Forums - Gaming Discussion - Which competitor is more responsible for the demise of Sega?

Who is most responsible for Sega’s switch to 3rd Party?

Microsoft 5 6.58%

Nintendo 6 7.89%

Sony 65 85.53%

Total:76

I wish this thread would just stop talking about the demise of SEGA and talk about what will bring SEGA Ips to their glory again, Though I have no hope in Yakuza since Nagoshi joined Netease, SMilebit developers that made Jet Set Radio is gone, Panzer Dragoon Creator joined Tencent he'll never come back but with funding he'll make another Panzer Dragon Saga 98% metacritic under Tencent, and 3D sonic is not doing too good hope the new game surprises but keep expectations low. Yuji Naka the creator of NiGhts into Dreams left SEGA and made the terrible Wonderland game. So many Sega developers left It's mostly not looking good and It's only Atlus but they only have Persona and Shin Megami don't doesn't sell alot I think just 1 million, Sega is in deep stuff and Christian White the SOnic Mania developer left SEGA and is making his own game feel like a backstab. Atlus is a 2 franchise ip barely sustainable to SEGA need to acquire a better developer than atlus. Wish Capcom was still 150 million so Sega would be in better position.

Also expect Future Yakuza games under Netease and better games,  so many years key developers been poached from SEGA over the years, Nagoshi was our final SEGA superstar employee that was consistant, Nagoshi Yakuza clone under netease will destroy the Actual Yakuza games from Sega , and I'm sad about that.

Developers > IPS play a better chess game what is an IP without a talent? hope SEGA finds someone young talent Shenmue bombed and all is looking worser which I hate, Keoi Tecmo dead or alive series now sucks but the Creator is with tencent such chess moves I consider Koei tecmo dead or alive and Ninja Gaiden dead series too Tencent is playing chess while rest of game industry playing checkers for IPS and not developers.

Of course the main culprit was SEGA themselves, but since the OP asked for competitors, Sony. Their pricing strategy with PS1/2 was still something the other two weren’t accustomed to, and Sony money whipped a lot of third parties.

But yeah, the mistakes of their past is what ruined SEGA. The DC actually had an incredible library of games, great online play, and cool peripherals but SEGA didn’t have money to continue.

I also don’t agree with people saying that maybe without a third competitor, SEGA could have found a niche and survived. That wasn’t their style. Also look what has happened since they became third party. They still make some good games but the overall quality is nothing like it used to be.

Agree on Sega doing the first blow to themselfs, it began with the Sega Cd it sold 2 million it did good but they made the 32x which bombed hard and everybody hated it including me, then the Sega Saturn was revealed in e3 Sega would be around if Sega Saturn announce their price after Sony PS1 they would of recouperated what the 32x had done but PS1 wanted to make a statement and that statement caused alot of damage to Sega and Nintendo, I voted for Sega not Sony, I just hate that the PS1 reveal was an angry reveal towards Sega and Nintendo, but I forgive them things happen and so PS2 was created and Sega dreamcast birth Microsoft Xbox uninterntionally with Dreamcast + windows CE

Sega is responsible for Sega's failure, nobody else. Sega CD, 32x, Saturn and Dreamcast shortly after. Too much hardware with too little support. Sega destroyed their reputation, nobody trusted the Dreamcast being support, so people didn't buy it.

If Sega Dreamcast sold decently better around 50 million? Microsoft would of stayed and supported Sega more instead of entering console gaming themselfs, Sony was angry Microsoft joined the Dreamcast bandwagon instead of PS2? Which I think PS2 infuriated claimed to be better than a PC since Windows CE is like something you find from a PC? Not sure?

after the gamecube failure the Nintendo was next to get malloywhopped if Wii undersold like gamecube vs PS3, few more blows they be in Sega position right now too as Nintendo 3rd party, but Nintendo succeeded with the Wii even outsold the PS3, Nintendo was on holding for dear life like Sega was with the Dreamcast in 6th generation. Microsoft kinda helped Wii becuase the Xbox 360 was $500? and hardware was really strong which Sony revealed the PS3 at $600 and Sony hurt themselfs in 7th generation losing PS2 and PS1 sales because Microsoft preplanned such a monster in xbox 360 Sony responded with a bigger monster? Sony lost alot of money because Xbox 360 I think?

That's the thread's subject matter, so it is fine to discuss it.

OK, Thread title is very unpleasant I don't consider anyone that did the most damage except Sega themselfs. I don't agree with the polls, but the OP wanted me to remember those awful times I get weak and don't know what to think anymore. I hate this thread. I think it was made several days ago?

Best advice is to exit because you're doing yourself the disservice by sticking around. We also don't need things to be derailed with thread griping (with all due respect).
