Man, I knew it was gonna be a war between God of War and Elden Ring but man so much of the discourse between them is toxic and ignorant.

Like, it's okay to like both and simply prefer one. It's okay to not like one or the other. It's okay to have criticism, even, but so much of this is 'hah! that other game is nominated? What a joke, it doesn't even [insert thing it absolutely does do]!"

Like, people are out there saying God of War is just dumb action or that Elden Ring has no story. Like, both of those statements are objectively false, just narratives used to discredit the one you don't like (not on here, I'm actually really pleased with how the discourse is here).

Both God of War Ragnarok and Elden Ring are fantastic games all around, but they're also very different games. They are going to have different approaches and different strengths and different weaknesses. I really wish gamers as a whole could have discussions without being toxic.

I have seem worse, people saying that Pentinent or Bayonetta 3 should be in it instead of GoW:R and HFW.

GOW rag took a crap ton of time to install and the update.  Usually I just do not have the patience to wait for all these installs then all the updates afterwards.  I always swing by games I have installed and did not finish at some point in time.  After I finish them, I do remove them.

I'm quite focused on the games I install and play start to finish before moving on, so the internal memory isn't really an issue for me. GoW I bought PS4 disc and paid for upgrade and it installed while I was driving home from work and it was already updated when I arrived =p (wife inserted the disc and put to install PS5 version).

While that works for you my evidence founded on years of nothing more than discussing porn with people on this site makes me believe that (A) wives on this site are at a premium and (B) following your scenario those that do have them would arrive home to play GOW, only to find out that the wife had put the disc in upside down.

I have been pretty lucky and I've not seen people making those absurd claims...but like...My head would explode. Bayo and Pentiment are good (If the category was extended to 10 nominees I'd agree) but OVER Forbidden West and especially Ragnarok? That's not rational, that's anti-Sony bias in action.

I'm lucky guy, she doesn't game but don't bother me for liking it a lot, she only asks me to keep expenditures reasonable.

Well I even think 85+ meta for Pentinent is already to much for how simplistic the game is and Bayo3 also shouldn't be near 90 due to performance issues.

It isn't anti Sony, it is personal preference. I personally think Triangle Strategy is better than New Horizons.

I also legit think Dark Souls 2 is better than Sekiro by an order of magnitude.

Gaming is an opinion. There isn't a right or wrong answer.

Personally I find beauty in simplistic.  Modern games, quite often, can be unnecessarily complicated.

Liking one game more than another isn't the same of being better than another much less GOTY material over another, sorry.

It isn't the "game I PERSONALLY enjoyed more" or anything similar prize.

I would put Triangle as GotY over Horizon.  I thought Triangle was something special.  GotY isn't really any different than reviews.  It is an opinion.  GTA has won a ton of awards and I would never nominate the series.  I think it is complete and utter trash.  Why would I nominate something for GotY that I thought was awful?  RDR2 fits that bill, it was terrible IMO.  I would never nominate it for GotY.

Well would you look at that...Stevior gave god of War a 9/10! for a site that is notoriously anti-sony,it was reasonably positive here!

If you think the game is simplistic, you definitely have not played it. It's an insanely deep and dark story that tackles VERY heavy subject matters. Not to mention a huge history lesson. I've learned more about the Holy Roman Empire in 5 hours of this game than I did in my High School history class It earns its M rating for sure. The high critical praise for Pentiment is completely justified. It's gameplay loop though isn't designed to appeal to a mass gaming audience though. It was intentionally made to be a niche game.

Would I put it over something like GoW: Ragnarok? Absolutely not lol. Ragnarok is a special experience that you don't get to experience that often, and I'm currently working on getting Platinum.

Not that it would matter anyway. Pentiment came out the day after all the nominees were announced, so it wasn't up for any nominations.
