Around the Network

Global sales for January 2023 have been released which corresponds to the 27th month of sales for the PS5 and XSX and the 71st month of sales for the Switch. There were also some adjustments to previous months amounting to the following totals: PS5 adjusted up by 42k. Switch adjusted down by 57k. XSX adjusted down by 135k.

Charts and tables in the OP have been updated, here is the data for this month.

Notes:

PS4 only beat this January's PS5 sales once. January 2018 where the PS4 sold 1.32m to this January's PS5 sales of 1.26m.

DS is entering it's final holiday before the release of the 3DS. The gap in sales has continued to widen between it and Switch with the DS selling 3.6m more units in the last 12-month period launch aligned. However this will soon end and it will turn into an endurance battle for the Switch.

XSX sales this month are substantially better than XBO but also substantially worse than the 360. The bigger thing to note is a 24.5% decline YoY, a trend that Xbox will want to reverse very soon.

Charts and tables in the op have been updated for Japan to the latest week.

The source I used to collect Famitsu sales data had a few errors, various typo's, occasionally using the wrong systems numbers for the week and some systems using Mediacreate figures instead of Famitsu. I have chosen to use Famitsu for all for comparisons sake. As such I have been going through all of the Famitsu data and creating a new complete database of weekly figures which I will share shortly. As such some figures for systems may have changed slightly and are now more accurate to Famitsu numbers.

I believe Trunks is planning to adjust XS down a bit further in Q4 22, based on one of the recent market share statements from MS; not sure if he's going to do that now or with the next set of monthly data.

Nice charts btw.

Really interesting, nice graph.

Tables and charts for Japanese sales in the OP have been updated to Famitsu 2023 Week 10.

Notes:

PS5 has posted the strongest opening 10 weeks in Japan for a PlayStation home console since the PS2 in 2005. The PS2 managed 733k in 2005 to PS5's 680k.

Switch posted better sales this week than last though strong sales this week last year hurt a YoY comparison. The DS is entering it's final major holiday in aligned comparisons so will widen the gap one last time over the next few weeks.

Xbox Series had a very strong start to the year relatively but now post price increase sales have fallen dramatically.
