I watched Trainwreck: Woodstock '99 last night. 3 part documentary.
https://www.netflix.com/ca/title/81280924

How capitalism destroys everything, but also the zeitgeist was completely wrong for another Woodstock. Not that anyone learned from these kind of trainwrecks, Burning man 2023 comes to mind. The huge crowds reacting to heavy metal are incredible though. Human flocking behavior directed by music.

Handmaid's tale had a good last season. We most enjoyed spotting all the familiar filming locations in the towns nearby us, in particular Hamilton and Cambridge portraying Boston.

Good sequel/parallel to Children of Men. (Although the latter I rate in my top 10)

Might watch Angel Cop and Bubblegum Crisis later.

Where are you watching GitS? It's been years since I watched it now.

If you don't have access to a streaming service, it's very cheap to buy at the moment.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Children of Men is also one of my favourites.

And I lived in Toronto for a time (it's where my father currently lives and my father in law lived when he was younger). I recognize a lot of the Southern Ontario locations. So much so that I'm half expecting a B-film twist: "They were in Canada the whole time!"

The latest south park episode.....Holy shit....

I think it would be interesting to talk about the direction of South Park this season. I've been a fan of the show since the 1990s. The humour is actually about the same as it's been for about 12-15 years, but they absolutely nailed the topics this time around; I've not seen so many people talking about South Park since Streaming Wars, or maybe even their post-covid special. I think many people are happy they decoupled Trump and Mr. Garrison, and instead merged Trump and Saddam (the reveal at the season's end could be that Trump is Saddam).

In real life there's no difference between Trump and Saddam.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

GitS is still one of my all time favorite franchises. I hope the upcoming reboot can bring it back to form.

Same. GiTS is amazing and one of my faves. Arise and 2045 didn't do it for me and less said about the 2017 movie the better. The Ghost in the Shell 2026 looks promising and using the manga art will be a first. I doubt anything can top the 1995 movie for me tho and always loved Stand Alone Complex. I even like the PS1 and PS2 games. Not played the PSP one or that online FPS.

Okay, thanks! I used 9anime before, but the VPN costs more on its own than an actual streaming service at this point.

Well, it took 4 tries, but we finally have a good Fantastic Four movie. I saw First Steps on Friday, came out enjoying it. It was refreshing to finally see some chemistry between Marvel’s first family and I was shocked by how much I ended up liking Silver Surfer, gender swap and all (yes, I know there was a female Surfer in the comics, but it wasn’t the Surfer). I don’t like changing characters for the sake of it, but Surfer being a chick actually felt organic to the story and worked surprisingly well and Julia Garner was great as Shalla-Ball. She also has a scene with Johnny that really packs an emotional punch and sets the stage for the rest of the movie. And Galactus looked amazing in all his flesh-and-blood glory, even moreso in IMAX. Finally the Galactus we deserve even if he does take a backseat to Surfer, who does the bulk of the villain work. They also nicely tied Vanessa Kirby (who’s perfectly cast as Sue Storm)’s real life pregnancy to the meat of the story, it made it feel very high-stakes. Kinda gave me early Raimi Spider-Man vibes with the weigh of the world on their shoulders.
