Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo quarterly sales figures update, (To 31st Dec 2020) Switch 79.87m

Great results once again and they even managed to ship a bit more than I had expected (predicted 79.5 hardware). 3D All-Stars also really had better legs than I thought, it might actually make it to 10 mil in its unfortunately final quarter.

One very noteworty detail: Pikmin 3 Deluxe is already the best selling Pikmin game ever at 1.94 mil!
(Vgchartz had the original Pikmin as the highest at 1.6 mil)

Anyone calculate the profit yet? How does it compare to last year and other companies?

376,705 million yen of profit, that's around 3.6 billions $ in profit for the 3 quarters (March-December 2020)

Last year was 1.87 billion $ of profit.

one quarter, it's second year highest profit, without the last quarter

Top 5 highest operating profits recorded by any console manufacturer (company or console division in the case of mega corporations) until now:

Nintendo, FY ending March 2009: 555.26 Bn yen
Nintendo, FY ending March 2021: 521.11 Bn yen (miss the 4th quarter which will be profitable for sure even if less so than Q3)
Nintendo, FY ending March 2008: 487.22 Bn yen
Nintendo, FY ending March 2010: 356.57 Bn yen
Nintendo, FY ending March 2020: 352.37 Bn yen

For comparison with the latest MS results regarding Xbox branch:

- Xbox Games & Services: 5 billion $ in revenue, profit not shared - for their last quarter only (?)

- Nintendo: 9.40 billion $ in revenue, for 3.6 billion $ of profit - over 3 quarters

EDIT: Ok I think my numbers are wrong, don't pay attention

Very nice! Maybe Bethesda and their new 2021 company can boost the revenue to equal that, but not likely the profit.

I am sorry, I totally miswrote that, I tried to compare 2 unreleated things, don't pay attention

Note: I’m doing this on mobile and calculating in my head, so I don’t have a spreadsheet version, and there may be a few errors, but I don’t think so.

Animal Crossing and Mario Kart are literal beasts. Ring Fit Adventure has ended up being quite the sleeper hit selling more last quarter than ever before.

I really hope Nintendo brings out a more robust Switch Fit sequel that contains more entertaining side-features like Wii Fit did. I want to see more motion gaming on the Switch in 2021, much more.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

11.57M in Q3? Very nice.

Software sales are ridiculous. Mario Kart 8 will actually beat Mario Kart Wii, Animal Crossing at 31M in under a year, Breath of the Wild doesn’t seem to stop ever, Sword and Shield will become the biggest Pokemon games since Gen 1 and four more games knocking on the door of the 10+ Million Club.

Also, that 74 number will be very conservative, they just know from reports that 74M definitely sold for a fact, while they have inconclusive information about the rest. They don’t have almost 6M Switches on shelves right now, because we know there’s global stock issues. It will also be proven when next quarter’s shipment number doesn’t tank (which it would if they overshipped this much).

80m essentially, that means Switch passes both the PSP and GBA this quarter and likely already has in January, as for the sell through part they said it has surpassed 74m which means it's any number above that and what they shipped not it's only sold 74m with 6m on shelves they often give conservative estimates for sell through like they do for their forecasts which they often revise remember their last estimate was 63m when they shipped 68m.

The are now two 30m sellers, six 20m sellers and nine 10m sellers with NSMB and LM3 very much reaching the latter mark in January to take the tally up to eleven when the FY report arrives.

Well, I'll take your guys' word for it. I was just alarmed is all. I mean, I'm running a hardware comparison thread and anytime some major adjustments are made, I have to go in and change them. I'm going to have to do it anyways, but I would much rather adjust them up than adjust them down.
