Forums - Gaming - Sony needs something to replace Bethesda's single player RPGs.

I would welcome more modern JRPGs, not really played one for a while outside of Persona 5. They also have a back catalogue of owned IPs from Psygnosis days. Who wouldn't like a new Colony Wars or G-Police in modern standards... maybe with VR?

This said, their Single Player games are some of the best around and as more games are turning into action adventure with RPG elements I think they have a lot of stuff covered already.

Hmm, pie.

I don't think it's really something they need. No one else really copies the Skyrim/Fallout design either and considering Skyrim is 10 years old and Fallout 4 is 6 years old you think there would be if there was high demand for similar experiences.

Elderscrolls and Fallout are very popular but I don't think there's huge demand for games that are "like" them but not them.

PlayStation will do just fine with the multitude of other western RPGS like Witcher, Dragon Age, Mass Effect etc.

Meh. Bethesda games are pretty crap and broken. PS5 is selling just fine with people knowing there is no ESVI or Fallout coming to it. Consoles having unique games is what used to make consoles feel distinct from another.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

I think that is what the KOTOR Remake is for.

People also aren't expecting ES6 or FO5 anytime soon, so perhaps they just aren't making decisions based on that yet. But as we get closer to the launch of those games and Starfield, that perspective may shift. Granted, I'm confident we won't get ES6 until at least 2 years after Starfield, which means earliest is late 2024 (and that's if Starfield isn't delayed), and it sounds like they won't even really focus too much on F05 until after that, so probably earliest late 2026 for that game. And that's if major dlc commitments don't further delay their next game.

By then the PS5/Series S/X will be old news. I predict that the impact of MS scooping up Zenimax won't truly be felt until next gen (PS6/NextBox). By then, the only games accessible from Zenimax will be ones at least 1 generation old or a couple random exclusives PS got with the PS5 due to prior obligations. Microsoft is playing the long game here.

I would like to see Folklore revived.

I feel you, 100% agree as well.
They should do their own JRPG, to counter.

Time for a return of a Wild Arms, Legend of Dragoon, Arc the Lad, Dark Cloud, Okage: Shadow King, Rogue Galaxy,.....
Sony just needs to start funding some JRPGs.

He's talking about Western RPG's not Jrpg's. Jrpg's don't sell like they used too

Still in my top 50 favorite games is Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom. It wasn't received to well, but I loved it. This game could also serve as a revamped IP.

But that's gonna be timed exclusivity.

You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind

Sony needs Suikoden.
