I have a little while to think about it. What's most important to me is that it's something I'm really passionate about and that my leads are passionate about (even if it takes some convincing).

I'm not that concerned about it being a big project or small project as long as I/we believe we can execute on the ideas we have.

Thats the spirits I want to see. Thats the thing that produce marvelous work of art, passion. A lot of company have lost their way and passion for their own work. They stop innovating and milk the franchise they created when they were working with actual passion. Activision is a prime exemple of this. Square Enix also IMO.

Answering my question.

  • Electronic Arts - Mass Effect.
  • Take-Two Interactive - Grand Theft Auto.
  • Bandai Namco Entertainment - Dragon Ball.
  • Ubisoft - Assassin's Creed.
  • Sega - Yakuza.
  • Capcom - Dragon's Dogma.
  • Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment - Batman: Arkham.
  • Embracer Group - ?
  • Paradox Interactive - Shadowrun.
  • Focus Entertainment - A Plague Tale.

- I don't care that EA Play is apart of Game Pass as it isn't day one, Lol.

- Bandai I know don't own Dragon Ball but they seem to publish them all.

- For Warner Bros, I'm taking a bit of a risk, I'm thinking that once Suicide Squad flops they'll run back to Batman, Lol.

- Embracer Group is actually a hard one, I'm having difficulty deciding between Tomb Raider, Metro and Borderlands...I'll make my life easier and say despite Borderlands being owned by Embracer Group, it'll still be published by Take-Two and I've already said GTA for Take-Two so I'll remove Borderlands but I'm still left with Tomb Raider and Metro but once again Embracer Group's structure means that Tomb Raider is published by Amazon and Metro will be Deep Silver, Lol.

So I could cheat and say Amazon (Tomb Raider) and Deep Silver (Metro).

- Paradox was an awkward one, I'd have said Shadowrun but I'm only interested in an ARPG Shadowrun and Paradox has only done Turn-Based Shadowruns, they did publish the last 3 but the rights are weird, I'm fairly sure that is an ARPG Shadowrun happened, it wouldn't be made by Harebrained Schemes (Paradox) but if they're still involved and a Shadowrun happens then I would say Shadowrun for Paradox.

- I know A Plague Tale has hit Game Pass, I've yet to play it, I'm likely to play it eventually, so I'd just keep that going.

Sawyer is one of the best directors in the biz, as far as I'm concerned he can do whatever he likes, I may not always play his titles but you can't deny the quality he puts into them and what appears to be a brilliant work ethic from him as well, especially sets a good example as a leader. Plus he is Studio Design Director of Obsidian as a whole, Lol. He is one of Obsidian's most important employees.

Very glad to see him slowly come around to large titles again as well, due to the reason he left them in the first place, it's good to see him in a better place mentally, and speaking of passion, he sure feels passionate about Fallout 👀

I mean, Obsidian does have two AAA games in development anyway so it's not like there's a need for him to jump into another one. That said, I'm fine with whichever way he goes (smaller title or bigger), can't go wrong either way with Sawyer at the helm.

Boring Sunday. Random Question.

You've just been promoted to Head of Gaming and Satya has given you a blank cheque to get whatever series you want on Game Pass, the only catch is that you can only pick one series/IP for each publisher, this includes past, present and future titles, and if they aren't already on Xbox they will all be ported.

Which Series/IP Would You Pick?

  • Electronic Arts - ?
  • Take-Two Interactive - ?
  • Bandai Namco Entertainment - ?
  • Square Enix - ?
  • Ubisoft - ?
  • Konami - ?
  • Sega - ?
  • Capcom - ?
  • Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment - ?
  • Embracer Group - ?
  • Koei Tecmo - ?
  • Marvelous - ?
  • Nippon Ichi Software - ?
  • Paradox Interactive - ?
  • 505 Games - ?
  • Team17 - ?
  • Annapurna Interactive - ?
  • Focus Entertainment - ?
  • Devolver Digital - ?

+ Whoever Else.

  • Electronic Arts - Well, technically EA Games already hit Gamepass, though not at launch. From a business standpoint, day one FIFA would by far have the most impact in terms of new Gamepass subs. On a personal level, future Bioware games as day one Gamepass would be great
  • Take-Two Interactive- GTA obviously
  • Bandai Namco Entertainment- Tales of series
  • Square Enix- Final Fantasy of course, a Gamepass moneyhat is the only way we will get FF ports at all from them
  • Ubisoft- Assassin's Creed
  • Konami- I guess Silent Hill
  • Sega- Day One Sonic would be dope
  • Capcom- I guess Resident Evil day one would have the most new sub impact, Monster Hunter is more popular but sees new releases less often
  • Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment- Every future Lego game day one would be best for sub growth I think, Lego sees new releases far more often than their other series
  • Embracer Group- Kingdoms of Amalur, assuming they are working on a sequel in the wake of the new expansion for the original. If not, I guess Metro would have the biggest sub impact.
  • Koei Tecmo- Dead or Alive if it meant that Koei Tecmo would keep developing the series, if not Omega Force Musou games.
  • Marvelous- Senran Kagura if Marvelous will be willing to revive it after Sony got the IP killed with censorship
  • Nippon Ichi Software- I believe NIS publishes Nihon Falcom games, so definitely Nihon Falcom's Ys and Legend of Heroes series
  • Paradox Interactive- Well, alot of their games are already hitting Gamepass, so I guess Vampire Bloodlines: The Masquerade 2
  • 505 Games- Control 2 and the Control spinoff
  • Team17- Worms
  • Annapurna Interactive- Stray as soon as PS timed exclusivity dies
  • Focus Entertainment- I guess Aliens Dark Descent
  • Devolver Digital- I guess Shadow Warrior 4 if Flying Wild Hog makes one.

Some other publishers:

Private Division- Kerbal Space Program 2

Tencent- I guess the AAA open world new IP that Lightspeed LA is making, headed by the former GTA guy

Netease- I guess the AAA new IP from Jar of Sparks, the new studio headed by Halo veteran Jerry Hook

I feel like JP devs are being too reliant on Game Pass, instead of actually trying to cultivate an audience on Xbox a lot just want a check upfront. Game Pass should be a way to familiarize people to ur franchise and then naturally support the platform. I think Yakuza is a good example of this. It's just unrealistic to expect MS to drop a deal on every and any small-mid size JP game, I honestly think this is why we aren't seeing the smaller SE titles on the platform.

edit: Btw I meant Yakuza being a good example of how to use Game Pass to build an audience, and then support xbox without GP.

It could also be that Xbox fans are too reliant on game pass as well... Especially for third parties where they, "wait to see if they put the game on game pass." And even then, some still won't even play/support them. :/

It could be MS is to reliant on GP because they only really push for those deals as GP is their future.  They could be putting all their eggs in one basket which allow them to miss other deals that are not GP.

Prayers up, playing the worst franchise in gaming in Kingdom Hearts. Send copious amounts of thoughts and prayers to get me through these trying times.

It Takes an Abbey: Developing Pentiment with a (Small) Remote Team - DStars 2023 - YouTube

Sawyer talks about making Pentiment here, in the end he talks about the results and says that it "sold enough" and it's "good enough" and the goal was to make something that would make people see the value in Game Pass, it was very much focused on being a Game Pass game, a niche quirky game. The team was very happy with it. He also said aside from having to move one member over to another team inside of Obsidian, his Pentiment team had 0 turnover, nobody left the company.
