Series S owners gettin it. RIP.

Not gonna lie, this sets a bad precedent about the presumed pairing between X & S now.  Because MS made an implicit promise that the only sacrifice made with Series S would be graphical fidelity back in 2020.  Chickens coming home to roost by skimping on RAM like they did.

I don't think it is or will be an issue. As long the parity is there for the main stuff.
Split screen is really niche, an they should actually make decision like that if it prevents a game to show up on Series S.

I mean, think about it, it is that or no game at all :) This is good for the Series S owners at the end.

Important part is that this should be very rare exceptions and only for niche features.

And yes, I agree, if anything, memory should have been on part with the X. But the Series S is still a little beast for this price :D

The question is now where does it launch. If it launched in early November that would be great. Could finish out the year playing it plus it’ll give me time to finish AW2. But man StarF, CP77 and BG3 so close together … too much to play lol.

Yes. Agreed. Ultimately good, Series S owners still getting an incredible game, split-screen is niche as hell so barely anyone will care. Just keep this as a very rare exception for niche features only and we're good.

Xbox owners eating good, Starfield coming in a week and looks amazing, just as they're done with Starfield, another huge and amazing RPG will be right around the corner for them. All the dooming is hilarious in hindsight now.

So far no reason to see this as anything else but a rare exception. I'd assume devs want to sell as many copies on Series S as possible.

To be fair S has already been lacking parity on alot of stuff. It never had parity on graphical modes (whereas X sometimes has as many as 3 or 4 graphics modes, S often only has a single mode at either 30 or 60 fps), ray tracing (S has raytracing on very few games compared to X), and various other graphics features (many games where things like texture or shadow quality or LoD's were reduced on Series S in addition to the lower resolution and/or framerate). Xbox only had a parity clause for gameplay features, which Xbox was classifying splitscreen as a gameplay feature, though splitscreen never should have been on that list imo as it is something that affects the performance of a console by needing to render the game world twice from two different player's viewpoints, and therefore should have been classified as more of a performance/graphics feature to start with. As long as core gameplay features remain in the parity clause, including online co-op on any game that has co-op, I wouldn't mind at all if splitscreen was removed from the parity clause for all devs.

Good point, as long as Series S sells well enough then they will be even more convinced to support it adequately.

inb4 we get a thread with 100 users who wanted to play the game in split-screen so badly and are super mad now even though we don't even have 100 active users on this site

Glad to see Towerborne playing well, definitely on my radar.
