Seems to me like a lot of people among the so-called independent voters were aware of how much shit Trump does, but their own stupidity led them to cherry-picking the few parts they liked while pretending that the rest of the package is merely the hyperbole of a political campaign. Hence all of this "I didn't vote for this" when they should really recognize that they made a conscious effort to lie to themselves. Trump didn't even try much to trick people into voting for him, because he was quite open about the insanities he was going to commit.
On a related note, most people who vote for a far-right party would not consider themselves far-right, this holds true in any given country. There's something going on in the human mind that oneself cannot possibly be the bad guy. Of course there are legit far-right people in any given country too, but any far-right political party needs stupid people to vote for them in order to get into power. The USA just so happens to have a higher percentage of stupid people, hence why it's so common to see Americans vote against their own interests and give power to people who couldn't care less about them.
Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.
We complain a lot here, be it about policies being enacted (or in the case of our rare right wing visitors, about (heaven forbid) the existence of dissent thereto
). That certainly includes me. Mocking and excoriating this administration's general policy direction and attitude is something I find easy and often fun and cathartic too. Thought I'd do something different for a change of pace here though because no, I don't actually disapprove of just everything that's being done in Washington right now, believe it or not. I supported the Laken Riley Act, for example, and was glad that it passed and that not every Democrat voted against it. Well there's also another piece of legislation Congress just passed that I'm happy about. It's called the Take It Down Act.
Publicly championed by everyone from Taylor Swift to Melania Trump, the Take It Down Act criminalizes the non-consensual creation and publication of pornographic images and video, as in to say content like A.I.-created deepfake and so-called "revenge" porn, much of which gets shared with the victim's full name, contact information, and/or home address such as to guarantee stalking and harassment and maximize the possibility of violence of them. In other words, it bars you from becoming what the industry calls a "sex worker" without your knowledge, consent, or compensation. The bill, satisfyingly co-sponsored by the unlikely combination of Amy Klobuchar and Ted Cruz, passed the Senate by unanimous consent and recently passed in the House of Representatives by a vote of 409 to 2 and now heads to the president's desk. He has pledged to sign it. All I can say is that it's about damn time!!
Well, just thought I'd highlight something I feel is good that's being done in Washington. It's not too much in the grand scheme of things, but I just highlight it mostly for the edification of our rare conservative visitors who may mistakenly think at this point that my opposition to the current policy direction of my country lacks nuance.

I knew politicians would finally start doing something about AI once they feel the fear about it, AI Deepfakes has no allegiance, someone can just as easy make some AI Deepfake porn of Ted Cruz as they could Amy Klobuchar. It's a start but there needs to be a lot more laws and regulation on all this AI shit. This is the bare minimum but it's a good start.
Along with a total ban on non-consensual AI deepfakes, we need massive fines for using AI in political campaigns and a total ban on using any AI in political campaigns, especially in the forms of deepfake voices and apply those fines to the companies that host the content if they don't remove it in time. We're heading towards an extremely dangerous future with AI if regulation and restrictions don't come in soon.
I've already seen big examples of AI deepfakes used in political campaigns and spread on platforms like Twitter.

If this doesn't show you how fucking terrified of Putin, Trump is, then Idk what else to say, Lol.
Their attempts at peace were to give Russia almost everything they asked for, apply pressure only to Ukraine, and then make vague comments about "I'm mad at Russia but I'm going to give them a few extra weeks to see reason" after Putin spat in Trump's face multiple times, rejected all his ceasefire proposals even after America offered a dozen concessions to Russia and despite Trump saying he is upset with Putin and if Russia doesn't start being reasonable, bigly scary things will happen to Russia soon...They've pulled out.
Oh but don't worry, they pulled out only after they got a fucking mineral deal from Ukraine.
The saddest thing about all of this is America pulling out of peace negotiations is a good thing, because America's attempts at peace negotiations were horseshit and done in bad faith, they surrendered dozens of concessions to Russia to achieve their 24 hour "peace" in desperation, they only applied pressure to Ukraine to desperately try to achieve their 24 hour "peace" because Ukraine was easier to bully, it was getting to a point where America wasn't unlikely to straight up side with Russia to achieve "peace" so America fucking off can only be a good thing.
As long as America still sells military aid to Ukraine (which looks like a possibility) and shuts the fuck up. However, Trump will never stand up strong against Putin, it is clear who is the master in that relationship, instead they'll more likely just trickle out aid to Ukraine still in the form of AD and ammo, it'll likely all be purchased, but you'll never see a clear moment of America under Trump standing up to Putin in a strong way.
Last edited by Ryuu96 - on 04 May 2025Trump voters remind me so much about AfD in Germany and their voters. They vote for AfD because of a few points (like refugees) but they care so little about AfD's whole political program to understand that especially many AfD voters would suffer the most under AfD.
Especially many lazy dudes who prefer to sit with their ass at home while others work vote for AfD. AfD would fuck them lol.
It's also the party which thinks that woman belong in the kitchen while many AfD voters always complain about Muslims saying they treat woman like their possession

Matter-of-factly, I often struggle to think of good uses for this tech and it seems that I'm not alone in feeling that way, as Pew's latest survey on the subject of artificial intelligence found that just 17% of Americans believe that A.I. will have a net positive impact on American life over the next couple decades. I share this profound sense of optimism because I'm already seeing lots of A.I.'s ramifications right now. For example, I listen to a lot of music in the time I spend online if you haven't noticed, and YouTube every so often recommends me A.I.-generated tunes. They can best be described as lifeless, generic, and often comically error-prone garbage and as much should surprise no one. The defining quality of art, after all, is that it expresses someone's feelings about things and machines don't have feelings. A large percentage of the ads I see online nowadays are likewise clearly A.I.-generated in a way that causes me more than just the usual irritation of ads being there; it causes me pain to see them because they're so goddamn bizarre and creepy, like hideous, nonsensical mismatches between images and text. Normal ads are just a nuisance. A.I. ads give me the shivers. Machine logic fucking creeps me out! Those are just two of the benefits of this miraculous technology I get to experience every day of my life now and I wish it would just...go...away!! Far, far away. (Well okay, it can stay in video games, but you know what I mean.)
But there are more benefits, even beyond these and deepfakes! Artificial intelligence also poses a serious risk to the future of entire careers ranging from those of factory workers and truck drivers (yep, self-driving trucks, they say, are the future) to, perhaps most distressingly, public-facing occupations like cashiering. I'm most concerned about the latter, tbh, because of what it represents in terms of further disconnecting human beings from other human beings. Speaking of, the technology is also currently being used by many a lonely man as an alternative to dating actual women. This way he needn't become more sociable or accommodating and instead learns to think of dating as a service to him and of women as basically machines who's task in life is to provide subservience and unconditional flattery and approval. Chatbot girlfriends aren't exactly improving the dating pool, in other words. Indeed A.I. chatbots have already begun accruing a human death toll, successfully convincing some people to take their own lives. And the algorithms behind them will only get more sophisticated.
But am I just being a luddite here? Maybe the potential benefits outweigh the problems and I'm just not seeing it? Well until I see otherwise, I think this technology should very strictly controlled.

Most of Trump's supporters aren't real Christians anyway, Lol. The Christian branch of Trump voters are some of the most hateful fuckers in the world, Lmao. It's fucking crazy how much hate they have in their heart whilst worshipping Jesus Christ. And yes, Trump disrespecting the role of the Pope like that should enrage Catholics, Meloni should be outraged too as Italy's leader, but she worships Trump.

It's basically just back to the previous status quo, but with more shakedown of the Ukrainians from us.
It's kinda like the Russian analysts say: this administration now views us as essentially co-owners of Ukraine with this signing and as a result they now see a reason to continue supporting their defense. I'm not sure all the Ukrainians are thrilled about that mindset emanating from the White House, but figure they'll take what they can get under the circumstances. Protection racket established, congrats. ![]()
As for Trump, I imagine he's gotta be feeling a bit embarrassed by the fact that Putin stood him up and gave him nothing after all that sweet-talking and ass-kissing.
Don't get me wrong, I want peace for Ukraine, but it needs to be a halfway just peace, not peace at any price. Honestly, it does seem reasonable to me to accept something like its current de facto boundaries at this point, given that the front line doesn't really seem to be moving much anymore...like not in the last almost three years now, at least if that concession comes with a security guarantee for the rest of Ukraine. The issue is that Moscow doesn't want that. Their terms for peace are the complete demilitarization of Ukraine and the absence of a security guarantee from the outside -- i.e. total exposure and vulnerability to a future Russian invasion -- as well as the removal of all their current leaders. I see no possibility for peace until that position changes and gets more reasonable and Trump certainly ain't gonna make it happen. Hasn't even tried.

What are the potential benefits?
So far the most I've seen from AI is my kids using it to do their homework for them...
Would you trust AI to take over air traffic control? Or any other task that could have catastrophic consequences if a glitch happens.
The problem with AI is accountability. And that's exactly why for example the IDF uses AI for targeting people in Gaza. AI can quickly generate targets, yet they end up killing civilians mostly. The AI told us there are Hamas fighters present... Soldiers are just following what the AI algorithms tell them to do.
https://www.rusi.org/explore-our-research/publications/commentary/israel-defense-forces-use-ai-gaza-case-misplaced-purpose
They claim 'only' a 10% failure rate, yet the situation on the ground tells mostly women and children got killed, and often zero evidence any fighters were present. Lavender AI is just an excuse to avoid accountability.
AI is great for a surveillance state, it's the new Stasi. Dangerous stuff that will take what's left of privacy away. And of course it will all be sold in the name of security. The US is already going after people for 'thought crimes'.
