Forums - Sales - Switch Sales Remain Above 300,000, PS5 Outsells XS - Worldwide Hardware Estimates for Aug 28-Sep 3

MediaCreate has Xbox Series LTD sales at less than half those of Famitsu (150k vs 318k). Xbox estimates are all over the place that you can't really take any of them at face value. How nice would it be if MS actually shared numbers.

PS5 might be entering beast mode. Based on Austin Evan's questionable power consumption tests, Digital Foundry isn't denying the possibility of the new model (CFI-1200) being the rumored 6nm model, which could help with the already rising availability of the console. Even before CFI 1200, PS5 availability in the US and the UK since August soared according to NPD's Mat Piscatella and GamesIndustry's Chris Dring. PS5 may have outsold the Switch in both markets in August.

Is the price hike outside the US in place yet?

Yes in Australia, disc version bundles have showed with a price of AUD895 including a digital copy of Horizon FW.

There also digital edition bundles with a controller for AUD759.

The former lasted for less than 24 hours and the latter for around 2 hours.

Really? I knew there was a difference between the two but thought it was always low enough to where it didn't matter much. I guess there's a far bigger margin of error for systems that don't sell that much.

Switch's 2022 is now over 3 million ahead of 2019, YTD.

Ok, so here's how this could have happened:

Both Famitsu and Media Create don't track all retailers equally. They have samples and extrapolate that to the whole country. I think they use an algorithm or something. There's always a margin of error. It seems they also each don't track some retailers at all. For example Famitsu doesn't track Amazon. So those retailer's sales are estimated.

XBS isn't sold at all by many retailers. Both trackers use methods that assume that a console is sold nation wide like is the case with most consoles.

I assume that both numbers are off and that Famitsu is to high and Media Create to low but by a smaller margin because generally Media Create is considered to be more accurate.

I just glanced at the US sales. This is the first time I can remember seeing three main consoles selling at about the same rate, and I've been watching console sales since around the year 2001. Really amazing stuff.

Supply has definitely improved for PS5 and Series X, and by extension for Switch, since they were also affected by the chip crunch to a lesser extent.
And yeah, sales are neck and neck in America. Most other regions have a preferred brand but America really is anyone's for the taking.

I can't remember the guy's name, he left a while ago, but he was claiming the Switch isn't going to outsell the ps1 because nobody wants one.... bad take.

I don’t know… Aren’t we long past bickering about those people?
