” he added. He continued by criticizing former President Joe Biden and saying that the country was “dying” under him before he exploded at a reporter.

“But don’t ever say what you said. That’s a nasty question. To me, that’s the nastiest question,” Trump said.

Trump’s meltdown came after multiple reports said Wall Street analysts are using “TACO” trade to describe his flip-flopping policies.

The New York Times reported that investors are using the term to describe how markets plummet after Trump makes tariffs threats, only to rebound days later when he backs down. He has done this numerous times since April, claiming that he is just giving countries more time to strike a trade deal with the U.S.

Chris Beauchamp of IG Group said in a post that “TACO trade triumphs once again” after Trump backed down on the EU tariff threat. His post was first highlighted by The New York Times. “Since the first tariff pause back in April, the TACO acronym has become common among investors. It stands for ‘Trump Always Chickens Out’,“ Beauchamp wrote in his analysis.

Trump Responds Angrily To His Wall Street Nickname

Lmfao!!! Wall Street has a nickname for him now because of how pathetic he is, I knew they weren't buying his shit anymore.

In closely related news, he has also delayed, once again, for like the 5th time now, the big scary consequences that are coming for Russia because he's very mad at Russia! Big scary things coming to Russia if they don't stop! He has delayed it by 2 weeks again, Lmao. His entire Presidency so far has been chickening out on tariffs and chickening out on any kind of toughness towards Russia.

It's quite shocking to see a reporter daring to ask that question in the White House, but I guess all the incidents of TACO and the reoccuring court losses are beginning to add up a little. It's probable that more and more people will realize that standing up to Trump is not an existential threat to their own well-being, but actually the right thing to do and the only way to get out of this make-believe bubble the USA has gotten itself into. There's no strength and respectability on display with this administration, it's actually all weak and pathetic, making this the lowest point the USA has ever reached on the world stage.

Trump is a weak man's idea of a strong man, a stupid man's idea of a smart man. But it's not only him who has turned the USA into an utterly embarrassing country, it's also all the people who keep encouraging him that he is doing a good job.

While The Daily Show, Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel keep making fun of the POTUS, it's the president himself who keeps churning out the humiliation of Trump in its most severe form. It's hilarious.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

The US Trade courts have canceled all of Trumps tariffs.

MICROSOFT 100% jumped the gun and need to lower the Xbox price ASAP and good on Sony for holding your ground. Also looks like everyone how said Sony would increase their price can eat crow.

All the companies who jumped to raise game prices look like asshats right now.

Not exactly all tariffs to my understanding, they've ruled that he does not have authority to set blanket tariffs, so the 30% tariffs on China, the 25% tariffs on Mexico/Canada and the 10% universal tariffs have been halted. The tariffs on specific sectors are still valid as per the court, so the 25% tariffs on auto industry, steel and aluminium as they were done the right way (Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act).

The court ruling against many of Trump's tariffs today would lower US overall tariff rates by roughly 10%, only leaving the tariffs on cars, steel, & aluminum

If it holds (a very big if) tariffs would drop to the lowest rate since March & importers would get retroactive relief

And keep in mind even if the existing tariffs get correctly struck down Trump has other ways of imposing tariffs (Sec 232 Sec 301 Sec 122) to fall back on.

He can still do tariffs via Section 232, Section 301 or Section 122.

  • Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act, the president can impose trade restrictions on national security grounds.
  • Section 301 of the Trade Act, as amended, requires that the U.S. Trade Representative (“USTR”) take action, which may include imposing tariffs, where “the rights of the United States under any trade agreement are being denied” or “an act, policy, or practice of a foreign country” is “unjustifiable and burdens or restricts United States commerce.”
  • Section 122 of the Trade Act, which permits the President to impose tariffs of up to 15% to address a balance of payments deficit or to prevent an imminent and significant depreciation of the US dollar. However, any tariffs enacted under this section can only last up to 150 days without further Congressional approval

The Ruling Mentions Section 232.

For example, in 1962, Congress delegated to the President the power to take action to adjust imports when the Secretary of Commerce finds that an “article is being imported into the United States in such quantities or under such circumstances as to threaten to impair the national security.”

It Also Mentions Section 301.

This power is conditioned on extensive procedural requirements including an investigation that culminates in an affirmative finding that another country imposed unfair trade barriers under § 2411(a)(1)(A) or (B) or § 2411(b), and a public notice and comment period.

===

Sounds like Section 232 is a non-starter for 80% of the tariffs, Lmao. Good luck arguing half of this shit is for "national security" reasons, we need tariffs on clothes because they threaten America! Section 301 sounds like it requires actual work and facts, two things we know Trump hates, they won't be able to use ChatGPT on this one.

Section 122 can only last temporary, has a cap of 15% and Congress has to re-up it which he won't have the votes for.

Sounds like if this ruling holds then he is basically fucked, his entire tariff trade war will go down as a complete and utter failure, meanwhile China can still keep their reciprocal tariffs on America if they really wanted to, Lmao. Also now that other countries know the courts are striking down his bullshit reciprocal tariffs, it will probably encourage some of them to play even more hard ball in negotiations now.

I would say this is actually the best case scenario for TACO, I would say this is like a lifejacket for him. If TACO was smart then he would use this as an excuse to pullback from his disastrous tariff agenda, he can't do that right now, because he is incapable of admitting that he was wrong, but now the courts have given him the perfect excuse.

He would say something like "THE DEEP STATE HAS STOPPED ME FROM MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN BUT WE WILL FIGHT THIS. THE JUDGES ARE ALL CORRUPT. DRAIN THE SWAMP" but quietly backdown from tariffs, tell his stupid fanbase that it's the judges fault that he couldn't make America great again and try to pin the blame on them whilst giving up on his tariff nonsense.

Good thing that TACO isn't smart and he will likely fight this and waste millions.
