I saw that before. Our numbers match that order. Looks like Xbox Series X|S is likely above PS5 in Europe as it is ahead in the UK and Spain.

That is astonishing. This hasn’t happened since the Xbox 360

I would not have called that going into this year. The shortages are hitting Sony the worst out. Microsoft is probably happy they have the Series S.

What are the US vgc estimates for the year so far?

For the US for 2022 we have:

  1. NS: 681,488
  2. XS: 629,523
  3. PS5: 524,534

Sony totally underestimated the shortages, they may keep losing mindshare and momentum to Series S just because demand for current gen systems far exceeds their production.

CrossGen and PC support make a lot more sense now although PS4 isn't helping Sony's exclusives much since the majority of consumers would rather wait and play them on the stock limited PS5. This probably applies to hyped multiplats as well.

Elden Ring placed 5th for the 12 month period ending in Feb. It did it with only two days tracked. This game will deservedly exceed 30 million.

Following adjustments we have US February 2022 figures at:

  1. NS: 378,638 - If asp is ~$300 = ~$113M
  2. XS: 302,859 - If asp is ~$350 = ~$106M
  3. PS5: 174,257 - If asp is ~$480 = ~$83M

Without exact figures available it is impossible to know how close we are as the average selling price could vary depending on availability of the different SKUs. If there were more Series X consoles available it would lower Xbox Series sales and if there were more PS5 Digital Editions available it would increase PS5 sales, etc.

How do these numbers compare to last year?

February 2021:

  1. NS: 642,531
  2. PS5: 293,754
  3. XS: 228,738

Switch and PS5 down by a lot and Xbox Series X|S up a decent amount. If the average selling price of the Switch is below $300 its numbers for February 2022 would be higher. But it is hard to say as the data we have seen is that the OG Switch model is the one that is the most available.

Back to normal this month. Plus the confirmation that there's no reason to expect Sony to outperform their global 2.0m forecast in shipped PS5 units for the quarter. By the looks of it, in February Japan was the only country with decent PS5 supply.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

A Biased Review Reloaded / Open Your Eyes / Switch Shipments

I would wait for Sony's FY22 projections before getting worried about PS5 sales.

OT: God of War is doing exceptionally well for a late PC port. The PC version makes 25+ Million lifetime a lock and puts 30+ Million lifetime on the table. With the Series S being lower priced and having more availability, combined with Switch, PS5, Series X shortages, I'm surprised Microsoft has not won a single NPD yet.
