I think shortages are only half the reason. XS is very popular, in contrast to it's predecessor, which will steal many sales.

This is especially true early on, since many want to buy the console their buddy plays on. And if those got an XS because they couldn't get a PS5, then the shortages will also have some long-term consequences.

Microsoft has done a great job in turning things around after the last generation went so poorly.

I do see some people who might get tired of waiting for a PS5 and just pick up an Xbox Series X or S.

This. Also, there's the word of mouth. When someone get a Xbox Series because they can't find a Playstation 5, other people may be influenced.

" I was tired of waiting for a PS5, so I got a Series X instead."

" Oh, that's cool. I think I will get one too."

I'm curious to see what's going to happen when the stock is restored. If it takes too long, do you think the damage can be even worse?

Around the Network

I think ps interest might decrease if shortages remain

Just a guy who doesn't want to be bored. Also

So Switch and PS5 are massively down YoY while the Xbox Series posts its best March.

This is despite 2 exclusives debuting for Switch and PS each, while 0 for Xbox. And that is not counting the 1 exclusive each from last month already in the chart, and again 0 for Xbox.

PS5 feels like it doesn't exist rn since very few can get it. It's momentum is absolutely awful rn. Thing is, i doubt it will be that better at the end of the year. It will have it's first 2 years under heavy shortage which are a crucial part of a console lifecycle. A lot of people will have bought an xbox by then or lost interest.

It's pretty crazy and unexpected. With that said, this is where Game Pass will shine. If some of these people didn't own an Xbox before or skipped the Xbone, they have plenty of games to play. There has also been enough new AAA 3rd party games to keep people engaged.
