Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo quarterly sales update (To September 30th 2021) Switch 92.87m

Do you guys think the Top 30 will be entirely games with over 20 million copies sold at the end of the Switch's lifetime? I think it's a possibility, though probably not likely. I imagine there will still be more 20m sellers on Switch though. SMP is definitely going to reach it and maybe Ring Fit as well. BOTW 2 likely will. Could maybe see BDSP and Legends reaching 20m and probably Gen 9 as well.

I honestly don't see BD/SP reaching 20mil and I'm not sure about PLA.

It would need 7 more games on the Switch to top 20mil. SMP, RFA and BotW2 are all candidates. It would need a new 2D Mario, some surprise hit and maybe better legs for the one or other 10mil+ seller to actually happen.

I would be very confident about predicting 15 million for the first three and 11 million for the other two. I feel like in 2022 we’re going to start seeing a reduction in Nintendo evergreen sales that have been amazing so far, and I feel like that’s going to affect some of the newer titles on the list when we get past Christmas 2022 and Switch stops being the hot item and bringing in a lot of new players. No doubt they’ve still got planned a couple of big games that bring people flocking back to the hardware for shorter periods during 2023 and beyond.
However I mostly see the newer titles needing to have bigger launches than the older games to sell almost as much as the older games as they’re less likely to chart well for multiple years.

I hope Nintendo will promote somehow New Super Mario U Deluxe, it' so painful (heh) for me feeling that it's unable to sell above a Mario party game... The mighty 2D Mario! Well, the time frame of realease might be the culprit (Super Mario Maker, Super Mario 3D world BF, so close and they overshadowed each other I think).

Poke'mon Legends Arceus could get into the top 30 as well, Could PLA perform as well as a new gen poke'mon? I guess if it is highly rated it has a chance.

5-6 years has been typical for Nintendo's systems in terms of launch to replacement.

Personally, I'd be fine with Switch being replaced anytime from holiday 2023 onwards, I just feel that before that would be premature. I'd like to get as much out of my system as possible before I have to buy a new one, and I'm quite happy with the Switch from a performance perspective and don't feel the need for an upgrade yet.

I feel the same - I’m very happy indeed with my switch and have no desire for an upgrade. But then I’m an odd consumer who doesn’t update their phone for about five years and did so only upon the loss of the old one haha

It's a port so i'm sure Nintendo are happy with it's sales and if you combine both versions ( 11.48 + 5.81 ) then it has sold 17.29 million copies which isn't too bad for a 2D Mario game and it still has another 5 million sales left in the tank. And like you said it has so much competition compared to previous 2D Mario games. Out of SMO, SMM2, SM3DW+BF and NSMBUDX i'm sure the general consensus would be that NSMBUDX is not quite as good as the others.

Nah, they released far superior games before and after, and we even have the best side-scrolling modern Mario game on the console, which is 3D World

Yeah, it was an emotional comment! It's a sacrilege a mario party game  to have sold more than a 2D mario, no matter if it's a port (disclaimer: I'm a mario party hoarder) .

The best ''side scrolling'' 3D Mario (and my favorite 3D Mario overall) is  Super Mario 3D Land, which was the harbinger of 3D world. HA

The biggest surprise for me is Super Mario Party, 16m is insane. Curious to see what Superstars will sell, it's FAR superior but the timing doesnt bode well.

Superstars definitely won't outsell Super, but 10mil should be possible  especially with the good word of mouth.

The curse of sequel! Super Mario Galaxy -> Super Mario Galaxy 2... Looking forward to see how much TLOZBW2 wiil fall short of the first one, albeit I don't think it will be something shocking, might be negligible eventually... Bigger time interval between the two, unlike Galaxies.
