Link to the past by a galaxy far far away. How they fit so much epic game into 1 megabyte is beyond incredible

Twilight Princess
The Wind Waker
Ocarina of Time
Breath of the Wild
A Link to the Past

Top five there.

I've only really seriously gotten into Botw so that basically makes it my choice by default, but hopefully Windwaker can convince me if I ever have time to get my hands on that game

Edit: Just because why not, I'll list my completely uneducated rankings here:

  1. Breath of the Wild
  2. The Windwaker
  3. Majora’s Mask
  4. Ocarina of Time
  5. A Link to the Past
  6. The Legend of Zelda
  7. Twilight Princess
  8. Skyward Sword
  9. Four Swords Adventures
  10. The Adventure of Link (Zelda II)

Bonus: Basically what a lot of others said. I would like to see Botw2 be basically what Majora was to Ocarina, hopefully a darker tone, better dungeons, and more focus on plot and story. One thing that I would personally like to see is at least a partially rebuilt Hyrule, as I feel like a lot of the ruins from the first game could be very interesting to explore if they were fleshed out as real cities. Also hopefully they put a proper soundtrack in, as much as I like the ambient music from the first.

Wind Waker is my favorite, but BOTW is an extremely close second.

Ok for the sake of argument, I am voting based on traditional Zelda games. BotW is a game I absolutely love, one of my favorite games of all time. However I don't feel right putting it up against the others being so different (despite being inspired by Zelda 1).

So with that, A Link to the Past is the pinnacle of the traditional formula. It set the ground work for the traditional formula far more than Ocarina ever did, and is densely packed with content. My favorite 3D Zeldas from the traditional formula would have to be Twilight Princess or Majora's Mask. Right behind them is Skyward Sword (so yes I am excited to play that again on Switch).

While I have definitely seen some people say that Ocarina of Time "set the groundwork for future Zeldas", I think this is usually in relation to the 3D games in the series and 3D gaming as a whole. Ocarina of Time's biggest innovation after all was how eloquently it transitioned Zelda into 3D gaming, and the nuances and complexities of that were carried forward in every big 3D Zelda game after. So I think it's a little weird to gatekeep Ocarina of Time based on how much it did for Zelda when the point is moreso how it basically innovated an entire dimension of games (something I don't think anyone really claims ALTTP did) and arguably perfected the formula. Ocarina of Time even made the series a lot more puzzle focused, I mean really the puzzles in A Link to the Past are super basic, and that's like an entire third of what Zelda is known for nowadays (though honestly, looking back on it, you could kind of see Link's Awakening as the title which made the "traditional" formula more puzzle oriented?).

Not saying I disagree that A Link to the Past is better, and you do also mention that it's the pinnacle of the traditional formula which is a statement about quality. But I find some of the implications of which game does more to establish Zelda a little awkward, partially given just how much new OoT did for the industry, but also because in a series of so many good games I don't think that particularly matters. Just my opinion though, I can see how if you were there at the time it would settle things a little bit more in your mind.

My ranking of the 10 home console Zeldas:
1. Breath of the Wild
2. The Wind Waker
3. Twilight Princess
4. Skyward Sword
5. Majora's Mask
6. Ocarina of Time
7. A Link to the Past
8. Four Swords Adventures
9. The Legend of Zelda
10. The Adventure of Link
I don't really like the original and Zelda II.
Four Swords Adventures is pretty great and the rest are 10/10 games imo.

Bonus: I hope for some great dungeons and a better final boss, I think if they learned from their faults with BotW they can make BotW 2 even better than BotW.

Ah yes. A poll question well suited for me. Behold the only truth;

1. Ocarina of Time
2. Breath of the Wild
3. Twilight Princess
4. Majora's Mask
5. A Link to the Past
6. Skyward Sword
7. The Wind Waker
8. The Legend of Zelda NES
9. Adventure of Link
10. Four Swords Adventures

The handheld games are nicely intermingled in these.

BONUS: I want it to be awesome. Obviously. But really, I hope Breath of the Wild 2 is to Breath of the Wild what Majora's Mask was to Ocarina of Time; a sequel that does its own thing, is unique because of that and doesn't try to one-up its predecessor because that's not going to work. I have faith in the Zelda team though, definitely do, one of the only teams in gaming I can have faith in. They will deliver; in the 35 years the franchise exists they hardly ever didn't.

A hard one but I'll go with Breath of the Wild.
OoT, TP and SS are all close contenders.

Oh, and I almost forgot, Link's Awakening is a cute little game, but it's not even in the running.

This week's poll asks you what your favorite The Legend of Zelda game is among the games that originally released on a home console.

Well then technically I am not wrong when I say "it's not even in the running", am I?
