Considering that my 60 GB PS3 can play almost every PS2/PS1 game, and with a linux install, every SNES/NES game, I am inclined to say that yes, the PS3 is in fact, the best console ever.

Game library wise, it's a different story.  Console-wise, the PS3 is hard to beat. 

Easily SNES. Some of the greatest companies working together with Nintendo and churning out shitloads of awesome titles. Final Fantasy II/III (IV, VI), Chrono Trigger, Mario RPG, Secret of Mana/Evermore, Breath of Fire, Super Mario World 1/2, FZero, Donkey Kong Country 1-3, Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past, Inindo: Way of the Ninja, Ogre Battle, StarFox, Super Baseball 2020 (I loved it at least!), ActRaiser, 7th Saga, Killer Instinct...you can add to the list. Edit: Not taking into account what the poster above me said, SNES was the best, but I agree that since the PS3 can do so many things, and with Linux-applied emulators, that it is the best system ever made.

My answer is the "Wii HD", as it has many great exclusive games to be released in the next 96 months... (sarcasm off)

Deffinitely the N64 for me. So many countless hours playing perfect dark, goldeneye and mariokart with friends. And the zelda's, mario, most rare games. It's the most fun i'v had on any console.

The PS3? Jesus Christ.

Anyway, the answer is the SNES, obviously.

I'd say it's a toss up between the Sega Genesis and the PlayStation 2. I have far more games for the both of them than any other console, and they both had an exceptional and quality library.

However, I think once it's a little longer in the tooth, the PS3 might usurp the PS2's title. I'm already getting extensive use out of its UPNP functionality and BD player, and while it was slow to get started, there have been some killer games released between November '07 and April '08... my PS3 library went from 3 to 10 games in the last six months. Given hitting more than 10-15 games per console is atypical for me (Genesis and PS2 excepted), I think the PS3 may join or even pass those two by the time its life is over.

Hmm, I guess if you're like talking hardware only, with all the features and specs and stuff, you could probably say the PS3 (I wouldn't know since I don't own one y'know) Edit: but it sounds like some cool stuff. I don't got enough extra money though^^;

 but if you're talking best gaming experience console. I have to agree when people say SNES. Awesome games, I liked the controllers, and I mean c'mon, it's shaped like a grey box with purple buttons, what can beat that? (ok, last parts a joke, but it didn't look bad^^)
