Forums - Nintendo - Bayonetta OG Voice Actress Calls For Boycott of Bayonetta 3

Hiku said:

Jason claims he has seen written evidence of her being offered at least $15K, but she claims this is a lie.

One other thing to consider is also how much voice work she was supposed to do.
If there is a second Bayonetta character (which I've heard theories about) who is now the main character, and the original Bayonetta plays a smaller role, she may have significantly fewer lines to record as well. Kind of like Metal Gear Solid 2.

Her last credited work that I can see is Smash Bros Ultimate (2018) and Bayonetta 2 (2014)
Hellena Taylor - IMDb

That's 8 years since her last proper voice job in the industry.
That may have something to do with her strong reaction to the amount of money she were to recieve here, as she cited not being able to pay for her car or something.

But in that case I'm not sure what she expects will happen to her chances of making more money in the industry after this.
Other studios will probably be weary of hiring her, if they think she will break NDA again if something upsets her.

I just saw this.  If true, that changes the discussion a lot.

Bloomberg is paywalled, so here is another source.

I'm actually a little worried that the amount she said she was getting paid in total and this new report that the 3k to 4k figure was actually a per session figure is the same number. Was there a misunderstanding on her end? A translation issue? Could all this been avoided?

According to people with knowledge of the situation, as well as documentation reviewed by both Bloomberg and VGC, Platinum intended to rehire Taylor last summer.

It’s claimed that Platinum sought to hire Taylor for “at least” five sessions (VGC’s sources suggested it could have been as few as four), with each paying $3,000 to $4,000 for four hours in the studio.

This would have brought Taylor’s total fee to $15,000, Bloomberg reports, as VGC can corroborate via our own sources. One person with knowledge of the deal claimed to VGC this represented a significant increase on Taylor’s fee for the second game.

This changes so much about the situation.

According to Bloomberg, the voice actor responded by asking for a six-figure sum as well as residuals on the game – a claim Taylor strongly denies. VGC sources echoed the residuals claim, but did not mention a requested sum.

Residuals for a voice actor in a video game?  No way.  Developers would need to get residuals first.  Then we can talk voice actors.

Schreier's account certainly sounds more believable than Taylor's, because we already know that Platinum could get Hale for the job, who would definitely be more expensive to hire.

Taylor's reaction that Platinum is trying to save their game is laughable. If anything, controversy is much more likely to be beneficial for games that fly under the radar and we know that the Bayonetta games belong into that category. Aside from a dedictated small following on the internet, Bayonetta is just not a big deal in the broader video game market. But this story here has provided much more exposure for the Bayonetta series than the B3 marketing budget ever could hope for to achieve.

Taylor's reaction that Platinum is trying to save their ass is similarly laughable, because anyone somewhat familiar with Hideki Kamiya knows that respectable PR work is a completely foreign concept to him.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

If true, then she made a fool of herself. And I don't know how she thought she could get away with such a lie.

It does sound like an extraordinary claim though.
$3,000-$4,000 per session for five sessions?

Well if they have seem documents (and Taylor don't present anything that discredit it), then I have to say she is on the wrong here as 5k per session seems very reasonable (would likely go to 20k total or more in the end and she likely isn't on the realm of VAs that could net a 6 figure on a work, not sure even Troy Baker makes that much).

As someone said it could have been a misunderstanding on her confusing 3k per session with 3k for all 5 sessions, that is a very big difference. But well this level of confusion would be unprofessional.

If it was a translation error, wow...

If true, she is definitely dealing with some mental health problems. A bit more worried for her if this turns out to be true. People will go crazy on the woman. Dont know if she can handle something like that well.

Maybe she has serious financial problems and needed to cash in big time. Desperation commonly results in irrational behavior, after all.

In Hiku's post, there's a part where Taylor allegedly said that she wouldn't be able to pay off her car with Platinum's offer. I don't think the claim that Taylor asked for a six digit figure and residuals can be proven or disproven 100% due to the lack of a document on the subject, but since that claim is coming from people who knew about the actual documents/offers, it's more likely that it's true rather than false.

Six figures AND residuals? Holy hell!

Still no proof of that though, so I wont take that as facts. It sounds a bit crazy to be true.

I'm not sure if the six figures part is something he claims to have seen proof of, but the fact that she would have been paid at least 15K is one.
Another journalist corroborating Jason's story:

It would be strange of her to base all of this on a lie that can be disproven if Platinum/Nintendo come out with the receipts, but Kamiya also claimed she is lying, so if you put a gun to my head and asked me to chose, I'd say I'm expecting her to be more in the wrong at this point.
