I don't understand the need to be negative about Hi-fi Rush potentially coming to Switch (or any other platform for that matter). It doesn't negatively affect you in any way for it to hit other platforms. Y'all act like MS pulled the game off the Xbox store or something and made it completely inaccessible. It's not like Hi-fi is this huge game like Halo or something; in that situation, the devalued comments would make sense.

I think it's a good thing for MS to port some of their smaller titles like an Ori or Hi-fi to Switch, those games aren't pushing systems anyway. Also, what games could Nintendo reasonably port over to Xbox? No offense to Nintendo, they tend to make the same IPs largely so unless you think they're going to put Mario or Zelda on Xbox in exchange for Xbox putting Ori or Hi-fi on Switch it's a strange complaint to have. Heck, if those Banjo rumors are true I'd want that to be on Switch as well.

Bayonetta 2 and 3 for one and two.

Fair, I don't know what the contract Nintendo has with Sega and Bayonetta looks like but Bayonetta is certainly a series that could do well on Xbox.

Also why we assuming it's just Switch. Could easily be PS too.

So much exhausting negativity over a rumour of Xbox putting a game on a different platform. HFR on switch doesn’t devalue your plastic box anymore than putting every single game on pc day 1.

Personally, I don't care if HFR is released on rival consoles. On the other hand, it weakens the brand even more and risks lowering sales even further if it happens again for bigger games.

If one day Halo Infinite or Gears ends up on PS5, it would kill the investment people have made in Xbox and would definitely kill the brand in terms of home consoles.

Xbox players benefit from Tango and Xbox benefiting. I've already played the game so I'm not losing out on anything. The game has likely exhausted most hardware sales it was going to get. Let's face it, as great as Hifi Rush is, it's not a system seller unfortunately. It should be, but it's not. Clearly the game didn't sell enough, but now it might break even or profit with a switch release. That means Tango has the greenlit to make a sequel and continue to make uniquely fun games that might not sell amazing on Xbox, but at least get a release. I'll take that any day.

I do understand the frustration about Xbox releasing games on Switch but not getting anything in exchange from Nintendo. That shit is annoying. There is nothing that can be done about 3rd party exclusives, but that goes for all platforms too. At least more FF ports seem to be coming to Xbox soon.

Wonder how long until other AA devs start porting their game over as well, or questioning why aren't X, Y and Z coming over to competitor as well. Second paragraph is my biggest annoyance lmao.

Contradicts a lot of Phil's messaging as well, that's where a lot of the problem is too. Messaging from Phil, CFO, has been poor.

I do agree the messaging has been shit and they should be clear on why some titles come and why some don't.

But it does feel specific to certain ones and still case by case, otherwise, where is Grounded for Switch? Where is Pentiment for Switch? Where is Tell Me Why for Switch? I think the question will be, did your game underperform and do you want to make a sequel to it? If so then we can talk about expanding its fanbase. Then I think they'd be various of questions of the risk/reward balance, if the title is pushing hardware, etc.

I don't think they'll be as lenient on AAAs as they're being with some AAs. But we can safely say that As Dusk Falls flopped so they've giving it another breath of life on PlayStation (wouldn't be surprised if we get a sequel) and likely the same applies to Hi-Fi Rush and neither of these titles are pushing hardware.

Leaker said it was Switch (not Nate, the original source, but another verified leaker straight up said it was HFR for Switch).

Could be PS...But Nate has sources in Nintendo moreso than Xbox/PS and the other leaker made no mention of PS.

It just doesn't help their narrative as a console platform. Especially what Phil has said above. Why not put everything on Switch years later? Doesn't benefit Xbox fans at all. Can't wait for hi fi to get a physical on Switch and not xbox lmao. Can't even negotiate getting Bayonetta 2 and 3 either. Sure other studios at xbox aren't thinking why not put our games on switch as well? Least their audience supports their games blah blah blah.

Keep hearing about how it would mean extra revenue (I mean no shit could say that about everything being on multiple platforms). Not like Xbox is close to tencent in sales.

Can't blame other devs for skipping xbox when MS doesn't even prioritize Xbox.

That is the problem.  Most of you are still in this console war mindset but MS has left that long ago.  MS just do not care about the console war nor do they care about trying to protect the Xbox in that manner.  MS has turned the corner and is a gaming company with services and that is and will be their main focus going forward.  So as soon as you leave the console war, console exclusives and console mindset is when you will truly see MS direction.

Its not about it being extra revenue more than its about leaning into what MS as a company does best.  MS is a service company first and foremost and their whole approach towards gaming once Phil decided that GP was going to be their main focus is to align all of MS gaming towards that end.  Stop holding on to the crumbs of the past as MS lost the console war a long time ago.

Xbox's goal is clearly to reach more gamers, hence why they have a literal logo of "when we all play we all win" and MS clearly wants to keep value in the Xbox ecosystem as well. I don't think it's impossible to do both

Halo, gears, etc .... are all exclusive. them porting over a few smaller games here and there to help the games actually move some units isn't a bad thing.

I'd rather see a sequel to Hi-fi Rush in the future and putting it on Switch could possibly help with that future project than the game just die and never get a new game because it wasn't put on another plastic box

Just got called an Xbox console warrior... Fuck Xbox Empire. Can't wait till MS leaves the console business in 2027. Enjoy poorpass, fuck Noble, and fuck XBOX.

I think it's worth considering the Japanese employee argument.

I do believe that Japan is pretty patriotic and who can blame em when Japan is the birthplace of the console industry, Sony and Nintendo both being Japanese companies, I do start to believe that Japanese developers want to release on PlayStation and/or Nintendo because they want to support their local industry and because they make up like 99% of the market and Xbox makes up that remaining 1%, Lmao.

It could be why we haven't seen Microsoft try to acquire anyone in Japan yet, despite saying multiple times that they want to and rumours they are doing so, it could be a cultural clash and there's a very real risk that any Japanese company they acquire might have an exodus of employees who don't want to only work with Xbox. This could be Microsoft saying to Tango that they will support their home market.

And if this is the case then really Microsoft doesn't have much choice.

Thinking back on the leaked Microsoft document where Microsoft would have promised to keep every Sega IP multiplatform in an acquisition, why would they do that? I don't mind but thinking about it, it is odd, this document is around the same time that Phil said "every future Zenimax title exclusive!" in emails and Matt said "PS ports? Nah! Screw that!"

Zenimax I think has more bigger IPs than Sega, likely cost more, why would Elder Scrolls be exclusive but a mid-sized franchise with popularity in the West like Yakuza wouldn't be? And then Sega doesn't have anything close to the size of a regular Call of Duty release which is promised to be multiplatform due to its impact on the industry, you could maybe make an argument for Sonic but that IP is battered in 2024.

Idas thinks they were close to acquiring Sega but ultimately stopped at some point. What makes Sega different to Zenimax? Nothing as far as I'm concerned aside from location, I don't believe Yakuza would need PlayStation to be financially successful, nor would Sonic and some other IP, I don't believe regulators would give a shit about Segas IP as they didn't care about anything from ABK aside from COD.

Is the promise of multiplatform a way to prevent an exodus of employees?

Who knows, we don't know anything official yet, Lmao. It is more likely what I said above though, Hi-Fi Rush didn't sell well, they want to expand its userbase via Switch 2 for a possible sequel later on, they want to keep Tango happy, a combination of factors, ultimately still a niche title which won't hurt them too much, as long as the major AAA exclusives still remain exclusive.

This is the only valid excuse and I think Microsoft should totally use it on their PR, because this is not a good look in any other way.
