So, apparently Bethesda Publishing pulled funding for multiple unannounced projects, according to Romero Games: https://insider-gaming.com/bethesda-cancels-funding-multiple-projects-studios/

Booty is incompetent. This is not the first sign. RedFall was a clear indication he has no idea what's going on at the studios he is suppose to manage. He has one job..Now it appears he had no idea what was going on with Perfect Dark.

Remember last year Tango shutdown? Booty felt he was to thinly stretched, so they closed the studio, because he couldn't figure out how to manage that amount of studios.

Looks like now funding has been pulled the studio is finished, reportedly all been let go. Hopefully the other studios that lost funding manage to find funding from elsewhere.

"the small game studio is said to have laid off all developers working on its unannounced FPS title."

*sigh*

So the layoffs at MS/Xbox aren't even alone, the funding cuts to it's publishing also have ripple effects. This gets worse and worse.

In non lay off relayed news, helldivers 2 is coming to Xbox in August.

Reportedly the contraband trailer has been removed from the Xbox YouTube channel today. If true I guess that ones been quietly cancelled.

We're in a completely new era of gaming, I remember people being viciously mocked for even daring to suggest that Helldivers 2 would come to Xbox, Sony will never bring a 1st party to Xbox, ignoring that Marathon exists, Helldivers 2 opens the floodgates for every 1st party GaaS from Sony to eventually make its way to Xbox and it makes total sense despite what console warriors would say.

I don't think this means single-player titles are coming but absolutely all multiplayer focused titles from Sony should eventually make their way to Xbox and likely will, and this also shows that Sony won't give a shit about their 1st parties being played on a hypothetical Xbox/PC hybrid device. Though I question the logic of the smaller stuff not coming to Xbox like Lego Horizon.

Some people owe some other people an apology though for saying they're idiots for thinking Sony will ever port their 1st parties to Xbox. Times are changing and we'll see more and more of this in the future. I have zero surprise Helldivers 2 is coming to Xbox, I might even play it, Lol. It's also being published by Sony as well, not even a 3rd party publisher as they usually do.

Xbox console hardware as know it is basically at its end. Future hardware is all going to be windows based with multiple store fronts that will run all Sony games anyway. So there's not really a reason to keep them exclusive anymore.

Series is finished and not remotely competition for them, next MS hardware(s) won't be traditional consoles and will run Sony steam games anyway.

Im not sure the floodgates will open either right now but in a couple of years it'll all be mute.

Four and a half months.

Similar to the Tango situation, you'd think they wouldn't commit to such strong language if they were already entertaining the idea of closing the studio, or cancelling the game. But the time leading up to them pulling the plug seems too short.

Is Nadella blindsiding Xbox near the end of the fiscal years and demand they make cuts for X amount of millions?

Either way, some decisions are made so that investors can look at a line pointing up instead of down.
Which is not real growth.

I hope the Overwatch team didn't get hit with layoffs and budget cuts.
Last thing they need after recently getting the game in a better direction.

Exactly, and there's no way they can stop these future Xbox devices from playing Sony games, and there's no reason they should (businesswise) it just doesn't make sense. Who cares whether it's now on Xbox Series X or in 2 years from now on some Xbox branded Windows device, at the end of the day it's essentially the same shit, Lol.

If people become upset by this then I hope they realise that the future Xbox device which runs Windows is going to be playing all Sony games, but it's not going to matter to Sony, it's going to be a PC device first and foremost, and Sony brings their games to PC now. Next Xbox won't be competition to PlayStation and will instead settle amongst the hundreds of PC devices to push the Windows ecosystem.

It'd be like Sony blocking access to Alienware PCs playing PlayStation games, Lol. That's essentially what the next Xbox device will be, except with an Xbox branding instead and Xbox OS/UIUX but that same UIUX will be downloadable on ALL Windows based devices, it's not going to be locked to any one system, the Xbox BC will be coming to ALL Windows devices. If I got a Gaming PC I could essentially turn my PC into an Xbox based experience in the future, I could do it to any PC, the Xbox device will just be for people too lazy or scared to build their own PCs and who want to have a quick plug and play experience.

I might be naïve but I straight up think at this stage, PlayStation could port everything to Xbox (I'm not saying this would happen) and they would still sell 60m+ consoles and still be massively successful because Xbox is no longer competition to PlayStation (and the next Xbox is going to essentially be a Windows PC) which in effect leaves PlayStation the entire market, I mean sure there is Switch 2 but I see Switch as more of a complimentary device than a outright direct competitor to PlayStation.

PlayStation has firmly cemented its position, it is the de-facto device for a market not interested in PC. It has tens of millions entrenched into its ecosystem via their libraries, trophies, friends, etc. Even if they ported everything everywhere, it will be tough for people to just leave their entire ecosystems they've built up. Switch 2 is a weaker device with less 3rd party support, there is little point switching to Xbox since PlayStation already has everything Xbox has so you're just spending an extra $400 or W/E.

The only place I can see them losing players to is PC but there are still tens of millions of people who quite frankly have zero interest in moving to PC and just want a quick plug and play experience that PlayStation offers, without having to worry about all the extra stuff that PC comes with, PlayStation won its userbase and they're entrenched in their ecosystem now.
