Holidays and launches don't matter much if you can't produce enough units to sell them. The PS5 wouldn't have sold better or worse if it didn't launch in the holidays. Same for Switch, the first year of a successful console is usually selling out and selling what you can produce. Sony however can't produce this gen, so it will not compete with the PS4 and Switch aligned for quite a while.

Holliday sales, in western countries, count 50% of sales in retail. If you talking about Japan, I agree. But all western countries holiday period and last quarter counts for 50% sales in retail.

Not for the PS5 it barely sold more units this holiday. Sony can't produce more than 300k a week, whether it's January or December. So for the PS5 it really doesn't matter until late 2023 when they might be able to produce more than their is demand outside the holidays. But for now the PS5 won't really get any boost during the holidays.

Again the Platform Totals page is the root of the problem. The Hardware by Date page looks to be updating correctly based on the latest adjustments. https://www.vgchartz.com/tools/hw_date.php

So no one on staff does that kind of coding?

That link is PHP which is a dynamic language like JavaScript for various things.

Talon and Truck are the coders we have on the team. But they have fulltime jobs outside of VGChartz, which is their main focus.

As is mine, well let me know if neither of them mess with database coding, I could always try to help put over time if you want.

These stocks shortages are mortfying.

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

I'm now even more confident in the PS5 doing worse than the PS4. Thanks to the shortages the install base advantage it'll have over the Xbox Series is gonna be less large than it would've been otherwise by the time first party output for the latter starts seriously ramping up which will help close the gap further. Sony could very well lose 5-10 million PS5 sales over this long term due to being the most impacted.

Yes I am hoping future ampere numbers are treated with more skepticism now. They were off substantially in 2021 and are looking to be off substantially in 2022 again pre adjustments
