Forums - Sales Discussion - Pixel Counting Nintendo Charts

I'm sure most of you have seen Nintendo's Fiscal Year Ended March 2020 pdf, and I'm sure you saw this chart:

What I would like to know is if anyone has pixel counted this chart to get accurate values for Europe and North America. I myself have a rough estimate for the sales to pixel ratio, which is 13k per pixel, but I want others' input.

Hi @PDiddy I did some fun super zoom and created vector lines to measure each bar, There seems to be a 0.95% average margin of error between my totals and the totals on the image (but this can be simply because of the rounding of the numbers). It really doesn't seem too different, but these are the values that I get:

Not sure if this was what you are looking for, but it was fun doing it. Hopefully we get similar values

My values are a little higher. What I did was use MC numbers from 2018 (the tracker Nintendo uses for JPN data), and simply ultra zoomed in in paint to count the pixels. After doing this, I calculated that each pixel is about 13,000 units.

Here are my values for CY 2019 for NA and EU:

Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4
EU 780,000 676,000 806,000 2,938,000
NA 1,222,000 897,000 1,027,000 4,160,000

Awesome, we have very similar values, here is the comparison:

North AmericaQ1Q2Q3Q42019
Dmillos1,202,830878,6531,016,6014,097,8247,195,908

Diff19,17018,34710,39962,176110,092

Obviously there are too many items that cause some margin of error, but I think that in general this is pretty close.

Now the question is how much does this compare to the numbers on VGChartz. It seems that USA is at 6,479,134 for 2019, that is pretty different from our pixel analysis.

For Japan I have 4,392,880 while VGChartz is at 4,461,503 which is extremely close.

Maybe the difference is VGChartz only has USA while Nintendo counts USA+Mexico+Canada and that is why is so much less here.

Yeah, that's why. Europe was the one I was most curious about since we have such little data from the region as a whole. NA was interesting; it seems like it is mainly USA and Canada making up the total. I also wanted Europe so I could do a more apples to apples comparison for my shipments prediction. It seems like UK makes up 18% of the EU total comparing yearly totals. Applying that same figure to the known UK figures gives us around 7.93 million for EU sell-thru.

I also did the pixel counting on the bar chart in the 6 months ending September 2020 Earnings Release. https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2020/201105_5e.pdf
The figures I got for 2020 CYQ2 were 4.54 million and for CYQ3 4.235 million.

This is the most nerd-tastic thread I've ever seen on VGChartz and I love it!

Standard nerds, the lot of you!
