This was first discussed back in Nov, after Trump won the US election, for Ukraine. Then it waned. Now it's making a comeback. Unlikely to be the EU's first line of fiscal attack

What the fuck, EU has had 93bn Euros sitting there for 3 years?! Fucking do something already instead of having endless meetings, JFC. If Russia really did invade past Ukraine it would probably take for the Russians to reach Paris before Europe finally stopped talking and took action. Goddamn! This slow shit is precisely why an EU army would be dead as well and it needs to be a European Army entirely detached from EU, a coalition of willing countries + Canada if they want to join. Because everything inside of EU moves at a goddamn snails pace.

European Army + Friends, Lol.

Britons tend to say it is more important to support Ukraine than to maintain good relations with the US

More important to support Ukraine: 48%
More important to maintain good relations with the US: 20%
Neither: 14%

I don't agree that Ukraine should give up it's mineral wealth to secure it's sovereign right to self governance and determination... Wealth that it could use to rebuild the nation.

...But on the flip side, if it's what triggers the US involvement to stop being a wuss and stand up to Russia, then maybe it's the lesser of two evils? I can't describe how pissed I am at Donald Dump and the position he has taken on this issue.

The idea originally came from Zelenskyy because he knew the only thing Trump cares about was money but you might not be up to date, because Trump's counter offer was access to 50% of Ukraine's minerals but for reparations for America's current support up until now and no promise of future support, so it was basically a "Pay us back and maybe we'll support you" which was a horrific deal.

The reparations America demanded of Ukraine were worse than those imposed on Germany after WW1 and yet Ukraine is the victim.

Trump is a fucking idiot and it's clear he only cares about protecting his friend Putin now, he could have accepted access to Ukraine's minerals, continued to support them, booted Russia out of Ukraine and gained even more wealth because Russia currently sits on a lot of those resources too but instead he decided to give Russia a dozen wins and try to pillage Ukraine's corpse.

Nobody is returning to Ukraine without proper security guarantees, which will slam their population and economy, then when America pillages the corpse of Ukraine, they won't have any wealth to rebuild, their army won't be able to restore itself, and when America has bled Ukraine dry, Russia will come in for round 3. That was basically Trump's offer.

This is an MEP but apparently he isn't a great source so take it with a grain of salt but who knows with the current climate. I could see Europe stupidly caving to pressure to keep American troops in Europe even though they'll just get backstabbed at a later date, I could see them throwing Ukraine to the wolves to save their own skin in a short-sighted move, but I hope I am wrong.

He was often interviewed as an expert due to his position before becoming a MEP, so it's possible he has some connections. Our prime minister, who is from the same party, denies having such information, so at the very least this doesn't seem to be exactly common knowledge. Personally I'm just going to wait and see, but all things considered, this does sound worryingly plausible to me...

Ukraine should never fall for that trap. Before you know it you have IMF like mobsters dictating government policies.

Nah, it will only embolden Trump to give even more of Ukraine to Russia.

The US can buy Ukraine's minerals like everyone else. Plus the US owes Ukraine money for modernizing the US army, taking their old stuff off their hands. Recycling isn't free... And if it wasn't for Ukraine standing up to Russia, who knows where we would be at now.

Ceasefires are merely tools of oppression nowadays. Look at Lebanon, Gaza, Syria, ceasefire simply means US lets Israel do what it wants but can't defend anymore. The same will happen with Ukraine ceasefire. US will expect Ukraine to stop defending themselves, leave Russia, while letting Russia continue destroying the areas they occupy and dig in.

The only option with Trump running the US is for Europe to step up and help Ukraine drive Russia out of Ukraine. There is no more alternative. The US under Trump is now an enemy of Ukraine. You can't deal with the likes of Trump/Putin/Netanyahu. Today's axis of evil.

Yup. It's time to use all of Russia's frozen assets and not just the "interest" to finance Ukraine.

It's time for Europe to start shooting down missiles and drones that come into their border space and even ones that come close.

Time for EU to massively scale up defence spending and if Hungary and Slovkia objects then fucking apply pressure for fuck sake, there is literally zero reason Hungary should be able to stop anything EU wants to do and if they don't like it then they can fuck off and leave. Fuck the decorum anymore, Hungary is either with us or against us and if they are against us then use every weapon in EU to attack them with.

This is life or death, time to stop with procedure, decorum, talks, status quo, the old way of things, etc. Recognise the world has changed and either we change with it or we get left behind. We either defeat Russia now in Ukraine or we defeat them during WW3 when they've already invaded Poland. We're heading that way with the current slow walk approach and hoping everything will be okay with words.

Trump already made clear he is with Russia.

Europe needs to massively step up defence spending. UK, France and Germany need to get on the same page (hopefully after Germany elections) and take the lead, show some damn bravery, with the Baltics, Nordics and Poland and any other country that doesn't like things (Hungary, Slovakia) can piss off and leave the EU. It's time to stop pissing around with "This one country disagreed so we can't do anything, sorry"

This is the current way of the world, if Europe continues to be glued to rules and procedures they will be left behind. It's time to show some backbone and assertiveness and if a country like Hungary leaves, then quite frankly, good. But I'm willing to bet Hungary wouldn't leave EU and will instead cave under the pressure.

EU can't continue being dictated to by a few countries...Continue to be obsessed by how things were, and not how they are.

Trudeau: ‘Canada Will Always Stand Up For Ukraine’

Exclusive: Four women tell The Telegraph about the campaign of abuse they were subjected to in captivity

Some have been subjected to cruel degradations, including being forced to march naked in the snow and expose themselves to their captors.

“They led us to the showers with bags over our heads, where we were forced to undress. We had to walk naked in front of the men and everyone else, bent over, through freezing cold water,” said Larysa Kycherenko, 53, who served in Ukraine’s National Guard. “Afterwards, we were forced to sing the Russian anthem while naked. We returned to the cells in tears, utterly distraught, crying and in a state of hysteria… It was inhumane. To them, we were nothing.”

During her ordeal, Ms Kycherenko was forced to stand for over 12 hours a day, beaten, and psychologically tortured – in an apparent violation of the Geneva Conventions. She described being “slammed” against the wall by a guard and beaten with a metal pole, and then being denied medical treatment for the open wound it left on her leg.

At least 48 detention centres have been identified by the United Nations

“I was prepared for the possibility that I might die. I had come to terms with it. But when I was told about captivity, that was the first time I cried,” said Valentyna Zubko, a 32-year-old military medic who was captured at the Illich Steel Plant during the siege of Mariupol. She spent five-and-a-half months in captivity across four different prisons. She described being crammed with fifteen others in a cell meant to house two, with only a hole in the middle of the floor as a toilet.

The UN’s Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has accused Russia of using a form of torture called the “tiny train”, in which POWs are forced to line up, stooped over, and walk between guards who beat them. Ms Zubko confirmed that she had been subjected to the practice.

“Each guard tried to hit us as we walked. We had our heads down and they would force us down even lower. We were beaten badly and the guards seemed to enjoy it. There was no reason – they would just beat us for fun.” Every day the women were forced into stress positions – another form of torture where prisoners are forced to hold agonising postures – for hours at a time, and made to do near-impossible exercise routines supervised by guards who would beat them if they failed to keep up.

“We would fall to the ground and they would punish us [...] We were made to march on the spot in the freezing cold for hours at a time, singing the Russian national anthem,” she said. “Every day your only task is to survive.” Ms Zubko and her fellow prisoners were fed porridge mixed with water, which she said was barely enough to survive. “We were like skeletons,” she said.

Ms Zubko and several women The Telegraph spoke to reported being given electric shocks by cattle prods and power cables during the repeated interrogations. “During interrogations, if I answered in a way they didn’t like, they would electrocute me,” said Snizhana Vasylivna Ostapenko, 23, a junior sergeant of the 56th Separate Mechanised Brigade who fought in the battles for Mariupol and the Azovstal steel plant.

Loudspeakers blasted the Russian national anthem into her cramped cell around the clock to deprive her of sleep in between interrogation sessions lasting several hours.

“Sleep was impossible for days at a time,” she said. “The guards even told us, “We’re feeding you just enough so you don’t die.” It was like they were keeping us alive, and nothing more. They were trying to starve us slowly.” Guards routinely held knives to her neck and took her outside to show her where they would “bury her body” after killing her. They spread falsified news about Ukrainian defeat and told her she had no country to return to and no chance of release.

Lyudmila Huseynova, 61, was detained by Russia in 2019, surviving captivity for three years and 13 days – all for sharing a photograph she took of a resistance flag with people she thought were friends. During her time in captivity, Ms Huseynova was sexually assaulted by a gang of guards and witnessed the rapes of numerous women by soldiers.

“The bag on my head started to fall off, so they grabbed it and tightened it so much around my neck that I was being strangled. This was the first feeling of pain and horror,” she said as she recounted her capture. “They turned me to face the wall and undressed me. Someone touched me, and then there were a lot of hands. And they commented, they laughed, they pinched, they felt everywhere with their hands.”

Ms Huseynova said that for the first 50 days she was kept in a tiny cell she likened to a “torture chamber” alongside 20 other women, with no sanitation and little food. Like others she was forced to stand for over 12 hours a day. “One time I just couldn’t stand it, my back hurt so much… I thought, well, what will happen if I climb up into bed for 10 to 15 minutes,” she said.

Russian guards, watching via a camera in the corner of the cell, threw open the door. “They started yelling, shouting, ‘you have to stand’. But I couldn’t quickly because I was undressed. He grabbed me by the leg and threw me from the top bunk bed onto the concrete floor. I fell, but they continued to kick me. Later I took off my clothes and saw that my body was black.”

Younger girls would be taken to a dormitory where Russian soldiers stayed. “When they returned, they cried,” said Ms Huseynova. Other women were often raped by soldiers who promised they would get food or see their children again, she said. “I heard terrible screams. I could hear people beating and people were screaming. It was such a horror. In my life, even when I was already beaten, it was not as horrible as listening to this.”

Almost three years later, Ms Kycherenko has still not been reunited with her husband or son, who are still in captivity. She is kept awake at night by the thought of them suffering in the same way she did. “I want to tell them that I love them. I was trapped for seven months, but to think of them there, three years later, is unbearable.”

Ukrainian Female POWs Tortured and Paraded Naked Through The Snow by Russian Troops

Who Trump and MAGA stand with.

Türkiye has the 2nd largest manpower (available troops) in NATO...Wonder if there's a scenario where if America pulls back from Eastern Europe, Türkiye tries to fill the void a little, that isn't exactly an exciting prospect to me and I could see it as beneficial to Türkiye...Would give Türkiye a lot more soft power in NATO and in Europe in general...Which isn't a good thing under Erdogan...

Trump also lied about Zelenskyy not meeting with the US Treasury Secretary.

“Scott Bessent actually went there and was treated rather rudely, because essentially, they told him no and Zelenskyy was sleeping and unavailable to meet him. He traveled many hours on the train, which is a dangerous trip, and we’re talking about the secretary of the Treasury. He went there to get a document signed, and when he got there, he came back empty. They wouldn’t sign the document.,” Trump said.

Trump Says Zelenskyy Slept Through a Meeting With Scott Bessent. Photos Say Otherwise | UNITED24 Media

Just another blatant about Zelenskyy from Trump, but sure, go and try to talk Trump around, Macron and Keir.

The art of the deal, those words that i remember you using.

The tactics that our orange president have been using are definitely somewhat underhanded, perhaps a little stupid because he should be playing a more skilled hand as trump is going for a homerun but he can't get anywhere close to that.  Trump is bullying and belittling zelensky so that zelensky will see no choice but to sign that mineral deal with Trump.  But why would he do that?  Trump has talked so much sh!t to Z, so Z knows that he will get a bad deal out of it.  Trump also knows that Russia is getting tired of this war and won't be able to keep pushing forward so much in the coming months once equipment becomes more scarce.  So, i think that Trump is pushing hard for an outcome, in order to stop the war,  but Z has a much stronger position than trump is willing to admit to.  Ukraine has the minerals that trump wants and it will win the long game with russia.  And Ukraine has more and more support from Europe.  Soon, Europe will be putting peacekeeping troops in there, probably at the borders of belarus and poland so that Ukraine can put 100% of everything he has against the Russians.

I've also been wondering whether trump as a narcissist has ever gaslighted somebody, guess i have my answer with zelensky.  Wonder what else he is doing behind the scenes.
