Here's my curious problem:
Roughly 250k PS5s are produced per week (as per last fj report, and Sony keeps promising upping production).
Week after week for over two months, you show less than 200k units sold (with one or two exceptions).
So who is wrong?

I know PS4 is old now, but Xbox Series outsold it this week in Japan.
That's crazy, guys. Xbox has long struggled in Japan, to the point of being a nonfactor. I don't think the Series will change that situation much, but I'm very sure it will do better in Japan than the Xbox One did. I mean it's sitting at 0.05 million and the Xbox One only hit 0.12 million in Japan.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 151 million (was 73, then 96, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 57 million (was 60 million, then 67 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

Do we have a link to this report? We get numbers out of the US, UK, Spain, and Japan fairly regularly, which gives us an idea on the sales for the rest of the world. It would need to be selling better in mainland Europe and rest of the world than what we are seeing. When Sony releases its shipment figures we will make any necessary adjustments. Sony is hoping to ship more PS5 consoles than PS4 did in its first full fiscal year, which we have our PS5 numbers above PS4 after the same number of weeks.

Just google for the report, it shows a 4.5M to 7.8M jump for the quarter. What you write makes sense but there is the obvious gap. It all depends on how consoles have been shipping in the past three months. There could be a full 5 week's supply on ships (by mid-June, around 10.5-10.6M units were produced if manufacturing hasn't increased yet). However, with stocks out worldwide, my guess is some flying-in has occationally been taking place to sooth people in the waiting queue.

We wait for the next fj report to see if that 4.5M to 7.8M was somehow fishy or not. Probably your early numbers were just too high and you have been making "a soft landing" in the past several weeks. Time will tell.

Thankfully, it’ll have plenty of milestones to achieve along the way such ad 90M, 95M, and 100M.

Sony losing ground in the East Asia market. China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan.

Nintendo takes the major part and Xbox the minors.

Demon Slayer maybe stops, for while, this trend.

Switch should surpass PS3 next week, based on VGChartz numbers. Should be able to surpass 88 million by the end of the month.

Switch moving up the charts. Though topping the Wii and PS1 won't happen until the holidays.

Switch will be the #7 best selling system next week and #5 at the end of the year.  It will also still have the momentum of a freight train.  (This will likely be Switch's peak year.)  This is the kind of situation a system needs to become the best seller of all time.

It keeps getting harder and harder for the PS4 to reach Gameboy .. 3M from now on, I don't see it .. how is this going to happen ? sell what units per week ? for how long ?
The very best possible scenario is doing 117M by end of the year with the holidays .. and even this is very debatable ..
And then what ? it will reach 10k per week by 2022 if not sooner, and then 1M for the year is far from reach .. 500k at the very best
Which will put it at 117.5M so 1.2M left hanging ..

It's certainly an interesting to watch, as the closer racers generally are. I still think PS4 will pass Gameboy, it probably won't be discontinued for a couple of years yet so even at a tortoise's pace it may still crawl passed.

If Sony predicts it will be able to ramp up production later, couldn't it be that they are starting stockpiling 50k/week in the slower Summer period for next Xmas and possible strongest weeks in the meantime? After all we know in many countries there have been, due to side effects of some vaccines that overly impressed, compared to the possible effects of the infection and their rate, public opinion and politicians, many hiccups in a vaccination race that otherwise appeared the fastest ever after the first vaccines surprised and amazed the world, so some companies could have been a little bit too optimistic about the real exit from the emergency period and they'll have to make some small adjustments and compromises before restarting full steam.
