Thanks, I think that's the third week in a row they've made a mistake, they're really getting sloppy. Fixed.

Also surprise return of Resident Evil Village on PS5. How did that happen?
Metroid Dread's legs continue to chug along.
I recently did some research in Nintendo's other first party titles and found that usually Famitsu's sales data is around 75-80% of Nintendo's shipped + digital figures in Japan.
So if we put those numbers up for Dread and the 128k units it has sold so far:
That gives us these projected shipped + digital numbers:
80% - 160k
75% - 171k
The latter would already put Dread in a tie for the 4th best selling Metroid game in Japan alongside Fusion. The top 3 are still the OG game (1.04m), Super Metroid (710k), and the OG Return of Samus (560k).

It's to be expected, COD is a primarily digital series now and the ratio increases with every passing year. Physical sales of the series are dropping everywhere, In the UK Cold War sold 64% less physical units than it's predecessor at launch but digital sales were up by 39%.
Call of Duty Black Ops 4 - Highest digital launch sales in series history
Call of Duty Modern Warfare (2019) - Highest digital launch sales in series history
Call of Duty Cold War - Highest digital launch sales in series history
Call of Duty Modern Warfare (2019) had the highest first year sales in franchise history and 66% of it's sales were digital. - "We again saw substantial year-over-year growth in premium game sales as Warzone players chose to upgrade to the full Call of Duty experience. Modern Warfare first-year premium sales are the highest in Call of Duty’s history, with two-thirds of units sold digitally."
In the UK Call of Duty Cold War sold 64% less physical than Modern Warfare in it's opening week, but digital increased by 39% over Modern Warfare - Call of Duty is No.1 but physical sales continue to slow | UK Boxed Charts | GamesIndustry.biz
Physical sales just aren't a means to determine cod's success anymore. Cold War could be over 70% digital, Vanguard could continue the trend even higher.
Interesting that RE Village made it back onto the charts. I think it is the best selling game on PS5 in Japan. However, I don't think its lifetime sales have increased too much since it was last on the charts. Maybe there was a price cut this week?
curl-6 bet me that PS5 + X|S sales would reach 56m before year end 2023 and he was right.

Famitsu always shows the sellthrough of the physical shipments here. Metroid Dread has an 80-100% sellthrough.
I would like to know where you got those Super Metroid and Metroid II numbers from. All I found was 500k for Super and 104k for Metroid II.

No, why would that be the case?

Deep discounts. A lot of games get it when their is over shipments. COD on ps5 is the next victim
Famitsu Top 50 2021(Unofficial Ranking)
TOTAL: 14.222.268
TOTAL NSW: 13.087.923 (92%)
TOTAL PS4/PS5: 1.134.345 (8%)
Just as I anticipated the PS5 to no longer have a Top 50 game, Resident Evil Village must have had a promotion at retailers to get rid of the original shipment. There is still likely 5-10K units that haven't been sold, but without an additional shipment or best price edition it's unlikely for Village to become the first 100K physical seller on the PS5.
Elsewhere Mario Party Superstars is likely to be one of the major titles this holiday, with a strong start like this it's heading for 1 million by the end of the year. Call of Duty franchise experienced a huge drop and won't make the Top 50 this year.
Top 10 Publishers:
If Shin Megami Tensei V manages more than 183K next week Atlus will replace Neos in the chart, I personally predicted a 200K opening for SMT V which would be the biggest launch for the franchise. With the WoM being good for the game I can see it ending the year in the Top 20 with over 350K physical sales, with digital that would make it the best selling game in the franchise of all time in Japan. Early signs are good, now it's a question of what we observe on Amazon.co.jp, COMG, GEO and Tsutaya over the weekend.

I got those figures from here. Just typed Metroid in the search engine and just looked at the Japan sales.
