Just 3 days ago, Putin reportedly awarded its staff for “contributions to weapons development.”

Senate Republican leaders are waiting on President Donald Trump to greenlight an aggressive bid to sanction Russia. Some of their own members aren't interested in delay.

"I'm not waiting for anything. I think we should bring it to the floor and put the hurt on Putin," Sen. Todd Young, R-Ind., told Semafor.

"I'm not looking to anyone else for guidance on this. I've waited long enough," Young added. "And it's pretty clear to me that Putin has been jerking us around for months, and I don't think the United States of America should tolerate that."

A growing number of GOP senators feel that they may have to make a move to hurry Trump along in the talks. Some of them see their action — blessed by the White House or not — as strengthening Trump's hand in his dealings with Vladimir Putin.

"We can hang on to it, or we can move now. It doesn't mean he has to sign it into law right now, but absolutely we want to keep moving forward so that Vladimir Putin knows we are serious. That guy is stringing President Trump along. We don't appreciate it," said Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa.

Republicans are leaving presidential diplomacy to Graham, who argued on the Senate floor on Wednesday for the US to take on Putin more aggressively. The South Carolina Republican also noted how hard it is to get 81 senators in both parties to agree to anything these days; that's how many are backing his bill.

That number includes Republicans who have both supported and opposed Ukraine aid bills over the past three years. Sen. Mike Rounds, R-S.D., estimated as many as 70 senators would support the bill even if Trump didn't explicitly back it.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., said this week that his chamber is ready to move on Russia sanctions whenever the White House is. Yet it also might move sooner.

Senate Armed Services Chair Roger Wicker, R-Miss., said that while Thune and House Speaker Mike Johnson have their hands full now with party-line tax and spending legislation, he hoped Congress might start voting after the upcoming Memorial Day recess.

Senate Russia Hawks Sick of Waiting on Sanctions | Semafor

Even some Republicans now are saying out loud, yeah, Putin is absolutely playing Trump. Meanwhile Trump the senile fella, is sitting there playing with his Lego bricks and saying "Putin loves me!" "We don't appreciate the elder abuse!" says Joni Ernst. I mean it's either Trump is the biggest idiot in the world or he is a Russian asset.

Interesting that many republicans haven't drank the trump kool-aid.  And that seems unusual since most politicians of the same party will have a shit eating grin while parroting back whatever the POTUS says.

This article mirrors what ryuu said a few posts up about how the civilian air traffic is being shut down to a greater degree lately. Ukraine has decided to focus its drones on attacking Russia's airports, not in an attempt to kill civilians, but to let the citizens know that this is a painful war that they probably won't be able to win. So, it's a great idea. Contrast that with Russia attacking civilian buildings in the past such as schools and hospitals. Ukraine's drones are just doign things like attacking planes and runways, so it won't really make them look bad on the international level. This should also force russia to pull EW and anti-air from the front in Ukraine, giving the attackers less of a chance to win.

Haha, taking Houthi tactics of disrupting Ben Gurion air traffic with threats and daily missiles that mostly don't do any damage.

They do it to keep setting off the air raid alarms reminding people the genocide is still going, as well as costing Israel a lot of money to intercept each missile.

Hopefully it will be more effective against Russia although Putin has even less issues suppressing his own citizens :/ Disrupting air traffic has a similar effect as sanctions anyway, costly.

What a load of horseshit, Lol. The Vatican is a sovereign state, Italy has no jurisdiction over it, even if it did, Italy isn't going to arrest the President of Russia (sadly) even with them being part of the ICC. We've already seen multiple countries ignore the ICC for Netanyahu and that dude is far less relevant than Putin, Türkiye is also not part of the ICC so what was the excuse for not going to Türkiye for peace talks?

Dude is just a cowardly little prick who has no intention of peace.

There are no airports in the Vatican, so Putin would have to fly into Italy then travel on to the Vatican.

Not that Id be crying if Putin was arrested.

Shame they still won't call out Trump though, they're framing it as if poor old Trump is being played and they can't stand for that, nobody disrespects Trump! As if he is some senile old man in a nursing home in need of defending, which is incredible framing considering he is the President of the United States, Lol. They'll never say the truth that Trump is a complete idiot being played by Putin, or simply, Trump is a Russian asset, they still have to give Trump an out but he won't take it, Republicans are still cowards for this reason.

True but there's still zero chance Italy arrests him when he has an invite from the Pope himself, it would be a huge drama between Italy and The Vatican. They likely wouldn't arrest him even if it was Italy because it's peace talks and they need to entertain this horseshit for idiots who still believe Putin is negotiating in good faith. Obviously I'd rather he were just arrested, well, I'd rather much worse things happen to him. Any citizen who takes him down would be a hero.

While Italy has no jurisprudence over the Vatican, the Vatican doesn't have any airport or sea port to enter the country without going through Italy. As such, Italian police could arrest Putin at the airport or on the way to the Vatican if he wanted to go to visit the pope.

Meloni has also been very pro-Ukraine, even putting her allies into their place when those wanted to support Putin or tried to say something disparaging of Ukraine. As such, arresting Putin if he were to Land in Italy wouldn't be that outlandish as you seem to think.

Though to be fair, I expect this to be just another excuse of Putin, but for once, it's not entirely without merit.
