Trump has now told Trudeau that the border as defined by the 1908 treaty is invalid and he is considering redrawing it. The main target of this seems to be an attempt to bring the Great Lakes entirely under American control. All of them except Lake Michigan are shared between the U.S. and Ontario.

His justification is that the treaty is between the U.S. and the UK, not the U.S. and Canada. Canada was a British dominion in 1908.

White House hails funding cuts for Columbia University

The Trump administration has cancelled about $400m in federal funding to the New York-based Columbia University over student protests last year that denounced Israel’s war on Gaza. The announcement was made in a joint statement by the US Department of Justice, the Department of Education, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the General Services Administration.

The White House has also commented on the move now.

In a post on X that featured a photo of Trump with the words “Shalom Columbia”, the White House said the decision was made over the university’s “failure to protect Jewish students from antisemitic harassment”.

US rights group slams Columbia funding cuts as ‘unconstitutional’

The New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) says the Trump administration’s decision to cancel $400m in federal grants and contracts to Columbia University is unlawful.

“This move is the latest escalation by the Trump administration to coerce colleges and universities into censoring student speech and advocacy that isn’t MAGA approved, like criticising Israel or supporting Palestinian rights,” NYCLU executive director Donna Lieberman said in a statement.

“It is unconstitutional and unprecedented, but it is entirely consistent with Trump’s long-held desire to silence views with which he disagrees and clamp down on protest,” she said.

Liberman added that the Trump administration was misusing Title VI of the Civil Rights Act – which allows the government to investigate schools that receive federal funding if they are accused of discrimination – to punish political speech.

“Protected political speech should not be a basis of punishment, and Title VI must be applied consistently with the First Amendment,” she said.

Donald Trump is considering pulling US troops from Germany and redeploying them to Eastern Europe, The Telegraph can reveal.

Mr Trump is weighing up withdrawing some 35,000 active personnel out of Germany in a move that would further sour US-Europe relations.

"Trump is angry that they [Europe] appear to be pushing for war," a source close to the White House said.

Brian Hughes, a US national security spokesman, said: "While no specific announcement is imminent, the US military is always considering the redeployment of troops around the world to best address current threats to our interests."

The Telegraph understands that the president is considering redeploying troops from Germany to Hungary, which has maintained a close relationship with Russia.

At an emergency EU summit in Brussels on Thursday, Viktor Orbán, the Hungarian prime minister, vetoed a commitment to bolster support for Ukraine which was signed by all other member states.

Mr Orbán has maintained a relatively close relationship with Russia, often opposing EU sanctions on Moscow.

Mr Trump is said to be considering repositioning some US troops in Europe so they are focused around Nato countries that have upped their defence spending to meet GDP targets.

Donald Trump Considers Pulling Troops Out of Germany and Relocating to Hungary

Let me get this straight, Trump says Russia has legit concerns about NATO, and therefore Ukraine isn't allowed to join NATO because Russia doesn't want NATO on their border, despite having multiple NATO countries on their border already but Trump's idea is to move American troops out of Germany and into Hungary which is even closer to Russia than Germany.

He wants to reposition some US troops in Europe to NATO countries that have upped their defence spending to meet NATO targets. Well, Donald Trump, Poland meets that 2% and is actually the highest spender in GDP % in NATO, even higher than America itself. The Baltic States have always met the 2%, Czech Republic and Romania also meet the 2%. As does Finland, all of these countries are either bordering with Russia or close to Russia, so I suppose that means America will be putting all their troops in these countries, right?

Or will America just be putting their troops in the pro-Russian country, Hungary?

I mean, 23/32 already meet the 2% target and that was because of Russia's invasion.

Remember when about two weeks ago I said that Trump's presidency has increased the likelihood of NATO troops fighting in Ukraine? And that I said it would be US soldiers fighting on Russia's side?

Yup, Trump is stupid enough to set things up in such a way and threaten Ukraine from the west. Not only does it create a second frontline, but Hungary is also the only NATO country that would be fine in being complicit to such actions.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

Not the U.S. but U.S. adjacent. South Korea was forced to release Yoon Suk Yeol from prison by their high court. He was impeached but has not yet been tried. He is still President of South Korea but his executive powers have been suspended pending his impeachment trial.

Palestine Action group targets Trump’s golf course in Scotland

The group Palestine Action has painted the words “Gaza is not for sale” on a golf course owned by Trump in the Ayrshire area on the west coast of Scotland. It also said it dug up the golf course’s holes.

“Whilst Trump attempts to treat Gaza as his property, he should know his own property is within reach,” it said in a social media post.

The pro-Palestine protest network is best known for its attempts to disrupt arms dealers who provide weapons to Israel.

Scotland and Ireland should close Trump's golf courses, revoke watering permits or whatever.

Yeah, I wouldn't even be opposed to America moving some troops from Western Europe to Eastern Europe but Hungary of all countries being the one chosen, the one country that isn't even at risk of a Russian invasion because Orban would hand Hungary over to Putin on a silver platter, I see this more as a threat towards Europe, it's America saying they're pulling their troops from Western Europe and placing them into a Russian friendly country, it's a message to us that America wouldn't lift a finger to help us against Russia anymore, it's a greenlight for Russia to threaten the rest of Europe as American troops sit safely inside the pro-Russian country.

Also, I don't know if they're considering pulling all troops out of Germany but that would be such a braindead strategic and military move to make that it would only benefit Russia, I mean, the Ramstein Air Base? America's HQ for their European and African missions? The vital forward base for American operations to aid them across the world, they really think they can replace that in Hungary of all countries? And like I said, I wouldn't be opposed at some movement of troops, but really picking Hungary, instead of Finland, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, the countries actually at risk, etc. All of these countries also spend higher in NATO than Hungary.

Got to love the Scots.

In a new bill filed in the US House of Representatives, Congressmen Gus Bilirakis and Bran Schneider are asking the State Department to change the categorization of Turkey and move it from the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs to the Bureau of the Middle East.

To date, Turkey has been classified by the US State Department as a “European country.” If the bill is adopted, it would be placed in the same diplomatic category as Iran, Syria and Libya. This bipartisan initiative in Congress is intended to send a message that Washington is carefully monitoring Ankara‘s strategic drift away from the Western camp.

Specifically, the bill requires the State Department to redefine Turkey’s diplomatic status within 90 days and report on the consequences of its withdrawal from Europe.

Gas Bilirakis

“Turkey is showing complete disregard for the observance of international law. Erdogan is systematically acting against American interests and his behavior is exacerbating the already unstable situation in the region. It is time for official U.S. foreign policy to begin to reflect the new reality.”

Bran Schneider

Turkey is at a crossroads, but Erdogan has made his choice. His government is protecting Hamas operatives, strengthening Putin’s war machine and preventing NATO unity – while still demanding the privileges of a Western ally. It’s time for American diplomacy to stop pretending that Turkey is still part of Europe.

Turkey has made a clear choice: it no longer sees itself as a European country, nor does it act as a loyal ally of the West. However, U.S. diplomatic structures have not adapted, allowing Turkey to maintain an influence on U.S. foreign policy that no longer reflects reality. Congressmen Snyder, Bilirakis, Gottheimer, Malliotaki, Pope and Titus are taking a necessary step to align U.S. strategy with reality – recognizing Turkey for what it is, not what we hoped it would be.

USA: Bipartisan Bill in the House Calls For Türkiye to be Categorized as a Middle Eastern Country

American politicians continue to focus on the important issues to Americans, such as renaming the Gulf of Mexico and now, designating Türkiye as a Middle-Eastern country because Türkiye upset Israel. America: Making Israel & Russia Great Again. Americans though, well they better suck it up and suffer because Trump is upset about trade deals he made in his first term.

I'm not exactly a fan of Erdogan but these days I'd trust Türkiye more than I'd trust America, I have issues with Türkiye both domestically and internationally and would never want to see them in EU under Erdogan. Having said all of this, I think this is a load of gaslighting horseshit, the #1 destabiliser of the Middle-East is America, and yes, Türkiye doesn't help either, I don't like their hatred of the Kurds, but ironically when it comes to Europe, Türkiye lately is doing far more for Ukraine and Europe than America.

To suggest that Türkiye is aiding Putin, despite everything that Trump has just done recently is bollocks, look closer to home, Türkiye was literally just in a proxy war against Russia in Syria and before that, Libya, if it weren't for Türkiye, they'd be Russian ships filling up the Black Sea turning Ukraine to rubble and Türkiye has been a strong vocal supporter of Ukraine in many aspects. They come out with these attacks on Türkiye literally the moment Türkiye actually is becoming a stronger supporter of Europe, offering their military cooperation, hmm, interesting timing.

What feels like the true reason for this, is because Türkiye is telling Israel to fuck off with their land grabbing in Syria, I don't buy any of the other bullshit explanations they gave and even more reason I don't believe it is because of this: "Gus Bilirakis and Bran Schneider - co-chairs of Congressional Hellenic Israel Alliance (CHIA)." Lmfao. Of course. There it is.

Ironically this bill comes at a time where Türkiye is growing closer to Europe than ever before, I don't even like Erdogan, think he is a massive twat, but moves like this from America are going to end up pushing Türkiye even closer into Europe's alliance, Lol. Fuck sake, America got me defending Erdogan of all twats.

Exclusive: Israel Lobbies US To Keep Russian Bases in a 'Weak' Syria | Reuters

Got to take a shower after defending Türkiye, I know I can never trust Erdogan, Erdogan does what is best for Erdogan, that tends to be fucking over Russia but you can't trust someone who bases all their decisions like that, but I can clearly see the only reason America is upset is because Turkiye is upsetting Israel. America has no right to speak about Europe after what they've done and criticise other countries, fact is Turkiye is a FAR better supporter of Europe than America under Trump, like leagues ahead. Turkiye literally just offered to join a post-NATO European military alliance so save us the bullshit and give it to us straight "We're mad at Türkiye because Israel told us to be"

ROME, March 8 (Reuters) - The foreign ministers of France, Germany, Italy and Britain said on Saturday they supported an Arab-backed plan for the reconstruction of Gaza that would cost $53 billion and avoid displacing Palestinians from the enclave.

"The plan shows a realistic path to the reconstruction of Gaza and promises – if implemented – swift and sustainable improvement of the catastrophic living conditions for the Palestinians living in Gaza," the ministers said in a joint statement.

The plan, which was drawn up by Egypt and adopted by Arab leaders on Tuesday, has been rejected by Israel and by U.S. President Donald Trump, who has presented his own vision to turn the Gaza Strip into a "Middle East Riviera".

The Egyptian proposal envisages the creation of an administrative committee of independent, professional Palestinian technocrats entrusted with the governance of Gaza after the end of the war in Gaza between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

The committee would be responsible for the oversight of humanitarian aid and managing the Strip's affairs for a temporary period under the supervision of the Palestinian Authority.

The statement issued by the four European countries on Saturday said they were "committed to working with the Arab initiative," and they appreciated the "important signal" the Arab states had sent by developing it.

The statement said Hamas "must neither govern Gaza nor be a threat to Israel any more" and that the four countries "support the central role for the Palestinian Authority and the implementation of its reform agenda."

France, Germany, Italy and UK Back Arab Plan for Gaza Reconstruction

Next four years is going to be a lot of America/Israel/Russia vs The Rest of the World I think.

WASHINGTON, March 6 (Reuters) - The U.S. State Department is preparing to shut down almost a dozen consulates that are mainly in Western Europe in the coming months and is looking to reduce its workforce globally, multiple U.S. officials said on Thursday.

Leipzig, Hamburg and Dusseldorf in Germany, Bordeaux, Rennes, Lyon and Strasbourg in France, and Florence in Italy were among a list of smaller consulates that the State Department is considering shutting down, three officials said, adding that could still change as some staff were making a case for them to stay open.
