Wii sold just over 8m in Nov/Dec, so Switch wont even need Aprils sales to stay in the lead.

Around the Network

Switch needs roughly 1.8 milion within the next 2 month to keep the lead after Wii 2010 holiday. That will happen for sure. No way Switch will be selling less unless very very strange things happen.

Seems like Switch will have outsold Wii lifetime numbers end of december 2021, so even before its 5th birthday. Amazing.

Still not sure whether or not PS4/Xbone can crawl to PS360 numbers or if their lead will aligned evaporate as neither of the 8th gen twins seems to be showing strong post-replacement legs.

The gap will probably be around 1 million, but the actual winner is still uncertain.

The DS and Switch battle is just insanity! The closeness of that fight is so fun to watch!

Around the Network

End of 2008 NDS will be at 93.8 million. So seems like the lead then will be around 10-11 million. Even though Switch selling numbers, the biggest lead then to date for NDS vs NSW.

That Switch has not just kept pace but actually GAINED on DS in the last 12 months, when aligned with the latter's insane boom years, is just bonkers.

One thing, which is pretty amazing, which i just really became aware of right now:

Switch Month 32: 40,736,064 (October 2019)
Switch Month 48: 80,370,221 (February 2021)

I know it includes 2 holiday seasons, but selling 40 million units in only 16 month, which is only half of the time as for the first 40 million units, is still quite remarkable.

With a 14.4 million lead, about the only thing that can prevent the Switch from overhauling PS4 lifetime now is Nintendo being morons and replacing it prematurely.

Switch vs 3DS and Wii U Sales Comparison - February 2021

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide Nintendo Switch sales with the combined Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Wii U sales.

Switch Vs. 3DS and Wii U Global:

Gap change in latest month: 742,422 - Switch

Gap change over last 12 months: 17,094,482 - Switch

Total Lead: 17,240,140 - Switch

Switch Total Sales: 80,370,221

3DS and Wii U Total Sales: 63,130,081

February 2021 is the 48th month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for. During the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the Switch by 742,422 units when compared to the combined sales of the 3DS and Wii U during the same timeframe. In the last 12 months, the gap has grown in favor of the Switch by 17.09 million units. The Switch leads by 17.24 million units.

The 3DS launched in February 2011 (however, 3DS sales have been aligned to March 2011, since it only launched at the end of February in Japan), the Wii U launched in November 2012, and the Nintendo Switch launched worldwide in March 2017. The holiday periods between the Switch and 3DS lineup, however, the Wii U holiday is offset from the Switch.

The 48th month for the Nintendo Switch is February 2021, for the Nintendo 3DS it is February 2015 and for the Wii U it is August 2016. The Switch has sold 80.37 million units, while the 3DS and Wii U have sold 63.13 million units during the same timeframe. The 3DS and Wii U did not reach current Switch sales until month 74.

The 3DS and Wii U have sold 89.48 million units lifetime. The Switch is 9.11 million units behind the 3DS and Wii U.

The gap is closing fast now as 3DS levels off and Wii U is a non-factor while the Switch continues to climb like a rocket.
