My thoughts :
-Overall great announcements. Feel like anyone that says nothing was shown... i get maybe not for you but really ? There was amazing game trailers and i actually liked that we can now spotlight more the series and movies made from video games which looked great. Didn't think i would want to watch the Halo series but here we are.

-The Competition for the categories was pretty mid this year just cause not many games release. Heck i think no GOTY contender was above 90 metacritic this year. Most of these wouldn't have stand a chance in a stronger year.

-BUT, the fact that there was no stand out favorites, it was fun to see who would win the categories. I would say i agree with most of them except Art Direction which Deathloop shouldn't even have been nominated ? And Best Direction also considering the game as a flawed ending and that shouldn't happen when you win this award... Still i feel like It takes two taking Goty is refreshing and it's the year a smaller title had the chance to do it, so why not. Metroid Dread got Best Action/Adventure game which is one of the great ones so i'm happy for the team and the franchise getting so much love.

-As for Nintendo, they really said "let's make some quick montage and not announce shit". It felt like i forgot about the Switch for a sec watching this show and i feel like, as big as TGA are getting, Nintendo shouldn't let it go by this badly. I get that their most fitted games for this show are Zelda and Metroid. Metroid just got a game so they will probably wait till next year to show something from Prime remaster or Prime 4. And Zelda only got short teasers until now, and i bet they will their next showing to be a big first trailer with maybe a name reveal, so i doubt they would want to do that there.

-Sony didn't bother to announce many things either. Forspoken (i think that's how it's called) looks even better than i anticipated. Other than that... i feel like that Horizon trailer was still more of the same and wasn't really surprising. I literally already forgot what they showed in it ? Feels like the game isn't standing out from the first one as much as they want it to. It could also get lost in the Elden Ring hype since it's releasing just a week before. And right before that is when we will probably see the first trailer for Botw 2... man 2022 is about to be rough and i don't feel like Horizon is built to compete.

-Xbox was the real winner here. They had amazing reveals and i feel like the overall conversation and presence they had was the biggest. It feels like a turnaround for them and it is exciting.

So imo, this was a solid show, but i do think they could cut it down a little. I don't think i would ever say this but I don't we need that much announcements which really overshadowed the award section this year more than ever. They were great but yea just too many of them. Cutting just 30-40 minutes would have made it a solid 9/10 for me. But i guess i will give it a 8/10, still solid. Also random point but i feel like so many games coming are in the horror genre, which i like but it was a definitive tone that i got from the games coming more so than usual.

I have to give it to Geoff tho, this show is still fairly new and gamers aren't an easy crowd to please. As Award shows are literally dying on network television and can't figure out how to attract a new audience, The Game Awards really are shaping up for a good formula and keep it exciting. There was a good amount of sketch, music, preformance etc. The orchestra is the best thing of the show still imo. Even the ads weren't so bad and the sponsors were actually nicely integrated. Y'all can complain all you want, but it is really amazing to see how this industry is getting more refined. This award show was as well put out as the ones that have been in the game for DECADES and it is exciting to see how it is thriving while they are sinking.

I am really excited to see what will happen next year with all the competition. Elden Ring is clearly the front-runner. Let's see if it can live up to expectations and win big.

Here's a great video explaining why the VGA's are not focusing on what the gamers think should be GotY

It's committee driven so 'It takes two' winning had more to do with various behind the scene aspects than fans voting for it.

Congrats to It Takes Two on winning GOTY and all the other games who won in the respective categories. Sad Ratchet didn't win anything despite being nominated for several categories.

There were awards in the pre show, and announcements. Also, I'm an AI?

But those didn't go long enough and most importantly Trunk's wasn't hosting it, also it would have shortened the main show by having it concentrating on more relevant awards, also concerning your AI question, if all these years on VGChartz have taught me anything it is your attempts at humour are a dead giveaway that you are an AI and also being a Nintendo class AI I was surprised you were being overwhelmed by the game awards.

PS On reflection I shouldn't have been surprised, since the same Nintendo Class AI is responsible for their online services.

So I am an AI invented by someone for the purpose of humor on this website? Who invented me?

Also, what do you mean by Trunks hosting? Like, instead of Geoff?

Out of all that was shown Forspoken is the game that caught my attention the most. It looks gorgeous and the gameplay seems fast paced and interesting.

I still wonder if Ratchet and Clank and Psychonauts ended up taking votes from each other to prevent either from winning. But I could be completely off with that thought considering It Takes Two did well in other categories too.

I am really excited about Forspoken. But I do think at some points, the characters in the trailer kinda have that ugly head vibe that we kept seeing in the PS3/360 era. It is something I'll probably overlook though because everything else is gorgeous.

Cant be oblivion head worse and we survived that

I didn't bother to watch the show, so I'm only just now catching up to the announcements.
-Forspoken still looks great, and could be one of the sleeper hits of next year.
-Horizon remains my most anticipated game of next year by a significant margin, even if we didn't really see anything new.
-The Quantic Dream Star Wars game might be good as long as David Cage has nothing to do with its story.
-Sonic was also there. Good for some people I suppose.
-Senua's Saga is definitely another game I'm looking forward to, although I first need to actually get around to playing the first game.

I was hoping to see that Chrono Cross remake announcement which of course was a no show. The show itself was 6/10 for me.

I recently had a discussion with someone who claimed Switch had taken customers from PlayStation that they would never get back, and this highlights why that isn't the case and that Nintendo's success does not damage other platforms. Switch doesn't need those games to succeed, but there will always be plenty of people that want to play them and for that they will need a different system as only 12.5% of games featured at the TGA's are even available on Switch, and one of those is a cloud version.
